No shower, wet bed, no refund
I did not expect luxury, but I certainly expected, at the very least, a dry bed and the possibility of taking a shower.
The duvet was soaking wet and had made the bed wet. The bedsheet had dark stains that looked very much like mould. The room is in a basement, is extremely damp and has no windows. The only way to let fresh air in is through the door, which has no mosquito/insect screen. There is almost no natural light — in the evening, sunlight reached only about 20 cm into the room. The ventilation was very noisy, and the ceiling is extremely low in places without any warnings; I hit my head badly.
Most importantly, there was no hot water in the bathroom, so I could not even take a shower. I spent about 5.5 hours at the property trying to get these basic problems resolved. The host came several times but could not fix the water and eventually said it would have to wait until the next day.
When I asked how I was supposed to shower, instead of offering a solution, the host became sarcastic, asking whether I expected him to heat water in a kettle and “serve me all night.”
I said I could not stay under these conditions and asked for my money back. The host agreed to refund me in front of a witness, told me where to leave the key and instructed me to request the refund through Booking.com. I followed his instructions and left that same evening without staying overnight. He later refused the refund, which remains unresolved despite my repeated attempts to resolve the matter through Booking.com.
I chose this property because of its high rating, and I do not doubt that other guests may have had good stays here. But the real test of accommodation is what happens when something goes wrong. In my case, I received no effective solution, sarcasm instead of assistance, and a promised refund that was subsequently refused.
