Great location, beautiful garden and atmospheric common spaces. The room was spacious with tatami. We liked everything about our stay. The staff was friendly and polite.

room was spartan and i didnt realise it would be futons on the floor. which wasnt a problem for comfort just getting up and down for age. view was good although unless im looking at a brick industrial wall im not fussed, it is for sleeping.
the matting i thought was quite old and so there was for me dust. no great but was there.
wifi was only available in the lobby and not in rooms and power points were down to one. it was considered a cultural stay so power points would not be big on agenda in the past.
as a cultural stay i think you cannot add much and i was not sure what it would be like before we arrived. as an older person i would stay in modern in future as the price is the same but experience is not comparable. i am glad we did it

Really beautiful place to stay. It runs along a walking path with a view of the mountains, parks and gardens, and there are many fishermen in the morning. The walk to the Lawson is ~15min but I enjoyed it every time. The baths rotate men/women every other day, but you should hope you get the one with the big window; it is beautiful and very comfortable.
It is cash only!! I checked the booking.com page before checking in but somehow missed that. They’re flexible about letting you pay the next morning, though.

Location is the biggest win. You can walk to Lake Kawaguchi, nearby parks, and convenience stores easily. If you want to explore the area on foot, this place is hard to beat.
The onsen (hot tub) is separate for men and women. It’s very small, but clean and genuinely relaxing. No luxury here, but it does the job well. There’s also a large Japanese-style dining hall, and they offer free coffee and Japanese tea, which is a nice touch.
The futon is uncomfortable. Because it’s on tatami, it shifts when you move.
Privacy is almost nonexistent. The walls have poor insulation, when people in the next room talk, you hear them clearly.
The staff are polite but cold. They’re respectful, but don’t expect friendliness, warmth, or smiles. Service feels mechanical.
