I had the Family Room with Mountain View, on the 5th floor. It had two large beds, both with the typical firm mattresses you find in Vietnam though one was more firm that the other (I opted to use the firm one). The fridge worked very well, producing ice which was great. The bathroom is a good size with plenty of hot water.
The location is brilliant. It is one street back from the main road, so very close to coffee shops, cafes, restaurants and mini markets, but no noise from any of this activity.
As others have commented on, the host, Tai is wonderful. He sorted my transfer from Cat Ba Island, and took my panicked calls with good grace and calm when I misunderstood what was happening there. He also made suggestions on activities for me to do during my 3 full-day stay there.
Keep in mind that this is a 2 star place. It is a little dated and tired but it is clean and excellent value for money. It was perfect for my needs and my budget.
Don't go expecting awe-inspiring views of the 'mountain' - it is literally so close that you can't see it unless you stick your head out the window and look up, but you do see lovely lush green trees and vines from the window so this is not a complaint - it's just expectation management for future guests.

The hotel is a lovely establishment, right near all the amenities you may need (shops, restaurants, coffee shops). Our room was huge, clean, and had a smart TV so that we could watch Netflix and YouTube.
But the real strength of this place is the amazing hospitality you receive as a guest. Tai is an absolute gem of a host. He was extremely communicative even before we arrived, offering to help us arrange our trip there and giving us directions.
Once we got there, we immediately realised that not only was he extremely helpful and kind, but his English was also the most fluent we have encountered throughout our whole trip to Vietnam (which made communication even easier).
He helped us with anything we needed, from arranging laundry service to getting us the number for local taxis, and made sure that we had clean towels every day. When it was time to check out, he was extremely flexible and told us we could check out late. Lastly, not only did he arrange our trip from Cat Ba to Hanoi, but he also helped us carry our suitcases all the way to the meeting point where we were catching our bus.
We had the best time at Rose Nhung Hotel, and we'll definitely be staying here again if we're ever in Cat Ba. Thanks again, Tai!

Goeie locatie, fijne bedden. Alles was super schoon en de flesjes water waren heel prettig. De jonge eigenaren waren enorm behulpzaam en vriendelijk.
