Where do you start?? When we arrived the entire house was shut down - electricity shut off, house in darkness, and quite smelly. As all the shuttering is electric, we had to use a torch to try and find the fuse box (don't bother). When the young hand was sent to turn the electricity on, lo and behold, there was the entire house laundry hanging off the furniture drying inside (seriously) and an absolute ton of garden furniture taking up the living room, as if it were being warehoused. None of the beds had been made, not one. The smell was damp and rank throughout the house, as if the place had been locked up and not aired for weeks. It was only a matter of our own forward thinking that we brought our own 5cm down bed topper, duvet, sheets and pillow cases - along with our own towels and kit, as there are no mattress protectors, no pillow protectors, or proper bed linens other than old blankets and towelling pillows that went out in and around the time the place was built - around 1972 at a guess. It was colder and more inclement than usual - so you either freeze to death with the windows open or you bare the odours of damp. The satellite tv didn't work, the stereo is buggered, and aside from some newly installed double glazed windows, a reasonably new fridge-freezer and Nespresso machine - everything else was in a time warp. There's no internet/wi-fi other than a pay-per-day arrangement - €10.00 PER DAY. Think on this: the cost of a decent monthly internet connection is €30 - about a €1.00 per day. For our 4 day stay, they demanded €40.00. WTF??? Lastly, if you are expecting a nice bottle of Rioja as a bienvenue - forget it. We got a small plastic bag with a kitchen sponge, 2 bin liners and a cleaning cloth inside. The plastic bag did have the word 'Welcome' printed on it, for some reason.
