the whole experience was very unpleasant and frustrating - 7 people waiting outside for 2 hours.
The house itself was fine and met our expectations. Unfortunately, the unfriendly and inflexible way we were treated upon arrival overshadowed everything else and left us feeling unwelcome throughout our stay.
We had a very disappointing experience with this property.
We booked through Booking.com and the full amount for our stay was charged immediately. However, when the seven of us arrived at the property, the entry code did not work and we were left waiting outside.
When we contacted the property, we were told that we would not receive access to the house until we paid an additional mandatory fee related to potential damage. This extra charge had not been clearly disclosed to us when making the reservation.
The woman we spoke to on behalf of the property was extremely unhelpful and uncompromising. Despite the accommodation already being fully paid for, she refused to provide the access code until the additional payment had been made.
Ironically, she did give us the Wi-Fi password, and fortunately the signal reached outside the house, so while standing outside with our luggage we were able to connect, complete the required procedure and pay the additional amount. Only then were we given access to the property.
I find this way of treating guests unacceptable. If an additional damage protection fee is mandatory, it should be clearly stated as part of the total cost before the booking is made — not presented as a condition for entering an already fully paid property when seven guests are standing at the door.
Hospitality should be about welcoming guests, not holding access to a fully paid accommodation hostage until an undisclosed additional charge is paid.
The house itself is not the reason for this negative review. The problem was the way the booking, additional charges and our arrival were handled.
