Cretan Renaissance

Elegant, classy, beautiful location, absolutely amazing staff and the adjoining restaurant is phenomenal. There can be no better ‘breakfast included’!

We had a little problem keeping shower from Spraying into the bathroom. A curtain might have helped.

The location which was across the lighthouse, with views of the harbour and just steps from old town. Couldn't be more central. The room had Renaissance feel, very vintage and lots of goodies like crackers, chocolates, wine was provided. There was an adorable cat that came to the room every time I opened the window which was so cute. The room had a jacuzzi which had a starry sky/lights which was a wonderful treat. The hotel provides 15% off menu for dinner and breakfast on the harbour was a splendid treat.

I'm not sure if this my judgement, but when I arrived, I got a very cold and unapproachable feeling from the receptionist and the waiters. It was almost like they looked down at me, as I was dressed down and almost like someone who can't afford to stay there. The response I was greeted with - You have a booking? And then this strange look which just made me feel extremely uncomfortable and not welcomed. However once I settled into my room, I got dressed and went out. On my way back which was around 10-1030pm, I came to check if I could have dinner, at first I was greeted nicely as the waiter didn't recognise me, and when the two other realised it was me - they said no kitchen is closed. There were still people sitting and eating, so I left and got food elsewhere. When I returned around midnight, I saw a table of two guys being served desserts! Next morning however, there was a friendly girl who was kind and chatty, and the waiters at breakfast who were different from the night before were also attentive. Later when I came to collect my bag, the same staff from the awkward arrival were there, and once again I got the 'look of disgust' - it was very unpleasant and made my staff extremely uncomfortable.

So many things to love about the Cretan Renaissance! It's location right on the Harbour in the Oldtown is perfect. It is.a beautiful little family-owned boutique hotel with only four rooms and I understand each is unique. We were in the Panorea room which was lovely. The service and staff were excellent. Harissa (sp?) In particular took great care of us, even coordinating with a local laundry company to make sure we got what we needed. Couldn't recommend this any more highly and would return in an instant.

More of a regret than a concern, but I had hoped that we coukd get one of the seaview rooms. Not their fault, by the time I tried to change my booking it had already been booked by someone else.

Everything- the room was beautiful, spacious, very well done w a cute balcony overlooking the harbor; the restaurant downstairs had excellent food & service; the location was perfect (& despite that, I was able to sleep w the balcony door open); & most of all, the staff & by that I mean everyone working there were absolutely wonderful- welcoming, friendly & accommodating; they have gone above & beyond in assisting me w all my needs- thank U!
