About this house rental
Nestled in Altadena, this attractive house for $266 per night is a fantastic option for your next trip. Located in the foothills of " beautiful" Altadena, this updated guest house is really something to experience. Whether you are a business traveler, vacationer, or "stay"cationer, you will experience the San Gabriel mountains right outside your backdoor. With numerous activities at your fingertips, there is something for everyone. Mountain biking and hiking, shopping and dining, or just staying put to enjoy the lush grounds with fruits trees, a running-water creek, many sitting areas with mountain and sunset views, a lagoon-like pool and an inviting jacuzzi. The owners are on-site and available for any questions or needs you may have. Having the Rose Bowl so close, the annual parade is three miles down the hill and we can arrange shuttling so you don't have to bother with parking. The parade floats, on display for three days after the parade, are even closer to our property and a real treat to visit. Christmas Tree Lane is also in Altadena along with the famous Balian House that has a beautiful display of Christmas lights, music and scenes of Christmas (this one being walking distance from our house)! Old town Pasadena is booming with shops, restaurants, movies theaters, and more just a short distance away. Downtown L.A. is a 20-30 drive on the 110 Freeway. Hollywood is a 30-40 min. drive depending on traffic (of course). The beach or snow skiing can both be as close as an 1 hour away. Of course, we think you'll want to stay put...

Nice property with among multiple dwellings within their lot . Landscaping was beautifully done. Very quite and easy access. The patio area needed a good power washing, debris blowing and a new BBQ grill (unusable). The outdoor chair cushions were marginally useful. Inside it needed more storage for clothing. No dresser and limited space in the one small closet. Toiletries were Dollar General level and the containers were almost empty. Bedding was exceptionally nice. TV video options were very limited - no live network channels but had apps. Great theater viewing however. All in all a good rental, just needed a little more attention to the details.

I needed a quiet place to stay for 9 days and this property was perfect. It was very important to be in a beautiful environment and this met all my expectations and then some! Thank you to Deena and John.

Deena and John were very responsive and helpful throughout the stay. The property is a reflection of their great attention to detail and everything was in immaculate condition. The proximity to some amazing hiking trails made it incredibly convenient to start our mornings with a nice hike. We really enjoyed our time and would love to stay at the property again. Cafe De Leche is a lovely coffee shop nearby and next to the cafe there are food trucks regularly present as well as a taco pop-up on Sunday.
We hope to return to this lovely property in the future.

We came in from a difficult experience at the airlines, having canceled all flights, rebook them such that we arrived at 2:00 AM. We were greeted by a lovely, serene Haven.
I emailed the hosts to let them know our problem, and they kindly left the door open so we could get in. It’s good it’s good to We know were to run the washing machine because the parts need to be very happy and treated very well.

Our stay was simply amazing. Check in and out was fast and easy. The house and neighborhood was beautiful and quiet. The house was also in a nice location.

We enjoyed our stay at John and Deena's property! For myself, my husband, and my one year old, it was the perfect size for us for a week. Highlights were enjoying the pool, beautiful yard, and mountain views. We also loved the tv projector in the unit! And you can't beat the location - close to all Pasadena has to offer and a reasonable drive away from Hollywood and other LA sites/neighborhoods.
The only con was that we were not aware there were two other sets of guests on the property until we arrived/saw a recent review. While we hardly encountered them, I do wish this was disclosed in the listing as it does make a difference to the feeling of privacy.
Overall if you're looking for a beautiful property to use as a home base as you explore LA, we would recommend!

All was as described in the listing. Beautiful cozy casitas at the back of the property on a quiet street. Well appointed kitchen and bath, outdoor table and chairs on patio overlooking pool and hot tub.
We needed a bit of extra coaching with projector television and air conditioning, and owner responded within a few minutes to make everything perfect. Would definitely stay again.

Not so private Getaway
The listing says private and it is not. The home has 2 airstreams and a pool house that share the yard.
The use of the hot tub requires you to schedule a time and provide notice to the owner an hour ahead of the time you wish, as long as someone else isn't already booked for that time. When we asked to use the hot tub at 9pm, (closing at 10pm per the book) the owner initially gave push back sayng that the motor is loud in their bedroom. But they did reluctant turn it own and left it on overnight.
The pool was green and had debris the day we arrived on Saturday. They did not "clean" it until Sunday afternoon.
There was an issue with the door lock to the pool house and we weren't able to lock it, at all. They did replace the batteries later that day and we were able to lock the door.
The shower has only one temperature setting, scalding hot; no matter what position you put the handle at. Neither of us were able to take a full shower or wash our hair. I also noticed that other renters have complained about this in the past. It could be dangerously hot if there was a small child.
Lastly, the pictures are not current. There are no privacy curtains on the hot tub and the outdoor sitting area is much smaller due to the addition of the airstream. Reduced to ply the concrete pad. Also there is not a fireplace for use at the pool house as stated in the description and in the pictures.
Other than that, the property was lovely with orange and avocado trees. The orange are amazing! The yard is well manicured and the "stream" from the hot tub to the pool is nice. The pool house has some very nice touches and was comfortable.
Overall, we did enjoy our stay and the rental worked for our needs.

Garden style retreat in the heart of Alta Dena

Our only other problem was the scalding shower water.
On the plus side, the grounds are HEAVENLY, and the projector TV turned every night into a special event!!! We LOVED this feature so much!!!
The host, John, was a delight—VERY easy to reach and always happy to help.
Overall, this is a charming couples rental we would stay at again!!

We had the most wonderful stay here! This is a beautiful, CLEAN guest house nestled in the backyard of a truly gorgeous property. We felt like we were in paradise! John and Deena were awesome!!! The place looks exactly like the pictures! Privacy was kept and they were great hosts with awesome communication. The location was perfect for getting away from the busy LA and the mountains were beautiful up close. Minutes away from Eaton Canyon which was a nice spontaneous activity. Had a wonderful time! Beautiful retreat!

We had a wonderful time and enjoyed the guest house, the patio, the swimming pool, and the beautiful garden. John and Deena are very discreet and let us enjoy the pool and garden as much as we wanted. The neighborhood is very quiet and there are opportunities to hike within 5 minutes from the house. We completed our journey from San Francisco by spending a few days at Deena and John’s place. We had an extremely pleasant stay away from the bustle of LA. We had a wonderful time and enjoyed the guest house, the patio, the swimming pool, and the beautiful garden. John and Deena are very discreet and let us enjoy the pool and garden as much as we wanted. The neighborhood is very quiet and there are opportunities to hike within 5 minutes from the house.
