We stayed for 4 nights in March. The cottage was very spacious for us and the decor pleasant. While staying the weather was very changeable but we always felt cozy. The kitchen was well equipped as were the bathrooms.
The cottage is very close to the 'Mountains to Sea Trail' and we did a couple of enjoyable hikes on the trail. The dogs also felt welcome and enjoyed the back yard of the house, the interesting new sniffs and the wide variety of trails to explore.
Finally, the owners were very helpful with our questions. It was an enjoyable stay!

The host was very kind, helpful and discreet, we briefly saw her when she arrived in the evening and that was the only time we saw her. We’d definitely stay here again.

Family trip to Asheville
House was very well maintained and had all the amenities plus more you could ask for. If you were missing anything you could just let Cindy, live-in hostess, know or contact the owner, Susan. (She left 4 beach towels for us so we didn't have to pack them.) House is located close to downtown (about 10 min drive) and other local attractions. We definitely recommend this place for others to stay here.

We couldn’t have asked for a better experience at Carefree Cottage. Communication with the owners prior to our stay was clear and everything described in the listing was spot on. Our on-site hostess was available when we needed her, and out of sight the rest of the time. Furnishings and appointments were wonderful, from the rocking chairs and front porch swing through the cozy and charming living room and bedrooms to breakfast on the serene back patio. Location was perfect! Just a few short minutes to the Biltmore and downtown Asheville, with easy access to the Blue Ridge Parkway and even a cut through to a hiking trail. We couldn’t have asked for a better spot for our first visit to the area. When we come back, our first reservation will be at Carefree Cottage.

Cozy & Comfy at Carefree Cottage
Carefree Cottage was perfect for our weekend visit to Asheville and Biltmore Estate! I appreciate all the information that Susan provided to ensure our stay would be both enjoyable and memorable
and it was! The cottage is tucked away in a quaint and quiet neighborhood and feels like you are far from town but it is actually very close to downtown Asheville and the Biltmore Estate. 5-7 min drive. The cottage was very clean and welcoming and had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. There was a wonderful basket of snacks and goodies, too! Cindy the live in hostess was very gracious and kind; she checked in on us when we arrived and also the following evening to ask if we had everything we needed. My dear friend and I had such a wonderful time exploring the town and touring the Biltmore and had a lot of catching up to do since she came in from out of state and our stay at Carefree Cottage was perfect for that. I feel blessed to have found this place as we had a wonderful time!

I missed the details stating someone stays on property overnight and was too close to the trip to cancel. Our hesitations were due to privacy, covid and security which turned out to be of little concern. (AVOID the competitor air*n*- see note below). Glad we went forward with it, as it was a wonderful stay! Meeting Cindy, the overnight resident was actually a treat and we had some fun conversation! Both she and the Susan were great with communicating Cindy's schedule after arrival.
The house was very clean and comfortable and our stay was personalized with a goodie gift basket. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes, cookware, food storage containers, coffee and tea, and a gas grill is also available.
A nice surprise was the hiking trail about one block outside the front door. There is a trail loop that took about 25-40 minutes, and another longer trail we didn't try. No crowds, but passed a few people each day and the trail was well kept.
Few suggestions would be to include a in wall safe for those with security concerns and to VRBO, add a filter so when searching for a "house", it only provides houses with full privacy.
Re air*n*, avoid them if you want security and protection! On the first day of a holiday stay, the owner's contractor stole my laptop, ss#, bank acct and CC#s, ruined my vacation, and they have not resolved the issue 1 1/2 years later (it's on camera, so there is no question who stole it). It's not worth it.

Carefree Cottage is cozy and secluded. We wanted to go somewhere as a family before our daughter goes to college. She wanted to find great restaurants. I wanted to have coffee outside every morning. Susan helped give us that. She gave us recommendations for restaurants in Asheville, and bought coffee just for me. She also stocked the fridge with my husband’s favorite soda.
The cottage is on a very quiet, dead end road, but it’s just a few minutes from Asheville and the Blueridge Parkway. It was the cleanest property I’ve ever stayed at. The decor is comfortable and very cheerful. There’s a lot of natural light. The beds are comfy, and the kitchen is fully equipped. The landscaping is beautiful. I will mention that it’s built on the side of a mountain. That means there are quite a few stairs to go up between the road and the front door.
Susan asked ahead of time about our favorite snacks. We walked in and found a basket overflowing with goodies! She really knows how to spoil her guests.
You may see in reviews that the housekeeper, Cindy, also lives in the house. I wasn’t sure what that was going to be like when I booked, but you never even know she’s there. She enters through the shared front door when she comes home in the evening and asks if you need anything. She wears a mask. She is absolutely the sweetest person ever! We did chat a bit, but only because I wanted to, and it was only for a few minutes. If you didn’t want to visit, I can guarantee that you’ll never know she’s there.
I’ve never stayed at a vacation property that I wanted to visit again. They were all nice, but I’ve always been ready to go home by the end of my visit. Not this time. I can’t wait to go back to sit on the deck in the morning and drink my coffee.

Also throw blankets, a tool drawer (flashlight, tape, scissors, Sharpie, etc), cloth placemats and napkins. All the comforts of home! Cindy checked in with us when she got home in the evenings, then disappeared to her part of the house. Susan responded very quickly and thoroughly. We are grateful to have stayed with such gracious hosts!

Perfect stay!
We had a great stay at Carefree Cottage.
Meet the owners when we arrived early, and they were so friendly. The left a gigantic basket of goodies for us which was so thoughtful. The rental is the cleanest VRBO I have ever stayed in. Everything in the house worked perfectly. The coffee left behind was so good. There is a front, side and back porch to relax on, which we loved. The location was very very close to Highland Brewery which we loved. We were there for fishing , and it was great that it was so close to the highways that we needed to get to the rivers.
We would go into Asheville at night, which is always fun. It was usually about at 15-20 minute ride into town depending on where we were heading in town and traffic. Cindy, the live in hostess, was very nice and always made sure we had what we needed. When she was not checking in us, we never saw here or even heard any sounds coming from her room.
Overall, I would strongly recommend the Carefree Cottage, and look forward to our return.
