Accommodation highlight of the trip.
We stayed one night in Sawaki. The breakfast was great, traditional Japanese style and possible to have a vegeterian breakfast. Our room was huge, a very pretty ryokan style. Everything was spotless and had everything we needed. The staff was very helpful and kind; they kindly gave us and our bikes a lift to the start of our cycling route that day, even though it isn't a service that they offer. Also, the pictures on booking.com don't do it justice. Could not recommend this place enough!
Nothing. Everything was great!

One of the highlights of our Shimanami Kaido ride
We stayed here while cycling the Shimanami Kaido and really enjoyed our stay. Instead of taking the more direct route across Omishima, we chose the northern coastal/Island Explorer route so we could see more of the island. We arrived Omishima at around 3 PM and got to the ryokan at around 5 PM (we had plenty of stops along the way, especially the hilly parts). so I’d definitely allow some extra time if you’re planning to take the same route. The ryokan is also an easy walk from Oyamazumi Shrine, with a Lawson nearby.
Our room had a private bathroom and was very spacious, clean and comfortable. There’s bicycle parking, which was convenient for us, and yukata and bathroom amenities were provided in the room.
We arranged dinner with the ryokan before we arrived, and I’m really glad we did. We had dinner in the dining hall and the food was excellent. There was a lot of local seafood, including rockfish, sea bream, squid, scallops and prawns, served in different ways from sushi to grilled, boiled and fried dishes. We also had sea bream rice, clear soup and local oranges. The staff took the time to explain each dish as it was served, which we really appreciated.
Breakfast was a traditional Japanese breakfast and was just what we needed before getting back on our bikes the next morning.
Cheese welcomed us when we checked in and was very friendly and helpful. The rest of the staff were also very attentive, and we felt well taken care of during our stay. Check-out was quick and easy. Since dinner wasn’t part of our original reservation, we just paid for it separately by credit card when we checked out.
Overall, we had a great stay and would happily stay here again.

Great ryokan in Omishima
Well located close to a convenience store and some restaurants. The room was spacious and made our child happy because he could move around. It was split in sleeping and living area. There was no bathroom in the room but having a sink was helpful. An English speaking lady was super kind to us. The bathroom facilities are a bit outdated but quite fine. The breakfast was delicious. Tea and cookies were waiting for us in the room. A bike storage is available, as well as an onsen that is only 4' away by car (the ryokan provides a free shuttle service)

Fabulous ryoken experience with free shuttle and only Y500 for 2 into Mare Grassia Onsen
It was absolutely perfect, very well priced, wonderful food, really friendly attentive staff, and great atmosphere. Beautiful room, very clean. Absolute bonus they provide a free shuttle to the Mare Grassia Onsen (Y500 for two people), a series of public hot salt water bath onsens just a few minutes away. They also provide a basket of towels and lotions! We saw the sun set in the outdoor onsen and went back to Ryoken Sawaki for a delicious dinner. 100/100. 🤗🤗🤗

Room was spacious and comfortable but the property and facilities were quite dated. There weren't many options in the area when I booked 1 month prior, but after having stayed, the experience didn't match the amount spent.
