Large, well manicured property, fruit trees for picking, pool and the location is perfect for those who enjoy North Maui, Road to Hana, and basically any other area of interest on the island.

We had a wonderful stay. We enjoyed the lovely large pool for short laps, picked oranges for our morning juice, played hard and slept well. We brought a croquet set and played killer matches through the lawn and orchard. It's a good location for exploring different parts of the island, especially if you get on the road early. Our penultimate adventure was kayaking in the early morning to see the whales. Claudia is a fabulous host and her suggestions re: food truck delivery and water sports companies were excellent. Do be prepared for an early morning competition between roosters.

My wife and I rented this house to avoid the hotel crowds. It was our honeymoon trip and we didn’t feel like sharing the pool, bar, etc. with everyone else. This was a perfect spot for privacy. Our own pool, our own orchard, our own slice of paradise. The host lives close so the one time I needed to contact them, they were the within minutes. Great spot…my wife is already talking about a return trip.

We booked a stay at this ideal property as part of a retirement trip for my parents and could not have asked for a more ideal booking or better hosts. The property is located right outside of quaint Haiku and within a short drive to the town of Paia and Mama's Fish House. The owners, Claudia and Kevin, also included every item you would ever dream of needing for a comfortable stay and the multi-acre, private property has numerous fruit trees fresh for the picking. Its truly a tropical paradise and it felt like having a home in Maui for our visit! We will be sure to book again when returning to Island.

We enjoyed every second of our time at Claudia’s property. The house was charming, clean and well stocked - we lacked nothing. The pool was a daily delight and the fruit trees provided delicious fresh juice every day. We cannot wait to return as soon as we can.

My family and I had an amazing trip to Maui. This was probably one of the most relaxing vacations we have ever had and we can't wait to go back! We will never stay at a hotel or resort again. Claudia went out of her way in providing helpful information on what to do, see, local restaurants to try, and which beaches to visit and which to avoid (windy or overcrowded). The recommendations we tried turned out to be great. Upon our entering the house, we knew we had chosen well. You know that feeling of ‘will it be as good as it looked on the website?’ …… let that feeling go – because this house is nicer! The home is perfectly placed in the middle of several acres of lush green grass, native trees and plants, and the Maui island air. It was quiet and offered us a much-needed rest. Although we spent a week in the home, we could have easily stayed for a month as it has all the amenities on might need, and was clean and comfortable. Wonderful Location. Spotless everything. Comfortable everything. Beautifully designed house with open-truss Hawaiian construction, warm wood floors, tastefully decorated, and soothing cross breezes galore. Swaying palm trees and peaceful sounds of bamboo creaking. Ocean views from your lanai. The view from the lanai is incredible, and calls you to sit and enjoy your breakfast, a snack, dinner, or a quiet drink or two. A very nice feature of the house and property that you are completely removed from any neighbors – the result of a multi-acre property. Lastly, I need to say Amazing Hosts! Claudia and Kevin truly epitomize the spirit of Aloha. Most people know that Aloha is used as a greeting. That would lead you to think of it in too simple of terms – as in ‘hello’. What most do not know, and what we learned after meeting and getting to know Claudia and Kevin is the wonderful truth and feeling of what Aloha is (love, affection, peace, compassion and mercy, that is commonly used as a simple greeting but has a deeper cultural and spiritual significance to native Hawaiians, for whom the term is used to define a force that holds together existence). It is beyond something said – is something to be experienced, and that we did. Thank you Claudia and Kevin. This will be carried with my family and I and will remembered more than anything we saw while on the magical island of Maui.

Our family (including two kids under 10) thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this beautiful home. It's hard to list all the highlights as there were so many! The setting was beautiful and private. The house was well appointed throughout. We appreciated how well stocked the kitchen was to feel like home and have everything we needed to prepare meals. Our kids loved the beach gear/sand toys and we used them daily. The private pool was lovely. We picked oranges and grapefruit from the trees near the house and enjoyed fresh squeezed juice daily (what a treat!). Claudia was an exceptional host who truly thought of everything to make our stay wonderful. We have rented homes around the world and this was one of our favorites.

We loved the beaches, boat outings and restaurants we visited during our stay, but the house and hospitality of the owners made our vacation feel perfect. We spent most of our time lounging around the property, reading, swimming, drinking and having great conversations with friends and family, playing music, and just staring at the ocean. Some of our favorite things: Claudia and Kevin, the roosters, gecko noises, the cows, the bamboo, the palm trees, eating freshly-picked papayas every day, all the other veggies, fruits and herbs from the yard, and the trade winds blowing through the house. We never needed AC. The pillows were so amazing that I plan to ask where they bought them. I’ve rented houses all over the place and this is the first one that felt like home, in large part because of the owners and how they are connected to the aloha spirit and the land. Any need/concern we had got immediate attention from the owners who are just beautiful people who give the property its amazing feel. Claudia even offered to store my daughter’s bike in her garage in case it still was the right size for her the next time we come back. I agree with the reviewers who say the pictures don’t truly capture how nice the house is. The surrounding area is wonderful as well. We loved the food trucks in the Haiku market area, the towns of Paia and Makawao, the turtles invading the nearby beach every evening, and the cute Japanese restaurant in Haiku. We also had a wonderful time outrigger canoeing at Claudia’s suggestion. I would jump at booking this place if it happens to be available on the dates you want. Really. You’ll fall in love with the whole experience and want to return.

