Perfectly located close to the center of town. Owners were lovely people, and very accommodating. The food was delicious and the owners knew the best places to go around town. The location and staff super helpful and made the trip amazing.
It was a little warm, but I went for the authentic experience, so it was exactly what I wanted. Overall I could not complain. It was away from the hustle and bustle of the big cities like Tokyo and Kyoto.

The stay exceeded all of my expectations and convinced me to only stay at ryokans for the rest of my travels in Japan. I arrived late, around 10pm and the host surprised me by waiting and the bus station and walking me to the ryokan. The ryokan is in the perfect location, it’s walkable to absolutely everything in Kusatsu and half the price of the larger lodging options on the same area. I was a little nervous about the traditional shikibuton (floor bed) but it was so comfortable! I slept fantastic each night and ate some of the best meals of my life at this ryokan! Not only did I have a traditional Japanese stay, I also enjoyed chef quality meals both mornings. Although the ryokan does not have its own onsen, I was provided with a free ticket to visit three of the most beautiful onsen in town. Would stay here again and recommend to everyone.
The property has no shower or bath option, you’re required to bathe at a local onsen. That said, it added to the charm of the town.
