About this cottage rental
Located in Piedmont, this attractive cottage for $350 per night is a fantastic option for your next trip. Charming 1930's cottage on approximately 5 acres studded with redwoods. This cottage is approximately 1800 sq. ft. and has a view of Mt. Diablo. It is all 1 level with 1 step up from the dining area.The third bedroom is set up as a den with queen sofa bed, laundry area and television. There is a lovely private yard with fountain. There are 2 fireplaces, wood floors and knotty pine walls. There are 2 bathrooms, one with shower and the other with shower over tub. Additionally, there is a dining room with fireplace and view . The cottage is private and set well away from the main house. It shares use of the pool, hot tub and outdoor entertainment area(kitchen, fireplace, bath and waterfall) with the main house. You are surrounded by redwoods and oaks. The property has a 'Zen' like feeling. When you drive down the driveway you feel you are out in the country, yet you are only minutes from downtown Oakland and SFO. Wildlife abounds. Hiking, biking and horseback riding trails are nearby. Beautiful location for this cozy cottage, looking out over the hills and also beautiful grounds. Susan was a terrific host, greeted us upon arrival and showed us around. Perfect getaway; really felt like we were out in the country, but just a quick five minutes and we were in the city! We didn't use the hot tub, but hope to be back in the future to use that and the pool.

Susan and Randy have a gem of a property in the Oakland Hills. The view is spectacular and the grounds are very relaxing. The cottage is on the same grounds as the owners home but set back with privacy and own outdoor space. This is an older cottage with two bedrooms and two bathrooms ( which were very clean and updated) there is also a den with pullout sofa. We were 5 adults and were comfortable in the space. The kitchen is small but adequately stocked. The cottage has a lovely sunroom with large fireplace( wood provided) it made a nice space to gather for a meal and games. There is also a pool and hot tub- towels provided. Susan and Randy were very personable and responsive to any communication. They were very quick to remedy a plumbing issue that was unexpected on a holiday weekend. She had cheese, crackers and a bottle of wine waiting for us when we arrived late in the evening.

This was an absolutely wonderful place to stay. We rented it for the grandparents to share when they came to town for a graduation, and they all loved it. It's a very short drive to the shops and restaurants of Montclair Village, or to any of the fun neighborhoods around Oakland, but once you arrive on the property, it feels like you're a million miles from the city. It has gorgeous views of the hills and Mount Diablo, spacious accommodations, a private sitting area and garden, and use of a very nice pool and jacuzzi. The owners also live on the property in a separate house, and they were very quick to respond to questions. This will definitely be my go-to for overflow relatives in the future, and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a great place to stay in Oakland.

The cottage and grounds were very scenic and restful and I would highly recommend. Descriptions don’t do justice to the beautiful gardens, private patio and views. The cottage is true to the era and has all of the amenities one might need.

We just had an unforgettable weekend celebrating my daughters graduation. We woke up to an amazing view of the mountains. We had 6 adults who slept comfortably. We didn’t spend much time during the day at the house, but it was in a very relaxing atmosphere. We were able to get Uber/Lyft, but we would recommend giving yourself 10 minutes to lock in a ride. And then it was 22 minutes to the college.
The hosts were great communicators. The check in was easy. Loved it.

We so enjoyed our stay at the cottage. The hosts were so welcoming and it was a perfect place for us to celebrate Christmas together. The location was great, close to Oakland and Berkeley, but in the gorgeous hills with easy access to beautiful hiking trails.

We stayed the weekend before Christmas. The setting is very beautiful and the cottage has plenty of charm.
Upon our arrival, the house was very cold with the heat completely turned off. It took quite a while for the place to heat up and it was a chilly first night of our stay. The place was not completely clean (lot of popcorn in the pull out couch) and felt a bit lived in. The hot tub was a bit dirty as well and we spent about 15minutes cleaning it out before use. The
biggest issue was the plumbing. It was
consistently slow to drain and the toilets
barely flushed. We did let our hosts know
about this and they quickly attempted to rectify the situation, however the toilets were still slow after a couple uses. Overall, the place is in an amazing location and the hosts are friendly and good with communication.

This is a fantastic and unique rental. Location is amazing - set back in the woods perched above Oakland with beautiful views. Convenient to get to with near-endless hiking nearby. Cottage is located on the same grounds as the owner's house but very separated for privacy. House has 2 bedrooms, 2 living areas, a well-equipped kitchen, and 2 fireplaces. Grounds have a pool, hot tub and outdoor hangout areas. Would highly recommend.

This property was delightful. The kids played cornhole and ping-pong; in the mornings, we sat with coffee while watching the fog. We will totally come back.

