The room was quite comfortable with an extra large bed, which I had requested but was told I couldn't have but got one anyway! Considering its location near the M25, it was fairly quiet. The small ensuite was perfectly functional and the shower was easy to use. There were some very nice Crabtree and Evelyn toiletries, there was everything that you could need. Staff were generally polite and helpful, except at reception, breakfast staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was excellent, lots of choice and reasonably warm food, for a buffet type layout. There were plenty of parking spaces. We knew there was an £8 a day parking charge, but this was waived because of the steps we had to keep using. I asked for a rubber bath mat for the shower which arrived promptly. On arrival, there were only two teabags in the drinks station, plus 2 camomile ones. The next day, after our room was serviced, we still only had two camomile teabags, no ordinary ones and no milk left either, but this was quickly rectified after a visit to reception.
It's not a good hotel if you have any mobility issues. When booking the room, we requested the ground floor, as my wife is on a walking stick and finds steps difficult and painful. This request was immediately denied electronically, when we phoned to find out what the problem was we were told there's a lift, don't worry. Yes, there is a lift but you have to go down three steps to get to it. There is a small handrail which does help. Again when we checked in, we asked if we could have a ground floor room, we were told that that wasn't possible as they're booked a long time in advance. We had booked three months in advance, and didn't manage to get a ground floor room. We were allocated a room on the second floor, which we didn't think would be too bad as there was only three steps up and down to the lift, however, when we arrived at our room, we discovered that we had to climb 4- 5 steps, with no handrail available, which was very difficult. In fact, every corridor appears to have a set of steps halfway along, so half of the rooms are up steps. The cleaners were having to drag their vacuums up and down the steps and obviously they couldn't get their laundry trolleys along the whole corridor. Not long after arrival we had to leave to drive to Kent to visit family, we had a restaurant booked in Kent, so we did not have lots of spare time as we had to travel around the M25 on Friday evening. When we spoke to the receptionist about why we had been put in a room with lots of steps to tackle with no handrail, she did offer to move us but as we had unpacked and we had limited time, that wasn't an option. We didn't like the lack of a toilet brush. The drawers in the room are fake, so there's hardly any room for your stuff. A couple with a small dog in a pushchair did manage to get a ground floor room, so perhaps that's the key to a comfortable stay if you are disabled in any way?
