Kick back at the Cozy House Retreat! Built in the 1920s and renovated for modern comfort in 2024, this character-filled home is the perfect base for your coastal adventures. Nestled in a quiet, established residential neighborhood, you are just a short drive from the Lake Michigan public beach at Washington Park and the Indiana Dunes. Explore everything the south shore has to offer, then step inside to a beautifully restored, warm interior designed to make you feel deeply cared for. 💙
While the traditional residential neighborhood offers an authentic, down-to-earth slice of local life, the inside of this historic 1920s home is a private, fully updated oasis. Guests will enjoy a thoughtful blend of vintage character and modern convenience, featuring tasteful contemporary furnishings, premium finishes, and an abundance of cozy amenities so you truly want for nothing during your stay.
The social layout boasts an open-concept dining and living room, making it the perfect space for 2–4 adults to connect. Rest easy after a day of exploring with comfortable new mattresses paired with plush down-alternative comforters in the winter or lightweight, airy quilts in the summer.
☕ The Cozy House Coffee & Tea Bar:Wake up refreshed and indulge in a fully stocked, complimentary coffee and tea station. Complete with an assortment of flavored syrups and flavored creamers, it is the perfect thoughtful touch to fuel your morning before heading to the beach or hitting the road.
Please note property details: Guests enjoy exclusive, 100% private use of the entire main floor, the front porch, and the full yard. I stay in the separate lower level suite downstairs intermittently when I am not traveling. I value your total privacy above all else—my space features its own entirely separate entrance accessed via a private walkway on the opposite side of the house. Our paths will not cross, leaving the main entrance, porch, and the entire outdoor yard completely private for your stay.
*Interior Space: The entire first floor is exclusively yours and includes a spacious living room, open-concept dining area, fully equipped kitchen, full bathroom, and 2 private bedrooms.
*Outdoor Spaces: Exclusive use of the front porch and the entire yard.
*Parking: Free street parking is directly in front of the home and may be shared with neighbors, or on the grass along the Elm Street fence line.

Loved our stay! Only thing I scored 4 was because it’s even better than the pictures! There’s a cozy outdoor seating, beautiful bookshelves completely stocked full and cute bedding in the rooms. The beds are so comfortable and the new appliances in the kitchen were lovely! Worked great for our antiquing trip to Michigan City.

The house itself was nicely decorated and stocked. We ran into some issues such as the a/c not staying on, the floors squeaking loudly with each step (not ideal when you’re trying to put a one year old down) and the fence being half down (still being built) -which was not something we loved being in the side of town we were, but oh well what can you do. The location was close to a lot of activities, but was in a run down area with noisy neighbors. The “low” cleaning fee seems like a plus but be aware you’ll get a 2 hour warning the morning of checkout to have everything cleaned and washed down (basically as you found it they said) or you’ll get charged more. Luckily we packed the night before and had time to clean the dishes (no dishwasher) to avoid a late checkout fee. Probably wouldn’t stay here again but it worked for what we needed at the time and was clean and had comfortable beds and bathroom.
