The apartment cancelled on me while I was on the plane to Edinburgh!

I liked the pictures when booking the apartment, and the location seemed ideal for the Royal Mile.

After flying all night, I received a message during my fight layover in London that the apartment was being cancelled due to "flooding." I had booked the apartment months in advance for its location, and I landed in Edinburgh on Saturday night with no place to stay for seven nights. There were very few apartments or hotel rooms left in or near the Royal Mile or New Town, and none that could match the price I had reserved many months earlier. I spoke with a representative of the management company, who said that they could not offer me any assistance, because all of their properties were booked. They pointed me to Booking.com, which only offered to find me similarly priced apartments that were two miles away or more from the Royal Mile. The Booking.com operator seemed frustrated and impatient that I was unwilling to accept this new arrangement. (I was traveling with three other couples, and we purposely had booked apartments near each other on the Royal Mile.) Due to the lack of room availability, I ended up booking a hotel on my own for Saturday-Monday on the Royal Mile, and then switched mid-week to a second hotel from Tuesday-Friday at the far edge of New Town. I paid $1,200 more than budgeted due to the short notice bookings, which was stressful. I understand that emergencies happen, but the unwillingness by Joivy or Booking.com to assist me with a last-minute cancellation was troubling. I definitely felt abandoned by both companies. (Booking.com did send me a notice that they would reimburse me 154 GBP in credits for my out-of-pocket expenses if I re-booked through Booking.com. However, I received that information after I had already booked and paid for another hotel outside of the Booking.com system. In any case, the 154 GBP would not have covered the out-of-pocket costs of a last-minute cancellation in Edinburgh!)
