Excellent room.
Nice breakfast.
They give soup and dumplings for free every night from 21:30 - 23:00.
I had an unpleasant check-in experience. The reception girl literally interviewed me and made me feel like I'm in the country illegally. The comversation went like this :
Her : What's your nationality? [She's holding my British passport]
Me : British
Her : Can I see your visa?
Me : I don't need a visa. I'm British. There's a visa-free entry.
Her : What's your nationality?
Me : British.
Her : [Looks at 2 of her collegues, who are now looking at me like this is an interrogation]
Her : When did you enter China?
Me : 15-May-26 (showing her the stamp on my passport)
Her : Where did you enter?
Me : Shanghai.
Her : [Looks confusedly at her collegues, now knowing what to do next]
Me : I've been here in China for 2 weeks, and stayed in many hotels, and none of them have asked me so many questions. Is there a problem?
Her : No, no problem, just doing my job.
This went on much longer, and it was all done via Translator apps. She eventually checked me in.
I thought this may be due to the hotel being in Urumqi, but after 2 nights, I moved to the hotel literally opposite this one (Zhejiang North Hotel) and they literally didn't ask me a single question during check in.
