Toba International Hotel

The modern and airy hotel sits on top of a large cliff overlooking picturesque Toba Bay, a 90 minute train ride from Nagoya. There are two buildings, one on the lower part with "Harbor View" and one on the upper with "Ocean View". One should definitely spend a little extra and book an "Ocean View" room, as this puts you in the "Ocean View Club" with great perks such as as access to a private ocean-view lounge with a dedicated chef for (included) breakfast (away from the crowd next door) and free cocktail hour with delicate snacks and unlimited bar provided, free spa and gym access, as well as a 2000 Yen voucher for the excellent hotel gift shop. The hotel is served by its own shuttle bus departing to and from the train station by the hour. The train to the major shrines of neighboring Ise takes about 25 minutes. The "Ocean View" room was spectacular with two panorama windows, extra space for luggage, good beds, great selection of bathroom necessities, and of course a wide flat screen TV and WiFi access. We wanted to watch James Bond "You only Live Twice" which was filmed right there in front of us, but Amazon Prime only had it in Japanese: so the manager came personally to our room and after almost 10 minutes of programing got us the movie in English - and then apologized! And the view with the pearl-oyster farms, oh my! The staff goes out of its way to accommodate, and for goodbye they wait at the hotel entrance until the bus departs and then greet you with a deep bow, including the manager. One feels indeed like a head-of-state.

The room size and view was nice. Beds and bed linens were also nice.

The room had an odour to it. The carpet was stained throughout. The bathroom was tiny, old and dingy. Not the quality I would expect for this price point.
