La piscine !

The pool was unique and the surrounding countryside was beautiful.

Based on reviews, the pictures available online and the price of €105 /night, we had high expectations here but have not often been as disappointed. The room we were given was not in any of the pictures we recognised, it was pokey, box like and characterless with damp patches on the wall and no redeeming features. The very narrow shower room had very few places to hang towels and a tiny shower cubicle with plastic doors which leaked badly. We were offered an alternative room (we were told it was a matter of taste we didn’t like the one given) but it was directly beside the road and tucked away even further in the corner of the property behind the main block without any view except of the road, concrete and the room directly opposite. The room wouldn’t have been so bad had there been good outside space but there was just a two seater bench (for three of us) facing the outside breakfast tables. Other people sat at this bench to smoke so despite it being right outside our room, it never felt like our space and meant that the only window we could open directly above the bench had to be kept closed to keep out cigarette smoke. There was no peace and no privacy in the mornings for a couple of hours at breakfast time when tables were full. The view of the stunning countryside beyond the breakfast area was blocked completely by tall shrubs which was a huge shame. More thought to the layout could easily improve this for everyone just by moving the breakfast tables a little further away from all the accommodation area and lowering the height of the shrubs. The grounds are extensive and have huge potential, accommodation is tucked away in a corner behind a massive block of a building and right on the property boundary. There was no usable tennis court as advertised. The pool closed early (5.30/6) although the owners seemed not to mind some later use. Sorry we didn’t feel we could leave a more positive review as the owners were lovely people.
