We rented thru Best of Canaan last year and had a great experience so we decided to try it again this year but a month earlier hoping for more snow. Well we didn't get more snow (there was enough for both downhill and X-country skiing) but we had an equally enjoyable experience. The rental was in Davis, convenient to everything. It was very cute and comfortable; we especially liked the wood burning fireplace which we took advantage of almost every nite. The only downside was that the dishwasher was leaking so we couldn't use it. But that wasn't such a big deal

Cozy house in a convenient and beautiful location - just minutes from Blackwater State Park and downtown Davis. Very close to skiing, hiking, sledding. Only cons - have to drive 20 minutes out of the way for check in/ out (40 minutes total) and the stairs are not safe for kids - no guardrail on one side.

This townhouse was adequate for our needs. Within an easy drive to Parsons for the Bluegrass Festival. There are several window cranks that were broken, several ants traps around to address the ant problem, many burn marks in the carpet, and I totally scrubbed the coffee maker prior to use. Beds were adequate and showers/ bathrooms were fine. With a little TLC and a few additional cooking implements, this could be a more desirable rental.

Cute cabin very close to state park, restaurants and shops in Davis. This was a great place to stay with 2 kids. Kitchen is fully stocked for cooking, beds comfortable, quiet neighbors. We can’t wait to come back.

The location of this rental is perfect for a weekend in the Canaan Valley. Unfortunately the property was not as clean as it could have been (lots of dust, hair in the upstairs shower) and the bedding could use an update.

This home was not comfortable at all. It had snowed heavily when we arrived and no one had plowed the parking or shoveled the entry. Someone had been smoking inside and management tried to cover the smell with glade air fresheners. The carpet was riddled with burn marks, and most of the furniture was broken or wobbly. There was water damage visible all over the condo, and the bedding was stained. We slept in the smaller bedroom because there was a large brown stain on the master bed. The beds were wobbly and the bedding provided wasn’t warm enough. We tried to make the best of it and build a fire in the fire place, but the fire place wouldn’t draw. We had booked three nights, but left after two because the place was so bad. We will not be renting with Best of Canaan again.

This was a perfect place for our trip as it provided an opportunity to enjoy Canaan Valley without any human contact, ideal for COVID conditions - separate entrance, contactless check-in and check-out. The property is modest but clean, with a real and well-functioning fireplace and big terrace (which we didn't use because of the snowstorm). It's close to the main road, but this was actually a plus as it made it easier to get through snow. There are minor minuses (there is no bathroom downtairs and kitchen has a limited number of glasses or plates and is not too well stocked with utencils, except pots and frying pans - bring your own corkscrew and wine glasses if you're into wine), but generally it is a cozy and nice place at a very reasonable price, and the management company is very friendly.

This is an older property with some maintanence issues. All together, except for the fact that both bathrooms were on second floor, it worked out for us. No AC or large trees to keep property cool during heat of the day but cooled off nicely for sleeping.

My family and I absolutely loved this rental. It was in a great location very close to Blackwater Falls and the center of Davis. The view of the stars at night was amazing! Inside of the rental was very clean. The only issue we had was the water in the shower got cold very quickly and there is not a railing on the one side of the stairs to prevent falls( mostly concerned for young children). The property was in a small rental community, but this particular rental was very private. The people at the rental company were very helpful and responded very quickly to questions we had. We loved our stay and will definitely try to rent this property again when we come back to Davis!

Good but a few glutches
We enjoyed our stay with a few concerns. The house smelled musty when we arrived and we purchased candles and carpet deodorizer to reduce the odor. Also, one of the chairs at the dining table had unglued rungs that almost caused a fall when it was sat in. Found another chair with same problem. In addition, the WiFi had to be reset several times each day.
Overall we enjoyed our stay and explored all the nearby towns and Blackwater Falls. We also saw a bobcat cross the parking lot and road the morning of our departure. A very beautiful site.

Overall the place was great. Two of the window cranks were broken, not a huge deal. Well equipped kitchen, washer and dryer. Peaceful location. Nice sized deck to enjoy the cool evening. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

The duplex at Pendletonheim 1B isn't fancy, but it was clean and suited our purposes nicely. It was very close to Davis and Blackwater Falls State Park. The mattresses were actually quite comfortable; however, a larger mattress in one bedroom would have been nice. We were pleased with the value and very happy with the management company.

well-kept small condo, cozy for two or four. kitchen well-stocked (an more complete list of kitchen items would be helpful), easy for home-made meals. location is great, close to Blackwater Falls, White Grass and other ski areas. Roadways and driveways were promptly plowed after the area received over a foot of snow. Enjoyed our stay!

The unit was perfect for us two. Very clean and very quiet! It was close to many of the attractions. We did alot of exploring around the area- caverns,train ride,etc. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
