We stayed here for a high school regional ski competition for our two high schoolers at Marquette mountain. We were about 12 minutes from the mountain and the location was perfect for us. It was quiet at night and literally no road noise. The house was older but was updated nicely and very clean. The beds were comfortable and warm and there was enough space for our family of six to fit comfortably. Our only complaint was that the shower water didn’t get super warm and after a long day of skiing we wanted hot, hot showers. Everything else was great! Fully stocked kitchen with everything we needed and a responsive host who had clear directions for check-in/out. WiFi had a good signal and I was able to get some work done while there (I work for a healthcare facility accessing medical records). We were able to watch Netflix and our other streaming services. Absolutely no noise from the store or concerns there. Overall a great and comfortable place to stay. We enjoyed ourselves thoroughly.

Loved this cabin! Perfect size for our family of 4 & could have easily fit a couple more. Great communication with owner! Location was perfect, near Marquette mountain ski hill & the town and trail head to sugarloaf mountain is just a couple miles down the road! Was the perfect place to come back and relax at after each of our winter adventure days! The kids loved the store next door & it came in handy multiple times!

This was a perfect weekend! We came up for Martin Football finals which they Won, it was A Miracle in Marquette!! The location was perfect and Phil’s store next door was very convenient. Loved the huge table for dominoes and dice with a fire going in the fireplace. Would definitely stay here again. Instructions for the TV and controls would be nice😁

This place shows its age, but the appliances all work, and it was clean inside. The traffic on County Road 550 is fast and close to the front entrance but it did not impair our sleeping.

Although we did not take advantage of cooking at the rental, the place offered exactly what we needed. The rental is connected to the store, but it wasn’t inconvenient as we were gone before the store opened and got back after they closed, so the customer parking or traffic was never an issue.
You are approximately 7 minutes from Marquette and there are some good dining options. Sugarloaf mountain is only 3 minutes away.
Thank you for offering your rental so we could visit many waterfalls and area attractions. The UP is very beautiful.

My family stayed here for our first visit to Marquette! It was a great time and a great location. We were close to downtown and also close to trails and nature views. There was plenty of space for all 6 of us!

Our stay at Phil’s was phenomenal! The location was perfect and not too far from anything at all. The accommodations were just like being home, very cozy and welcoming. Marquette is a great place for adventuring. There are a ton of trails for hiking and biking. We WILL be back and plan to tell everyone we know what a gem this place is!

Overall, we were pleased with our stay at Phil's 550.
When we pulled up, I didn't realize the rental property and the store's storefront were literally right next to each other... it was a little weird that store patrons could park right in front of the house we were staying in, but turned out OK (there's a 'private residence' sign on the front). From the outside, the house looks small, but once you step inside - it magically opens up (for those Harry Potter fans it's sort of like the magic tents at the Quidditch World Cup). There was plenty of room for our family of six. The house is quirky and old and lovely.
The washing machine was still on the fritz, but we were able to use the washing machine within the store to wash our clothes (we were on day five of a tour-da-UP trip and had camped the days prior). Aaron and the store staff were very helpful!
The one element that I didn't expect was the busyness of the road and the number of semi-trucks hauling goods nearly all day and night. We had two small kids (eight and four) so we had to watch them carefully when out in front. The front of the house has double-pane windows that block the noise, but if you have any windows open (especially at night) - it'd be helpful to have some ear plugs on hand.

Cute, spacious, updated rustic feel cottage. It is attached to a store, but very quiet and inviting. They have everything you may need while there. I will recommend to friends.

We stayed for NMU orientation and and this worked out well. However, as s mountain biker and cross country skier, this place would be awesome. I'll be back for sure.

The cabin was cozy and clean! Though only 1 bathroom, 7 of us did just fine with it. Loved how close it was to hiking and to downtown for shopping. Disappointed the wash machine wasn’t working but hey, who wants to do laundry while vacationing. Will recommend to friends and family!

We stayed at Phil's 550 in early May for our first visit to the UP and we really enjoyed how close the property was to restaurants in Marquette (Vango's was delicious!), local hiking trails, Presque Isle Park, Lake Superior beaches and an easy 40-minute drive to Pictured Rocks. The area is beautiful! The property has lots of room for a family to spread out and a big fully equipped kitchen with toaster, crock pot, etc. We had no problems connecting to Wifi or using streaming services for movies at night. We did not use the twin beds upstairs, but the beds downstairs were very comfortable with cozy comforters and lots of extra throw blankets. We liked the convenience of being connected to the store ~ and once inside the rental property it just had a great cabin feel. Everything was clean and we enjoyed looking at the old black and white photos on the walls. Thanks for a great stay ~ we hope to be back soon :)

From the moment we walked in and saw a Christmas tree lit up we knew the owners cared about making our stay great. Property was clean and comfortable. Loved all the space for 5 adults, and at a price you huat can't beat!!
The only "bad" part is very low water pressure for showering. But I can live with that. One heat lamp went outbut since we had to run to Walmart we picked one up and replaced it, though I'm sure the owners would have remedied the situation, it was only a $3 bulb and we didn't mind taking care of it.
Can't wait to come back when there isn't snow so we can enjoy the fire pit....though the fireplace was a very nice bonus!!
This is our new GoTo place to stay when we come to town!!

The house was very cool, very log cabin-ish inside. It’s connected to a store but it was still quiet and safe. Very close to Sugarloaf and downtown. My only complaint was the shower. There was hardly any water pressure however, it was still functional. Ultimately we enjoyed our stay in this very cool and clean home.

Phil’s 550! Is a great located rustic home connected to the store with the same name! Great location just outside of Marquette.
The place was clean, other than a few cobwebs) when we arrived. A few concerns were that the owner was great to communicate with prior to arriving but upon arrival seemed to be less concerned with our needs. The dryer and several of the fans did not work. As noted earlier being connected to the store brought cars right to the front door.
Overall, it was an okay experience with a fabulous location.
