We wanted something close to Bar Harbor but not in the Harbor. The VRBO was close to everything and the host provided anything we would need. We wanted for nothing!

This was our first time to Acadia and we enjoyed every minute of it. From our wonderful stay in this apartment to the amazing host who thought of everything we would need; this truly felt like home away from home. The blueberry pie waiting for us when we arrived was a welcome treat and absolutely delicious. James also provided some great recommendations for food and activities that were perfect for our family. Thank you, James, for being a wonderful host!

We thought this property was a great place for our family of four. The king bed and separate room with two single beds was exactly what we were looking for. Having never been to this area of Maine, I was a bit uncertain with the location, but we found it to be just fine. It was about a 25 minute drive to Bar Harbor / ANP and we felt it was worth it for the lodging savings. The place had a lot of extras in the kitchen which was much appreciated. The laundry is in the garage below the unit and takes quarters. James was kind enough to supply some quarters for us to use. Communicating with James was very good. He was extremely responsive and replied to our questions probably quicker than any other host. All in all, I would not hesitate to recommend this property to anyone looking for a great place to stay near Acadia National Park.

James was the most welcoming and accommodating host. The property was spotless and ready to accommodate guests after strenuous days on the hiking trail. Highly recommend! James went out of his way to help us in many ways - jumping our dead car battery and suggestions for trails and exploration!!

We had a great stay at the Hidden Gem. The apartment was very clean, spacious and great for families. James, was a wonderful host and easy to get in touch with. We were greeted with freshly baked cookies which were delicious. The apartment is on a quiet street but near to grocery store and a Wal-Mart and about 25 minutes from downtown Bar Harbor and Acadia Park. We would definitely recommend the Hidden Gem to friends and family!

The apartment is about a short drive away to Acadia National Park. The apartment is clean and well-maintained. The kitchen has pots and pans so that you can make your own Maine lobsters. I bought live lobster from grocery stores and gas stations (they sell live lobster everywhere) to avoid overpaying at restaurants :).

One of the nicest VRBOs we have stayed at. We liked not being in Bar Harbor but within a short drive of Acadia. James is awesome. The blueberry pie and cheesecake were delicious and much appreciated. We would definitely stay here again.

Sweet, super clean and lovely apartment for up to four. Modern space over a 2-car garage, with fully equipped kichen with new appliances and granite countertops. Quiet, somewhat rural neighborhood.James is delight, and provides many necessities not found in other short-term rentals. We would definitely stay here again if we return to the area! Thank you!

Everything about the property was excellent- its location, the host, cleanliness and all the amenities it offered. Would highly recommend staying here to anyone who is looking to come to northern Maine.

James's property is extremely comfortable and quiet. We appreciated being away from the Bar Harbor crowds. The kitchen and bathroom are well stocked. He has it tasteful decorated in a nautical theme. He is a very pleasant man, who is extremely easy to communicate with and offers suggestions of local restaurants and sights. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Ellsworth and the easy access to Acadia National Park. Highly recommend!!

This was the most comfortable and beautiful “home away” for our exploration of Acadia National Park! James was an awesome host, greeting us on arrival to show us the apartment and make sure we had everything we needed. He thought of EVERYTHING, including chilled bottles of water and granola bars for our hikes. Everything we could have possibly needed was at our fingertips, including James who was just a text away for any questions. Definitely a 5-star!!! We’d give 10 if we could!

This was the perfect location for everything we wanted to do in the area. It’s a very easy drive to Mount Desert Island. James is a great host and have is some helpful hints and ideas for places to visit that we hadn’t thought of. AND he left is the most tasty homemade wild blueberry pie.

Beautiful place nearly flawless, all decorated wonderfully and has everything you need. Quite spacious and loved the king bed and the two full beds, fully equipped kitchen and open space living room. James is very friendly and communicative. The place is only 20-30 min drive from Acadia, and has many stores nearby. The heater was useful as the weather got chilly.

Can't speak highly enough of the host and property. Was centrally located allowing us to explore and just far enough from Acadia crowds. Host was great in communicating with us and offered some great suggestions.

The location was perfect with ease of getting to bar harbor and Acadia national park. It was only 20 minutes or so to both but far away enough fir peace and quiet. The property was perfect. All the comforts of home. A fully equipped and stocked kitchen. The added bonus of air conditioning which was refreshing after a day out on the trails and mountains! There was a propane run fire pit which was great to sit by at the end of day. We had access to a garage which was great to store our bikes. Lamoine beach was close by to grab a few sunsets and collect shells. All of this was amazing but by far superior to that was our host James. He was communicative and kind. He left us a home made blueberry pie, sourdough bread, garden veggies and herbs. We had one day of rain and James texted ideas of how to spend our day. Which we took and it was so fun. He truly cares about his guests and it shows. He is a SUPER host!

We have a friend working in Acadia we were visiting and this place was perfect for our needs! Close to the park, clean, and James was fabulous to work with. We would absolutely stay here again!

This rental was in a great, quiet location, and a short, convenient drive to Acadia, as well as to restaurants and shopping. Tons of kitchen staples were already in the home, & the bathroom medicine cabinet was stocked with aspirin and first aid supplies. Very safe as well-multiple working smoke and CO detectors were present, which isn’t always the norm.

This was our second time staying at James' place. We were not able to come during COVID (or we would have!). It was like no time had passed- the apartment continued to be in immaculate condition, James was ever attentive, and the kids felt at home. Some highlights: new water pump for air conditioning features- allowed for quick cool downs on warm nights and heat on a cold night! New Fire Pit and grill for s'mores and grilling. Kitchen is still was well supplied, never needed anything in terms of equipment/ material. What it means to rent from James: constant and fast email contact. Special treats like blueberry pie, snacks for the kids, and little treats like cookies dropped by. Easy to text and lightening fast response. I've traveled the US with the kids and the world for my job, and this property is one of the best around and James is customer focused. In fact, James remembered us from our last visit and spoiled the kids even more. Why here and not right on Mount Desert Island- two things. One, MDI is not that far away and traffic has its peak times, but if you live in a city (like us) it is nothing like rush hour bumper to bumper. That meant the Acadia visitor's center was 25 minutes away at the longest. And you will pay less than renting on the island with amenities like grocery stores close by. So from a value standpoint- your money goes farther here (and why we could stay 10 days versus just 5). Plus, there is so much more than Bar Harbor---- easy access to Northeast Harbor (a kid favorite), Blue Hill (which now has a Blaze also) and the Saturday Farmer's Market, and heading to schoonic and Winter Harbor (the Pickled Wrinkle is a long time family fav). Favorites in Ellsworth itself is Flex It Bakery for lunch and Provender for dinner (make reservations for that). Lamoine state park is right there also. This place is truly a gem and James is a pro. Save money, stay here, stay longer and enjoy all that Downeast has to offer.

This is a great little place to stay. It was very clean, very cool (good A/C), and lots of towels available. The location is a short driving distance to Bar Harbor and Acadia. We spent our day there but enjoyed having dinner locally (in Ellsworth) where it wasn’t so crowded. James was a great host. Check in and check out was very easy.

Very close to conveniences such as shopping, groceries, gas stations, etc. Short drive to Acadia NP just off main road to park. Nice accommodation with all the conveniences of home.

Great place to have stayed. Close to Acadia, NP and other parks. Host was very informative and helpful with suggestions for local places to eat. House was spotless and well stocked with kitchen items.
