This was our second time staying at Morita-sha. It's incredibly peaceful and the staff are so wonderful (we were terribly sad to leave). Our room was spacious and the beds are amazing. We had a shower and sink and mini-fridge in the room and with so few rooms in the Inn the shared toilets (steps away from the rooms) were absolutely fine (and super-duper clean). If you want to want to sit in an amazing Japanese Inn next to a famous temple in extraordinary Japan and watch TV in your room, this is not the place for you!!!

So much more comfortable than typical temple lodging! Located within the perimeter of a Buddhist temple compound, this historic property was fully renovated three years ago, with top quality finishes, fixtures and furnishings.
The team was especially knowledgeable and helpful.
Somewhat remote, but we had a rental car so no problem.
As with previous temple stays, the meals were extremely light, but expertly prepared with locally grown produce.

Excellent location in a very quiet area. Very old building where you could open windows and sleep with fresh air, woken up by birds (or rather the Buddhist’s monastery bells at 6am every morning). Minimalist furnishings and amenities but everything is functional, hygien supplies, tea and coffee in common area, and bottled water in the room.
Low height doorways. My husband is quite tall and he kept forgetting to bow when entering doorways. The rooms are upstairs, and the massive wooden staircase is very steep, with quite high steps. Lugging suitcases downstairs is dangerous. And the leather slippers provided are also slippery.
