Beautiful oasis, circa 1923 property with wonderful staff, great location, solid breakfast, and (most importantly) peacocks roaming the property. We stayed in the Juliette room set off to the left of the property and liked the privacy. There were several private experiences for other guests — al Fresca cinema, an engagement proposal with a rose-lined walkway to a giant rose heart in the back courtyard, and a private dinner in the wine cellar. We only had one night but would definitely come back and stay longer.

it was great until i was accused of sneaking in extra guests. my friends were tourists like us and desperately needed to charge their phones to get an uber. The language barrier made it hard to explain to the attendants working and i do not blame them at all calling their boss (Those guys were great btw. they deserve all 5 stars). But the boss who spoke to me in english was somehow less understanding than the men who initially raised the concern. It took almost an hour to finally convince him that the phone charging friends had left the second we were told about situation.
All in all amazing people, but management left me feeling unwelcome

Very recommended if you want to explore Coyoacan friendly environment

I love this hotel! This is my second visit, and I will return. The personal attention is exceptional. This is a unique experience: breakfast in the garden with a guitar player , champagne greeting, strolling peacocks, , friendly employees. The architecture and decor are beautiful. Love it all!

Excellent and beautiful- very unique

Mansion Papilio is so much more than just a convenient place to stay for visiting Coyoacan. The mansion has been beautifully restored, the attention to detail is exquisite. I felt like I was staying in someone’s home. It’s very private and secure. The grounds at the front and the back of the mansion are fabulous too. Everywhere is beautifully maintained. I loved seeing the resident Peaocks and Peahens, which freely roam around the gardens. I received a lovely warm welcome from Beni, who was helpful throughout my stay. Beni also plays the guitar (classical and contemporary) during breakfast. This was such a treat, he is an exceptionally talented musician. I stayed longer at breakfast just to enjoy the music each morning. Anastacio is also great, he was very attentive and provided very high standards of service during breakfast, nothing was too much trouble. Housekeeping do an excellent job too, ensuring everywhere is spotless. I loved my visit to Coyoacan and staying at the mansion made it even more memorable. Thank you to the whole team for making my stay extra special!

Beautiful location. Staff was extraordinary, amazing people. They do a great job. They are trilingual and brilliant. Mansion is pretty. Breakfast is great including fantastic soft a live music - boleros and jazz-
because it is an old mansion they always have maintenance team. I want to suggest that they invest more in eco friendly approach. I strongly recommend it.

A lovely little spot in the heart of Coyoacán. Great service (thank you Martin!) and excellent location. Breakfast in the courtyard among the peacocks and other friendly furry visitors was the highlight.
My only concern was the locks in the door to my hotel room. I was traveling alone as a female and the only lock to my door was a simple push-lock on the door knob that could easily be maneuvered from the outside. I wish there was at least a dead-bolt from the inside for better security. Despite this, everything else was perfect!

First, let me say that we WILL stay here again. The staff was so amazing and we chatted with them about their few downfalls and offered suggestions on how to improve. The staff is so attentive and friendly and "white glove" service. The breakfast included was SO awesome! Traditional Mexican breads and great eggs or chilequiles. A beautiful place with old style rooms and decor, PLUS old style working antiques like phones and record player! Bed was great, plenty of TV stations to watch. The few downfalls (but do not let this deter your stay). We did let them know about these. The room had a few spiders that lingered, if cleared daily it would not be an issue. The bath-tub spa did not have hot water, it was luke warm. The hseet and personal towels etc were clean but the overall place does need some more upkeep. this may be due to construction so we did not let it upset our stay. Lastly there is no room temperature control so if its cold its cold and if its hot its hot. Thsi also makes for "wet" feelings in the room due to dampness BUT AGAIN they are creating more things for guests and they are upgrading so I bet the next time we stay it will be 100% .... and we can not wait to stay here again! Thanks to the staff and the hotel for a great little mid week get-a-way.

The staff was very friendly and professional. There is so much history in this beautiful home. This is a 100yr old property, so keep that in mind. If you love charm and a unique experience, this is definitely a great property to check out. Our favorite were breakfast in the back yard surrounded by beautiful peacocks and a very friendly little cat. The neighborhood is quite busy and the streets are narrow. Inside the property, you can barely hear any noise.

Our stay was a very mixed experience. I'll share the positives and negatives to give the fullest review possible, since the existing reviews for Mansion Papilio are definitely in need of clarifying. Positives: The location is in a wonderful, walkable location near to excellent coffee and local restaurants and bars. The staff on site are very kind, and the food and drink included in the breakfast offerings were tasty. The gardens of the hotel are simple and lovely, featuring many peacocks. The sitting rooms inside the hotel are also well curated. There's also a key code entrance to the gate so you can come and go easily. Negatives: Very bare bones accommodations. There is no central air or heat. No screens on any of the windows, so we were extremely bitten by mosquitos (we hope not bed bugs) during our stay. The room (and our bathroom) we stayed in smelled intensely of sewage the entire stay. There's no welcome guide/information packet, so you have to find staff to ask questions, which can be difficult as there is no front desk or concierge. The door knobs to our room and bathroom fell out of their doors during our stay and didn't really lock ever. The pool is exclusive to the large suite, so you can't use it if you're staying in the main house. Loud private gatherings in the gardens until around midnight most of the nights we stayed, which made it difficult to sleep. The bed sort of caved-in in the middle, and was not a queen that I had booked--it was a full sized mattress.

