My husband and I love staying in “inns with a history”—we are very familiar with very old buildings!

The breakfast was excellent—all of the breakfast food I look for.

For me, the water temperature setting in the shower needed to be more responsive. The space itself is small, and I could not get the hot water temperature reduced to a slightly cooler level quickly enough.

Adorable quaint inn with friendly staff, would stay here again in a heartbeat! A hidden gem

Staff was all so friendly and inviting. Adorable room and location, fair price point compared to other hotels. Room was immaculate.

We enjoy visiting at the Griswold Inn, but for this visit the room noise from other rooms was loud.

Frustrating stay due to inflexible early check-in policy.

Lunch was tasty and bar/restaurant area was nice for gathering. Hotel is quaint, historic and great location. Rooms were clean.

The front desk & manager were extremely inflexible about an early check in. We were a party of 8 (3 rooms for family & 1 for bride & groom). They insisted that none of the rooms were ready even a half hour before their 2:00 check in(repeating over and over again that 2:00 is their "Policy") So rather than accommodate us with even just 1 room so we could dress, apply makeup & do our hair for our 2:00 wedding, they allowed us to put our belongings in their tiny lobby closet & offered the ladies room in the restaurant for us to get ready. So we traipsed through the bar & across the restaurant with hanging clothes, makeup bags & curling iron and got ready in the bathroom along with any dining guests who needed the bathroom. Then miraculously at 1:50. now that we are all dressed & ready to go to the wedding all the rooms were ready!!! So now we are gathering all our things, dragging it all up the stairs while in our heels and dress clothes so we can drop it all in room & get out to the wedding on time! Plus now all the other hotel guests that were arriving and/or waiting for the 2:00 check in were in line behind us waiting for their rooms. It was all very frustrating. I have traveled all over the world and through out the US and have "never" had a hotel unwilling to allow an early check in as soon as a room was available. Most even take our phone number so we can go site see or eat and they will call us when a room becomes available. We even stayed at the Griswold to eat and drink in their restaurant, hoping they'd come through with a room and we'd be right there but they didn't. As far as the rooms go, the mattresses were very soft and it was very noisy in the morning. You can hear people showering, using bathroom, even talking in other rooms. Not even a bottle of water in room.

Great historic Steamship town, historically significant Inn. Old building- not well insulated- comfy beds, though. STAIR

Very cool OLD historic buildings. Friendly staff. Rooms were appointed nicely. Beds were comfortable.

Music was loud, we moved to a building across the street because first room was above parking lot AND exit driveway (we had asked and we’re assured we’d have a quiet location). We had to PAY for upgrade and if possible, room location was louder as it was closer to the pub and pub door was open and music was loud (thankfully only til 11pm).

Delightful stay at a charming Inn in an excellent location.

Inn is charming. Restaurant excellent food. Staff helpful. room lovely.

Had to request room being made up. Did leave towels outside room so there were fresh ones.

I was looking forward to a scrumptious breakfast! Disappointed in the selection of food.

Would of been nice to have another choice of muffin or pastry and a hot egg dish. Way too many carbs, sugar sugar sugar!!!!.😵‍💫

I mean the room looked like from museum except for it was my room. The hotel is since 1776. I was super happy I chose it. One of a life time experience for me!

Wonderful inn, lovely historic town.

Gorgeous historic property! Staff was top notch, loved seeing all the historic artifacts throughout the inn.

Our bed was very uncomfortable, but when I mentioned it to the front desk, they were very gracious and even discounted my bill for the inconvenience. Class act all the way.

The decor, location, and staff were excellent

The price was too high for what was offered. Not enough amen!items(no microwave, mini fridge, tv), thin walls where you could hear through. Loud music and rowdy crowd late into the night disturbed sleeping

A nice place spoilt by the rude manager.

Most of the staff were very nice. Fun live music. Okay food.

We were very poorly treated by the manager. He was invasive, inconsiderate and judgmental. His lack of discretion embarrass my wife and I in the lobby in front of other guests and his staff. If you aren't his ideal type of guest then you had best avoid him and maybe this place altogether.

Worth the stay for the location and helpful staff.

Great staff, good breakfast, great location, charming historic building.

The room was very, very small, you had to get into bed sideways by sliding along the wall. The dinner at the hotel restaurant was mediocre and epenwsive. for that price one expects better, or should.

Superb

The location was perfectly situated in the town and we were able to walk to all the shops and restaurants. We had dinner at the Griswold Inn’s Wine Bar and the food was delicious and the service was great! After dinner, we stopped by the Inn’s Tap Room to listen to some live music which was a lot of fun! I would highly recommend staying at the Griswold Inn

Step back in time and enjoy a beautiful charming town

Town of Essex is a Hallmark movie set! Absolutely charming. The Griswold inn is very charming!

No bottled water to be found anywhere. The little town doesn’t have a place either to buy water. So definitely bring water with you.
