Historic House with Lots of Charm and Beautiful Views
About this house rental
Located in Racine, this lovely house for $265 per night is a fantastic option for your next trip. Welcome to the lake! We have the ultimate family vacation destination in SE Wisconsin. If you are a family of 4-6, looking for a great, relaxing, low-tech vacation location, we hope you'll think about staying at our place. Located in Racine, Wisconsin, on the shores of scenic Lake Michigan. Right across the street from North Beach, a top-4 freshwater beach in the Midwest, according to USA Today. This three-bedroom home originally built in 1837 has a lot of character and charm. Originally the Bucket of Blood Tavern on Main Street, the building was moved to Michigan Blvd in the late 1800s and turned into a residence by a British Naval Captain. Some say Abe Lincoln may have visited while it was a tavern, believe it or not! The building has been renovated many times since then, but still retains some old features, like the (now decorative) wood burning stove and chimney in the living room - and a creepy basement if you're into that sort of thing. Otherwise, the home has been completely modernized and is very comfortable for groups of up to 6 people. We keep it low-tech, so there is no television screen, but we do have Wi-Fi if you bring your own devices, and there are plenty of games and books to have some good old-fashioned family fun time. Three bedrooms with comfortable sleeping for six, includes one queen, one full, and a twin daybed with trundle. The views are stunning - you can enjoy lake views from the front porch and upper deck off the master bedroom. It is amazing to relax outside or in for a few days. We love this home and wanted to make it available for a select few to discover our part of Wisconsin. We are located 4 short blocks from the Racine Zoo. A quaint, family friendly, very clean, social gathering spot. Also on the shores of Lake Michigan, it is the location of the Animal Crackers concert series, bi-weekly Wednesday night free music performances during the summer. It is also the site of the Annual Car, Truck and Bike Show. Spend a few days or a summer week lounging on the beach during the day, letting the kids play on the life-guarded beach. Get out on the water with your boat or take a fishing excursion out on the lake. Bring your bikes to ride along the lakefront bike path and check out some live music down at the beach Oasis. For baseball fans, we are within 30 miles of Miller Park and only 75 miles to Wrigley Field in Chicago. Either one is a short day trip. In the evenings you can explore the nearby local restaurants and several new and established brewpubs. We can provide suggestions and let you know about our favorite spots. This is our second home and we enjoy sharing with family and friends. Strict occupancy limit applies. We do not allow parties which would harm the property and irritate the neighbors. If you are a responsible adult with a family and want to enjoy this property, we'll welcome you. Please send me an email with any questions, and I'll respond promptly.

We enjoyed being able to walk down to the beach or sit on the porch and watch the water, and the tennis courts were a quick walk down the street. Lovely vacation home!

Right across the street from a nice beach and near the zoo. The house was nice and had all the essentials for cooking your own meals.

Family vaca
We had a wonderful family vaca! Way more pros than cons.
Pros- location is right across from the beach, huge plus with young children (3 under 7)! Slept my family of 5 very comfortably. We loved that it didn’t have a TV, was great for unplugging and spending quality family time. Right near reefpointe marina where we had grandparents living which was so convenient. The homeowner has a fully stocked kitchen and even toiletries if you need them which was soo convenient and kind (3 of my crew forgot toothbrushes 🙈). Bath towels, beach towels galore. So appreciate this extra touch.
Cons- the house desperately needs a deep clean.. for the price we paid I expected it to be very clean so this was the only disappointment I have. On the surface inside it was fine, not great, but fine. However, under couches/corners of rooms, there were cobwebs and we had 3 spider friends in the 4 night stay we were there.. as for the outside, sadly it is not well maintained. Pulling up the house is very dirty and bugs/cobwebs all over the lights and porches. A beehive under the steps to the side door as well where you enter the house. We tended to not enjoy the front porch or upper deck due to the lack of cleanliness which is unfortunate because the view is beautiful. . Needs a good power wash.
Overall I would highly recommend this property but think it could be cleaner. We had a wonderful getaway and appreciate you sharing your home with us!

Great getaway
We had a great weekend and the home worked perfectly for two couples with room to spare. Highly recommended. The proximity to the beach was awesome, even on the cool October weather.

What a great location! Place was well kept and the renovation is so nice it's hard to tell it was an older property. The reason you would want to stay here is because the property is literally right next to the beach.

Great for Short Getaway
This location was so great for a quiet and quick getaway. The beach was never too crowded and the kids loved the Kids Cove playground just a walk from the house. The house itself was clean and updated just as it says. Love having the laundry onsite and the kitchen had all the utensils we needed. There were plenty of towels and lots of other small details like “emergency items” in the upstairs closet for things that you may have forgotten. Very short drive to Milwaukee if you want to change it up for a day. We enjoyed our stay!

Perfect stay for attending friends wedding
This property was so cool. Decorated awesome, eclectic and funky. Loved the kitchen, we used it a lot…stocked well with lots of pots, pans, plates, utensils, etc. Bathrooms were great, shower pressure was good, lots of towels and beach towels too. Beds were comfy…air conditioning worked well when we needed it.
My personal favorite part was the access to north beach. We had one full day of beach time with friends and children and it was lovely and easy. Just walked across the street.