Great Location

The building has potential, but we encountered a few issues. (1) The light in the toilet was not working the whole time. (2) You needed to get buzzed in rather than having a key - meaning standing in a dark Mexican street at night waiting. (3) breakfast could not be arranged until after 9am. (4) there was no one ever at reception. No one spoke English either. Actually this hotel was very strange as we didn’t see any other guests all three days and there were two staff that seemed to be busy always…?

I liked it. The facility is a mansion brought back to life after being abandoned. The restoration is well in place and the overall accommodation is nice. There are still upgrades being made but these do not affect the ambiance. It is a peaceful place - quiet & private - yet close to the heart of Coayacan. I was there during festival time and it felt good to break off from the crowds and recharge. There are only six rooms so most of the time you have the site to yourself.

This stay was amazing! Unfortunately we were in ans out a lot but it would definitely be a great romantic getaway. The staff was incredible ans very personable. That really was the icing on the cake.

This was my second time in Mexico City and I wanted to stay in Coyoacan area. This hotel grabbed my attention immediately and I’m happy I chose it. I arrived very early (before 7am) and I was happy that the hotel staff was able to help me in. The room and breakfast area are beautiful. The staff is all masked on and the breakfast area are set up outside, so I felt pretty safe. Overall, great experience!

Martin was the main person we checked in with and attended to the house guest to make sure we had everything we needed. He gave us great recommendations for restaurants and things to do in the city. He also gave us a great rate to book one of their chauffeurs, Arturo, to take us to see Teotihuacan. Arturo was amazing, he was patient, incredibly nice, and attended to our every need. Loved the breakfast in the yard every morning and all the amenities they had to offer. I would definitely come back for a longer visit and will recommend it to my family and friends!

I stood at the hotel for 2 days during the corona crisis. It is a place where you can stay perfectly even if you can not go out into the city becausr there is this great garden where you can rest, read, walk around. It is a wonderful and quiet place with a very good service abd friendly people/servants who fulfil your wishes.

We were in awe at first as the mansion is outstanding. However, it didn't have many things listed on the description. We did not get breakfast, odd as it is a B&B. No pool, no robes in the room, and worst, no hot water in the shower or sink. There was a Nespresso machine, but no cups. There is no where to ask questions, but we did have a phone # to call, which we did when leaving to ask what we were to do with the keys. The beautiful area of Coyoacan is walkable from here, but distances listed in description are not accurate.

Basically there is no service. No lobby, no wake up call (asked, but not received). Room frozen during the night if you don't ask for a heather. Nice palace and good location, but it is not a real hotel

This hotel is an hidden gem at the heart of Coyoacan! The property is beautiful, and most importantly, the staff treats you amazingly well. The manager, Martin, does everything to make you feel welcome and happy. I will definitely return when visiting Mexico city.

Our stay at Mason Papilio was amazing. The grounds are beautiful and the room was really nice. It has a fire place, large jacuzzi tub and rainfall shower with a very nice his and hers sink. The service provided was excellent and Martin was very attentive to all of our needs. I would highly recommend this hotel for your stay.

It is a beautiful hotel - very magical and romantic. like staying in the faded grandeur of great Gatsby. The swimming pool was not available but the room was huge and very elegant. The staff did everything they could to make my stay lovely.

Unfortunately this property is not what is advertised. Here are the items that are listed on the website that were not available for our stay:
No bottled water
Pool was not available
No spa services
No designer toiletries (only shampoo & bodywash) in unlabeled refillable containers, Not even tissues
No 24 hour concierge. In fact none at all. No front desk
English is not spoked except by the owner and the finance person
Housekeeping- picked up the used damp towels off the floor and just put them back on the towel rack.
No in room safe (none at all available to us)
No bicycle rental offered
No breakfast available for our stay.
We checked in on Sunday and apparently the staff has off on that day. The grounds keeper and maid assisted us but I don’t speak Spanish so it was difficult. We were awaken at 7:30 on the first morning to construction noise.Upon exiting our room, we found that the furniture in the lobby and sittlng room had been removed and there wer worker redoing the space. The second day we were waken at 6am with people setting. Up the property for a commercial shoot. When we exited our room, there workers everywhere! Note that the owner did apologize for the noise on day one and did cater a dinner for us that was lovely. However, we felt like we were just in the way and really couldn’t wait to leave. I am sure that if we had arrived on another day, and if there had not been a film shoot it would have been a better stay. Unfortunately it was not.

Beautiful old villa!!! Antique furnishings and very unique!! Quiet and luxurious. Highly recommend this property, minutes from the main plaza.

What an enchanted place. The minute we arrived at the Mansion Papilio we were mesmerized by this beautiful villa. Large rooms with windows facing the park to elegant salons provided an atmosphere of 19th century charm. Enrique, the owner and his staff went out of their way to provide us with an extraordinary experience, from serving breakfast in the lavish park by the koi pond to helping us with all questions we had. Also nice to know is that Jardin Centernario is only a short walk away and offers great restaurants and bars with a Coyoacan flavor. I’m still day dreaming about this place. Wonderful, wonderful!

The TV did not work, the light above the sink did not work, dangerous opening window, no reception area to contact, no phone in room to contact reception, very weak shower and you either got very hot or very cold water, beautiful house and grounds and great location, not really a hotel just felt like an unwelcome lodger

Amazing! Great place close to a lot of art galleries, restaurants and bars. The arquitecture around the place is worth it . Beautiful streets amd great atmosphere.
