About this cottage rental

Located in Machiasport, this attractive cottage for $239 per night is a fantastic option for your next break. Seacliff is a charming three-bedroom, one level, shabby-chic summer cottage. It is privately situated in the quiet village of Starboard Cove on Maine’s pristine Downeast coastline. The large porch just feet from the water awaits your early (or late) morning coffee, and another deck with steps leading down to the rock covered beach allows direct access to the water’s edge. Seacliff’s front yard is the Atlantic Ocean and dramatic open ocean and coastal island views await you. If the fog comes in, sit back with a good book and enjoy the warmth and crackle of the expansive coastal rock fireplace. Although you can’t see it, you’ll also hear the plaintive sound of Libby Lighthouse . . . life is good. Just a few steps from the main cottage is Downeast, a cozy and charming one room guest cottage, fully equipped with a kitchenette, queen size bed and a three-quarter bath. Downeast can be rented along with Seacliff for an additional fee if you have lots of family/guests. Part of the allure of Machias is its obstinate resistance to giving up its local charm. Although you’ll find a large well-equipped grocery store, you won’t find a Wal-Mart. And while you’ll find a McDonald’s and a Dunkin Donuts, you won’t find a Chucky Cheese. There is a Rite-Aid, bank, several gas stations, and some great local family restaurants that you won’t want to miss! From Seacliff, you can follow a winding dirt road that starts right after Seacliff and leads to idyllic views and a natural gravel bar that leads to Starboard Island. Although Starboard Island is privately owned, the walk on the bar is well worth the time. Also, located just a mile from Seacliff is one of the most unusual beaches anywhere, Jasper Beach. The multicolored pebbles of Jasper Beach paint an exquisite and rare coastline. In addition, there are many day trip options in the area including: West Quoddy Head in Lubec Maine (45 minute drive from Seacliff) which is home to West Quoddy Head Light -- the only candy-striped lighthouse in the U.S.A., Campabello Island, Canada and East Quoddy Head (less than an hour from Seacliff) where you can take the International Bridge to Campabello Island, Canada and visit Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s summer “cottage.” And then there’s the world famous Acadia National Park and Mt Desert Island (two hours from Seacliff). In order to make this a pleasant rental for all smoking is not allowed inside the cottage. *The Owner Cancellation Policy is as described in the Rental Agreement. This Rental Agreement refund/cancellation policy supersedes any cancellation/refund policy you may have read on VRBO/HomeAway sites regarding our cottage. Very beautiful. The house and deck with the fire pit was great. It is a very secluded area. I went to Matt the lobster guy a lot. There is not a lot of restaurants, but cooking lobster was easy, and cheap. Would recommend this place to people who don’t like alot of crowds.

We were greeted by our hosts and immediately realized we were in for a treat. They were attentive and thorough as they walked us around. The cottage was well-organized, beautifully located, and everything in it was placed to perfection. I have a chef’s kitchen at home and their kitchen lacked of nothing. We spent one of the best vacations of our lives there. We hope to return some day. We are grateful for having this glorious experience.

Loved staying here for our second time! Weather was not the greatest, but the week was still very much enjoyed by my kids, husband, and some Other family! My 5 year old daughter especially loves the loft ! This home books quickly a year or more in advance! We will be back, but unsure how soon! Thanks Mary and bill!

Our stay was absolutely perfect! The pictures of the property are great but it is even more beautiful in person! The cottage was equipped with everything we needed, with stores and restaurants close enough to stock up on groceries or to catch a bite. We absolutely fell in love with the cottage and the area. We are already planning our trip back to Seacliff next year.

In rereading the other reviews I think every superlative that could have been used has been and deservedly so. Although we saw very little sun (not one sunrise or sunset) we loved every moment at Seacliff. The location right on the ocean listening to the waves was such a balm for too busy minds. We, also, made very good use of the great fireplace on those chilly nights and found everything we could possibly need in the kitchen to stay home and enjoy meals. We would have loved to eat outside but not to be this time. This was the first time we had stayed in this area and found it to be a perfect location to resupply the kitchen and travel north or south on Rt. 1 to the too many to mention walking choices along the coast. There are 3 conservancies with great trails that are described online: Maine Coast Heritage Trust, Downeast Coastal Conservancy And Cobscook Shores. We have been traveling to this area since the 80's and still never tire of the beauty of this coast and woods. Staying at Seacliff was such a perfect, really perfect, place to return to each evening but sadly, we had to leave.

We stayed for a week and it definitely was not enough time. Whether you just want to relax at the cottage or use it as a base camp to explore the area, you will have a wonderful time here. We went somewhere everyday and would come back to the cabin in the evening and relax with a fire, either on the deck by the beach or the beautiful fireplace inside. We went to Acadia and rented e-bikes one day. We visited St John and Campobello in Canada on different days. The rest of the days we spent exploring other cities along the coast and hiking. Mary was very easy to get ahold of and we never had any issues at the property. If you are like me and have always wanted to spend some time overlooking the ocean in Maine, I can’t recommend this place enough!!
