Petty charges, outdated mattress, all about location
Petty charges, outdated mattress, all about location
The location is what makes the property worth renting, as long as you are ok with older mattresses, the worst being in the master, which was so bad, two people cannot sleep on it without feeling the mattress springs poke you and the box springs and bed frame shift and shake if you move any of your appendages. The owners did “attempt” to remediate the situation by replacing the cheap metal frame with a “new” metal frame that was slightly better than the previous one, instead of replacing the mattress. The tags on the mattress had been removed, so no telling how old it was. We had to put the mattress and box spring on the floor for a week while we waited for the “new bed frame” that was “going to be so much better”. The pictures on the listing make it appear that the outdoor deck area where the grill is, is much bigger than it actually is, and the upper rooftop deck is sun exposed all day, so the area just outside the front door is where towels end up being hung, beach bags, shoes stored etc , which, being that it’s across the street from the beach, does lend to some sand and dirt being dragged onto the hard wood floors, which, with a large group, is impossible to keep the floors spotless. Be warned that cleaning apparently does not include sweeping/vacuuming of the floors without an extra fee? Which won’t show up or be discussed until AFTER you have left. If you intended to charge us at the mid cleaning you should have stated that in your text, how much you were charging, pictures, etc, when you commented on the “excessive” sand. There was never an indication in your text that a monetary value or penalty would be enforced until days after our departure. Also, keep in mind, that the hose provided is down a long flight of stairs. If you check your “cameras” you would see that we all regularly rinsed off our bodies downstairs, but in walking up the stairs, and then taking our shoes off outside, where sand lives, or walking barefoot up the stairs, sand is bound to enter the home and up on the floors. I would think that sweeping the floors, and sweeping up sand, is part of a routine cleaning, and a casualty of living across the street from a beach. It just felt very petty to add this charge after all the other fees and 15k+ expense we paid to stay in your home with no warning or discussion We took very good care of your home, put up with uncomfortable mattresses for a month, and were upfront with you the whole time we were there. 🥲.

We travel often and always choose home stays over hotels. Our stay at this property in Kailua ranks as #1 at the top of the list. The house is furnished beautifully with a fully stocked kitchen. Access to the bike path and Kailua Beach and Kailua Beach Park is two houses away. Lanikai Beach and the Pillbox is a 10 minute walk. Kailua town center is a1.2 mile walk. The local bus stop, a neighborhood market and Buzz’s are less than a 10 minute walk away. Views from the roof top are stunning. The hosts are charming and were quick to respond if something was needed. We will be back again, and we will book this property if it is available. Thank you, Rudy and Diana for your hospitality. Six first time visitors to Hawaii were “enchanted” with your home, the location, and their experiences. We all cannot wait to return.

To start with the positives, this place was very clean, roomy, well stocked, and the owners were friendly and helpful. The master bathroom shower drain emitted a pretty strong sewer smell everytime we showered regardless of rain/no rain but that wasn’t the big issue. The big issue was that we were told one day after cancellation(w/o penalty) was no longer possible that there was a construction going on right behind the house. For the entire 31 days we were subjected to loud drilling and sawing right outside the giant living room and dining room windows combined with dust & workers smoking which we could always smell. Too add further, there was a major water construction project happening all along the street out front which delayed driving in and out of the property and into town everyday, sometimes by 15-20 min each way. Sure improvements are necessary and unavoidable but as paying guests and not residents we have the choice of not picking places that hinder our vacation. The house construction might end soon but the road construction will continue through the end of 2021. If we had been informed of the full extent of all the constructions, we would not have stayed at this property.