We so enjoyed our time together at the “Bucket of Blood.” We had plenty of room for our family of 5 and appreciated the fully stocked kitchen, access to extra toilet paper, soap, etc. The location and views of Lake Michigan were amazing. The stairs were a bit tricky to successfully and safely block off with a curious and busy 18-month old, but with some creativity we made it happen!
Megan was a wonderful communicator and responded to all of my questions almost immediately. I would highly recommend this property for those who would like to visit Racine, WI and appreciate close proximity to the lake/beach, restaurants, and other local attractions.

This house is a great location for travelers who want to settle in for a few days. It is right across from the beach, a children's playground, bike path, and walking distance to a number of downtown spots. It was great for two couples along with a 7 & 3.5 yr. old to share the space. The kitchen is fully stocked with pots, pans, etc. with a deep sink for washing dishes (no dishwasher). The table has chairs for 5 and a few stools for others. Lots of towels were provided. There is a closet with a lot of family games too. Our weather was mild, but there are A/C units in each room for hotter days. The driveway is large and could fit 3-4 cars, but street parking right in front of the house was always available.

Property was just as described. Very clean and comfortable house with all the necessary amenities. Great views of the beach and lake. Was so nice to be able to walk right out front door, down a hill, and be on the beach. Great house for my family for a short stay. We enjoyed the proximity to the beach and breakfast on the nice terrace upstairs. The house is well decorated and brings all the comfort you need... with no TV which is fantastic to unplug kids for a couple of days! We played board games and spent afternoons on the beach. A few nice restaurants I. Downtown Racine which is a nice 20min walk. Definitely a nice weekend escape (little pricey maybe).

Just what we needed
This was the perfect weekend getaway for my family. The house was clean and has a great backstory and being close to the beach was awesome. Host was quick to respond. Great stay!

Great getaway, great house
The house is superclose to the beach, which was great for our little getaway. You basically just cross the street and walk down a hill and you are there! Not close enough to hear the waves, but being able to see the water from the windows or from the balcony is a great thing to have. House itself is spacious, was very clean und equipped pretty well! It even had 2 pack n plays for toddler/babies if needed and the beach umbrella came in handy as well!
Thanks for having us! Communication with Megan was quick and very easygoing.

Clean house, wonderful location
We had 4 adults, 2 young children and a newborn. The house was just what we expected. Just across the road from the beach, we had a good view and a short walk to the beach and the kids playground. The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed, and more.

Historic home with conveniences and location
This home does not feel like a rental; it feels like staying at a friend's house. The home has a really interesting history but has been fully renovated. We found it spotlessly clean (and we are really picky). We stayed with two couples, a single, and a child.
The location is delightful. From both the front porch and the deck off the master you can see the lake sparkling across the small road and large beach. The road is just used by beach-goers during the day and is quiet at night. You can easily walk to the playground and marina or into downtown.
The kitchen has all the tools and plenty of linens and connects beautifully to the dining and living rooms across a breakfast bar. The sink is huge. We were able to seat six around the dining table comfortably, but it is easy to chat between kitchen, dining, and living room if you aren't all eating at just the same time.
Bathrooms are convenient and easy to share. There is an easy access, large shower upstairs and a powder room on the main floor. They are recently renovated (with plenty of hooks for many towels) and everything worked perfectly. There is a hall linen closet with extra sheets and towels.
The master bedroom upstairs is spacious -- we were able to bring up the trundle mattress from downstairs for a kid and still had ample room despite plenty of luggage. There is a beautiful, huge dresser with mirror and shelves. The other bedrooms (one on each level) are smaller but still had plenty of room and a cozy feeling. All bedrooms have comfortable mattresses and useful closets.
The home is pleasantly decorated with fun colors and cute touches. It feels really personal and welcoming. The owner was super responsive to our questions and there is a local caretaker.
This home was a comfortable and relaxing setting for our little family gathering and I would definitely want to stay again.

Lake house
Wonderful spacious house on the lake. It was perfect gathering place for the cousins and running up and down the hill to swim.

A charming home to unwind and catch up with old friends. Beautiful views of a gorgeous lakefront.
How appropriate to spend time with " old " friends in this historic home on Lake Michigan. All the amenities and none of the distractions made this a delightful visit. The house is beautifully renovated but has the charm of the1860's. All necessities are there- linens, beach towels, grill, fully equipped kitchen. What a pleasure to sit on the porch or balcony and watch the sunrise, walk the beach, and see the moon rise over Lake Michigan. We highly recommend !

Cozy, comfortable, warm and relaxing
Loved the views of Lake Michigan! There's nothing like watching the sun rise over the lake, even on a chilly winter morning.
The character of this place made us feel right at home. Everything was super clean and comfortable.
We are very grateful to enjoy this home that Meg and Kat have made so beautiful and peaceful.
