Stylish, exclusive use, and luxurious, this authentic Victorian house is located in iconic Maldon. There are several price points available. Fairbank offers six guests 3 bed/3 baths: one has a very large bed (or two superking singles) with walk-in shower ensuite; another is a master queen with a full ensuite clad in Carrara marble, and the third queen has another full bathroom down the hall. All have Posturedic pillowtop mattresses and Sheridan Egyptian cotton bedlinen and towels, plus individual 'Pure' toiletries. Quilts are top quality down and feather. Superior furnishings and fully equipped kitchen and dining room offer guests the choice of preparing their own meals with provisions from the artisan food providers 300m away, or investigating the authentic cafes and hotels along Main and High Streets. There's a complementary hamper of local produce, plus a bottle of quality wine, provisions for breakfast and larder essentials. Literally sitting on a goldmine (South Alliance), there's a large secure garden with inbuilt BBQ from which food can be served on the patio or the large outdoor dining area off the lounge. The pergola offers sun-soaking luxury, and the garden is beautiful. The accommodation is suitable for all ages and families including well-behaved paws. Walking trails include three comprehensive walks around town, available from Fairbank's wifi, and the Parks Victoria Goldfields trail opposite that winds its way from the Battery, past the Beehive Chimney and the Machinery Museum through town and up to Anzac Hill for that all important photo shoot. By car (or bike) you can see the hidden parts of Maldon, the Nuggetys goldmines, still in operation, Bowe's cottages to the north, the tower on top of Mt Tarrangower, and Carman's Tunnel and the North British ruins to the south. Why not gather provisions and go for a swim (or fish) in Lake Cairn Curran at Baringhup? Trips further afield include visiting Tarnagulla and Moliagul (Welcome Stranger), or take in the city sights at Castlemaine, visit Fryerstown and Vaughan Springs, or join the million plus visitors annually at Daylesford. Macedon and Kyneton also add to the appeal. Maldon is in central Victoria. We stayed for the weekend with our dogs and some friends. What an amazing place - first up, the local produce & food hamper. Everything from cheese, milk, eggs, bacon, bread (a white loaf and gorgeous fruit toast), some local wine, mangoes, tomatoes - everything to make a beautiful breakfast on both days. And the chocolates from Cabosse & Feve Chocolates.... we stopped in there to pick up more! The yard is secure and dog friendly. Our two were kept entertained sniffing and frolicking morning & arvo. The house is stunningly renovated. Everything you could want in the kitchen. Comfortable & lush living areas, same for the bedrooms. Beds were very comfortable, a pillow for every occasion, and bathrooms were very nicely done. Exceptionally clean, gardens were immaculately kept.

Our idyllic long weekend at Fairbank House was one we will not soon forget. The charming historic Maldon with it’s wealth of tempting shops, cafes and restaurants and it’s wonderful walks was all the better for staying at the luxury of Fairbank House. Warm and comfortable, beautifully decorated and well supplied, we slept in, lounged about, had cheese platters on the covered deck, had a dinner party and generally our extended family had a lovely time. My highlight though, was sitting on the verandah, with a glass of wine, while below me was a wealth of dahlias and gladioli in the gorgeous garden and the setting sun gilded and coloured the extensive view before me. Going back to the city was hard!
