It's Hakkoda, so options are limited, spring, summer or winter Hakkoda Hotel is a great option. They dont have a lot of english, but the staff are helpful and work hard to please. Goolge Translate fills in the gaps. If you are familiar with this area, you will know that entertainment outside the hotels is limited and so are food options. the Hakkoda hotel, gives you a choice of French or Japanese evening meal, and likewise for breakfast. We decided we could not eat all their set meals, and the staff were happy to accommodate and do toast and eggs for breakfast.
If you are staying here in the winter, and want to access the ropeway. Expect long delays, an Hour wait for the cable car is normal these days. Remember also that if the wind gets up (above 45kph), they close for the day, this means you need consider what you will do on those mandatory days off.
Last thing to remember, the road is closed between 8:00pm and 8:00 am through the winter.
