Basic, tired and worn - better off in a tent!

Location and host response

Unfortunately, we weren’t overly impressed with this riverside cabin. It is very basic, tired, worn and in need of some TLC and general improvements to make it more comfortable and welcoming. The most frustrating issue was finding out after booking that we would have to pay extra for electricity. Although I later noticed this was mentioned in the “important details”, I feel something this significant should be clearly stated in the main property description before guests book. We were also advised after booking that the electricity supply could not be overloaded. At this time of year, heating is essential, as is being able to have showers, but we constantly had to be conscious of what we were using. We arrived late to a cold, damp-feeling cabin and couldn’t comfortably leave the heating on while we were out, knowing it would use up electricity. This really isn’t what you want from a relaxing mini break. The sleeping arrangements also need attention. The bed in the front bedroom was very uncomfortable, with the springs feeling through the mattress, while the double bed in the middle bedroom squeaked badly every time you moved during the night. The infrared heating panels are fitted to the ceiling in most rooms , which doesn’t seem particularly effective when the heat rises. There is also nowhere practical to dry towels or hang wet coats, which is far from ideal. The bathroom was very mouldy and in need of a thorough clean. Small but important additions, such as a toilet brush and a bathroom bin, would also make a difference. The kitchen had most of the basic equipment needed for a short stay, but unfortunately, the frying pans were dirty when we arrived and the sharp knives were blunt. Overall, I wouldn’t rate this property highly in its current condition. Luckily, we were only staying for two nights to walk the mountains, but I would have been very disappointed if we had booked a longer stay.

Overall good value

The site itself is excellent having stayed in Glan Gwna several times before. The property has everything that we needed for our stay.

Little things could be improved to make it slightly more appealing. Bathroom could be cleaner and toilet seat replaced. The bed in the main front bedroom was a little creaky and not the comfiest. The gate into the property needs fixing as it’s a faff to lock especially when you have a dog that needs securing. For the overall time spent in there it was ok value for money.

The property was well looked after and very clean. The room my husband and I slept in was the small double the bed was very comfortable.

My friend stayed in the large double but found the bed quite soft and sank in the middle maybe get a mattress topper to firm it up a bit.