The owners are on property but were respectful of our privacy and space. The pictures do not do this property justice. One family member described it as a "Zen like" retreat. We had full access to the pool, hot tub, and were even able to pet the horses on grounds. It will be hard to stay anywhere else going forward. We felt truly spoiled by this spacious accommodation. The fully equipped kitchen allowed us to cook meals when we wanted and the washer and dryer allowed for clean clothes and pool towels when needed. We can't say enough about this property.
Although not in walking distance to shops/restaurants, there is easy access to a Safeway grocery store several minutes away and some restaurant choices within a 5 minute drive. For those who love to hike, great trails abound!
Thanks again to Sue and Randy for making this a hard to forget family vacation!

What a beautiful piece of property! The house was perfect for our family's needs for our daughter's wedding at Chabot. We had six adults, and there was plenty of space for us. The proximity to Chabot was perfect. Sue was very communicative, and she was happy to help with anything we needed. The pool is heated, and the grounds are just incredible. The view out the back is exquisite. Thank you so much for everything!

Amazing location
This is a humble home that has everything we needed. The hosts were very welcoming and made everything easy for us. The property was beautiful with easy access to all the amenities. We were there in December so didn’t take advantage of the pool but we look forward to going again when the weather is warmer.

Lovely
This is a beautiful property with warm owners. We felt right at home. Our kids (5 and 14) loved everything about the space and said it was their favorite rental ever. The opportunity to make a fire was really special. The hot tub was a great bonus! We would love to stay here again in the future, maybe a summer month to use the large pool.

Lovely place in the trees with a View and Wonderful Hosts
This lovely Montclair guest house could not be more perfect. It has beautiful views from the backyard, feels very secluded and remote and the hosts are super friendly and nice! Perfect in every way!

I have been to many places both near and far, and I’ve been to a bunch of different spots that are high and low. However, I am not too sure any one destination can match the charm, as well as coziness, of this little slice of Heaven in Montclair (also Oakland, California). In fact, I myself am pretty hard-pressed to find a better place to stay when I am not at home, and, as such, I have had no problem telling my family and friends about the breathtaking views that can be seen from every window of the cabin in Montclair; the great company that you will find in both Susan and Rand; and the smiles that will run from cheek to cheek whenever watching Susan and Randy’s dogs run after a ball, chase a squirrel, for example, up a tree, and prepare to go for a ride in a car.
I, again, have many wonderful things to say about the place in Montclair, but I am not too sure whatever I might say next could do justice to the overall splendor you will find about 10 minutes away from downtown Oakland. Therefore, the best thing I could ever say about the home that Susan and Randy have built is: GO!, and see the place for yourself. Seriously.

Beautiful Oakland hills property.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Our sons flew in to celebrate Thanksgiving with our newborn baby grandson. It was the perfect meeting spot up in the hills of Oakland. We will definitely stay here again.

Just like a retreat to paradise
We were so excited to return to this wonderful property. It was all we remembered and more. We enjoyed the hot weather and the cold weather both ! The privacy and quiet combined with the chimes in the trees and the view, the refreshing pool and delicious hot tub...Words do not adequately express our pleasure at being there.

Spectacular vistas
This is a lovely place to stay if you have a family or friend gathering. It is quiet and park like with beautiful grounds, trees, and wildlife, with wind chimes in the trees that ring gently in the breeze. The hosts are so very friendly and accommodating. They welcomed us with a basket of homegrown fruits and vegetables which we thoroughly enjoyed throughout our stay. They generously allowed us to use the pool, hot tub, table tennis, and outdoor games. Our family of adult daughters (and one toddler) had such a wonderful time barbecuing and sitting outside for meals in his beautiful setting.
The house had plenty of room for 5 adults to eat and sleep comfortably, though we admittedly spent most of our days enjoying the outdoors!

Secluded and yet close to everything
The description is quite accurate. This is a wonderful location in a park like setting which gives the feeling of the country side but yet it is close to everything. The hosts are very helpful and, when needed, take care of things quickly. The most playful dogs make this an extra treat.

What a lovely rental! Everything about the house was perfect for our family of 5 to use as a home base for exploring the Bay Area. We felt like we had a country retreat each evening, enjoying the pool and watching the sunset over the park.

Just like a retreat to paradise
As the wind gently blows thru the trees, all the bells chime in perfect harmony. We did not want to leave the property once we arrived, it is so perfect. The pool,hot tub, waterfall, and wonderful plants and trees made this the most serene stay.

Great little hideaway
We stayed here in order to be close to Cal for our daughter's graduation and accommodate family from out of town. Cute hideaway in spectacular location. Was concerned that the pool was communal with property owner but we really felt on our own and that we had our own privacy. Owner Sue was responsive to all our questions.

Words Fail
My wife grew up in Berkeley and I lived 20 years in the East Bay area. Neither of us have seen a haven like Sue and Randy's cottage. In a word: perfect. Not fancy, but tasteful. Like living in the forest while in one of the world's greatest metro areas. We're already planning our return. Thanks Sue and Randy.
