About this cottage rental
Thomas Chapel was originally built in Watauga county near Tennessee in 1886 . decommissioned in 1967 and then bought in 1977 as a Mother's day gift for a former member of the church . It was taken apart and reassembled in her backyard. Her great grandson later converted the chapel to what is now the comfortable sanctuary located in a private valley on the outskirts of Boone. The church has been turned into a home which boasts a bell tower and 30 foot vaulted ceiling complete with the original hand hewn structural timbers. Nestled in a scenic hollow with a mountain stream and woods on one side and farmland on the other. Half a mile from downtown Boone, this private chapel is conveniently located 1 mile from Appalachian States Campus, and 20 minutes from 2 of the areas finest ski resorts. Come and experience a piece of high country history.

Great place to stay! Absolutely loved the Chapel atmosphere! Stunning ceilings and natural wood accents! Super clean and a great host. Perfect for any celebration spot for couples or a small family! We will be back!

The house was perfect for our family of 4 and the location can not be beat. It's a 2 min drive from downtown Boone. Lots of land for kids to run around and the house itself is unique and comfortable. Would definitely stay again.

We were in Boone (first trip to this area) for a football game and vacation. In planning our trip we searched for “best places to stay in Boone” and this property came up at the top of the list. It did not disappoint!! It is such a unique property. Great location, absolutely immaculate, quiet, beautiful, very comfortable. Large living area, huge bathroom, comfortable bed, lots of attention to detail in the design. Daniel was very helpful with the couple of questions we had. We would definitely stay here again if we travel back to the area!!

The chapel was a most awesome place to stay. So much better than a hotel. The chapel detail is fabulous. Rooms are expansive which make one feel you are at home. Chapel interior is extremely clean with needed tools to prepare breakfast, lunch, or dinner if one chooses. Furniture and bedding is very comfortable with plenty of TV channels. One highlight was seeing deer each night feeding outside the chapel. We hope to return in summer. Well done, Daniel.

This place is one of a kind. The pictures are a great representation of the house but what you don’t see is the cleanliness, attention to detail everywhere, and really nice unique decor. Everything works, there are plenty of electrical and USB plugs, etc. We were very happy with our experience and the property is very close to campus. The host was outstanding too.

The owner did an impressive job renovating this church into a one bedroom house.
What you see in the on-line pictures is what you get.
It was clean, comfortable and well stocked right down to the bread and wine for communion (a nice loaf of bread and sparkling grape juice).
And, despite being located on the main road leaving Boone, it was very peaceful and quiet because of its distance from the highway.
The story behind this VRBO is very sweet.

It was such a unique property with so much history and attention to detail while maintaining the rustic aspect of an old church. As a daughter of a preacher, it was the natural place for us to choose. I’m highly recommend it and am sure this will not be our last stay.

Thomas Chapel is such a special place to stay. Beautifully restored and well-appointed. Close to town, but still feels private and peaceful. We loved the huge windows, deluxe chess setup, and comfortable bed.We enjoyed our time and hope to return.

We had a great stay at the Thomas Chapel House! Daniel was very communicative and so kind. The house is very close to downtown and App State so we were able to explore and it brought back so many memories of when we went to school here. The house was clean and beautiful, and the craftsmanship is amazing!

Working with Daniel was a pleasure. We had asked if we could check in a little early so we could clean up and meet some family for lunch in town. He promptly responded and he said we could, he just needed to check the chapel to make sure that everything was set for our arrival. He texted a little later and said we were good to go. The chapel is beautiful!! Very well appointed kitchen with all new cooking utensils and pots and pans. The bed is very comfortable too. If you do stay here make sure to take time to look up at the ceiling and see the effort it must of took to reconstruct this church. The custom iron pieces that had to be fabricated to help support the building show the attention to detail that Daniel took in rebuilding a part of his family's history.