Our family of 5 had a wonderful stay. The house is beautifully decorated and meticulously maintained. The photos do not do it justice. The grounds are extensive and afford complete privacy with plenty of fruit trees and views of both the ocean and Haleakala. The pool is lovely and with its motorized cover, stays pleasantly warm. Paia is a short <10min drive away. Claudia and Kevin could not be more gracious hosts. We would love to stay here again!

Hale Mauka Makai is like something out of a dream, it is simply superb! Everything from the outdoor grounds to all the fine details on the inside. You immediately feel relaxed and at home. The entire house was spotless, beds were comfortable, bathrooms were lovely, kitchen had everything to prepare meals, pool was clean, everything worked as it should. There are numerous fruit trees and a vegetable garden that you can pick fresh fruits and veggies, such a delight! The house is away from all the hustle and bustle yet close to everything you need. Haiku is a small and quaint town with a couple of good restaurants, Paia (15 mins drive) is a lovely town with many shops and restaurants, and Makawao (15 mins drive) is a fabulous upcountry town to explore. Airport and all the major stores are only 30 minutes. The road to Hana is right there, Haleakala National Park is an hour drive, Big Beach on the south end is 50 minutes, so you really have access to all of the wonders of this beautiful island! This home gives you a taste of what it would actually feel like to be a local. Claudia welcomed our family with open arms, was so fun to talk to, and just an all around wonderful host that embodies the meaning of Aloha. The house lives up to its meaning,"the house towards the mountain and the ocean". Look no further, this home and its host will leave a warm hug around your heart that will make you want to come back time and time again.

The house is great. It is a close drive to everything you want to see on the island. Paia is a great little town with the best Hawaiian shave ice. We were picking oranges on the property and making our own juice for breakfast. Claudia and Kevin were great hosts. We would definitely come back!

A beautiful and comfortable house, sitting on gorgeous grounds with expansive views towards the ocean. The house is very clean, well apointed and decorated in a way that make you feel at home. The setting is extremely private and quiet yet the location is close to the best that Maui offers: 10 mn away from the charming town of Paia with a great food store, from Baldwin Beach for lovely walks plus a special protected areas for small children, from Ho'Okipa and Jaws for surfers and turtle watchers. Claudia and Kevin, the owners, are extremely friendly and always ready to respond promptly should any problem arise. We have been spending our last 7 winters at Hale Mauka Makai and we still can't believe our luck to have stumbled upon this gem!

Beautiful views of ocean and mountain, with cows next door. Close to beautiful beaches, good food and shopping.

We were there during the Hurricane scare. Claudia made sure we were informed and as comfortable as possible. This is truly Paradise.

We were extremely fortunate to be able to make a return trip to Hale Mauka Makai this year. This part of the island has grown to be our favorite - with the milder temperatures thanks to the trade winds, and the less touristy feel of Haiku. We love the house - it has everything we desire for a relaxing family get-away: privacy, peacefulness, and enough space for our entire family. Claudia does a great job ensuring that all the comforts of home are provided - and is always very prompt in responding to any questions. We can't wait to return for a third trip.

We have been returning to Hale Mauka Makai for the past 6 years and each time we can't believe how lucky we are to have found this gem. The house offers all the amenities possible, it is extremely well kept and well located - 10 minutes from a great food store, 10 mn from one of the best beaches in the world. The house is nicely decorated with an open plan - easy to live and feel at home. The beautiful garden is filled with palm and fruit trees. The owners, Claudia and Kevin are extremely friendly, on call if anything goes wrong or if we need any kind of help. Hale Mauka Makai has become our second home and we plan on going back there as long as we can!

My husband and I looked at several houses on Maui but Hale Mauka Makai was the only one that truly caught our eye. For 11 days it was our own private paradise on Maui. We knew we wanted to stay someplace on north Maui, away from the resort towns and this house is perfectly located. The property and pool are amazing; we often spent whole days there not wanting to leave! We had fresh grapefruit, starfruit and passionfruit every morning. The kitchen was very well equipped, use the Nespresso and the Vitamix! The bed was super comfy and we loved sleeping with the windows open to the breezes. The house is extreemly well cared for and you can tell that Claudia and Kevin want everyone who comes here to enjoy it to the fullest. The towns of Pa'ia and Haiku are very close and have great restaurants and grocery stores. The beach in Pa'ia was great - don't miss the sea turtles that come up on shore every evening before sunset. Claudia gave us great tips on day trips, restaurants and attractions. But we are most grateful for her assistance in planning our 25th anniversary vow renewal on the property. She is a gem and we will never forget her kindness. You will be forever happy and grateful that you chose Hale Mauka Makai for your Maui escape.

This is a great place to be. We stayed for a week with our two kids, and loved picking fruit, swimming in the pool, relaxing on the porch and making a great cup of coffee in the morning while we read on the couch. The home has great attention to detail and provides for most anything you would need. It is spacious, and we liked that each room had their own bathroom. You are a short drive to Paia- as well as Haiku and Makawao, so its location is very versatile. You are just minutes from great breakfast spots, 10-15 minutes to swimming beaches (even closer to Ho'olipa beach park), on the doorstep to the road to Hana, and aan ideal starting point to head up to Kula or Haleakala. We loved it! Claudia was a pleasure to deal with for the booking and other details. I wish I was still there! We will most certainly be back!

What an amazing place to celebrate our 20 year anniversary! We were so lucky to spend week at this private paradise in Maui. We can't say enough wonderful things about the house. From the views, to the trade winds, to your own private pool. Even the roosters crowing in the morning was welcomed. Claudia, the owner was such a pleasure to work with from the very beginning till our departure. Communicates well during the planning and even gives you a tour of the property and gardens when you arrive. Don't hesistste to book this property. You won't find anything like it!
