Dera Haveli Heritage Homestay
is hidden in the back streets of an old area of Gwalior and offers a view of the fort where you can see the palace lit up at night in the distance from the rooftop. The room on top is very comfortable, spacious and quiet with an excellent hot shower, air con, fan, kettle and small fridge. Breakfast is served in room, patio or on the rooftop. Meals are available on request and freshly cooked - a menu card is available in the room. The wifi is less strong in the room and seems better outside. Rahul is very welcoming, helpful and can arrange transport as per your need - we asked for rapido. You can settle the account using UPI or cash. The area does not have many seated eateries but there are some great chai places. It is walking distance to the Scindia Museum and Palace and you can walk the 4km to the fort through back streets. Their a
mall nearby (1km) with supermarket, specialty shops and coffee (the best coffee we found at Burger King). There are only a few rooms available in this heritage building.

The set up here is my absolute favourite.
A large bedroom with air-conditioning & seating so you can comfortably be inside if it's too hot outside. But outside, there was a lovely little covered deck with a table & chairs, lighting & a fan
We so enjoyed sitting out there in the pouring down monsoon rain, having a beer & snack in the late afternoon, then later dining from the house menu.
Great chef, by the way!

And, lovely quality, heavy cotton sheet & duvet cover on the bed.
Nothing at all.
It's very rare to get all the ducks stacked up in a row - such a pleasant place to stay.

This review is based on the queen room and not the superior queen room. There is one queen room (room 101) and two superior rooms (102&103)
The hotel is located in the centre of town just 5 mins taxi ride from the Jai Vilas Palace on a busy commercial road with lots of shops eateries etc, however it is up a side street so is very quiet. Staff very helpful and polite. The breakfast was a very good size. I had an omelette which was well cooked while the fruit platter consisted of 2 bananas and a large bunch of grapes. The room was clean and it’s quite spacious too. Finally the A/C worked well
It should make it clearer that this room has a private bathroom but it’s not an en suite, it’s across a corridor which is inconvenient. Water for shower was luke warm. Room is internal so has very little light.
