The Onsen is nice - but unfortunately the hotel tried to charge me extra to keep the same room for 2 nights. I have to make 2 separate reservations as one night is for work and one for pleasure, so I need a separate receipt for my work. I usually contact the hotel when I make the second reservation to request that I can keep the same room. This has NEVER been a problem anywhere else (even if the room types are slightly different) and I travel in Japan often. For some reason they told me there was an extra cost? I disputed it and they didn't relent unless I paid extra. Finally, they said their was no fee if I stayed in the lower cost room for both nights. As I would have to pay extra for staying in the higher cost room for 2 nights, surely that would mean I get a discount for staying in the lower cost room for 2 nights. This was a customer service disaster.
I suggest that the hotel think about customer service rather than trying to squeeze unfair extra charges out of customers, especially regular customers. I have stayed - AND RECOMMENDED this hotel several times to colleagues. For the sake of about 20 dollars, was it really necessary to be so pedantic. I ended up changing rooms and the rooms were literally next door and almost totally identical so it wasn't like I was shifting from a economy room to a suite. In the past, I have written rave reviews about this hotel. NOT THIS TIME.
