Great location, but poor hosting and maintenance issues
The apartment offers good value for money and is well located in a lovely neighborhood. The area is peaceful but still has plenty of bars, restaurants, and shops nearby. Public transport is very convenient, with a tram stop right outside and the metro about a 10-minute walk away.
The apartment itself is cozy, somewhat clean, with plenty of space to hang clothes, which is something many other apartments lack.
Unfortunately, several things negatively impacted our stay.
First, the fridge wasn't working and had a horrible smell with some brown liquid inside that was disgusting. There was also a very unpleasant smell coming from underneath the kitchen sink (where the trash can was located).
The temperature throughout the apartment was inconsistent, with noticeable differences between the bedroom, kitchen, and bathroom. - it's not a red flag, just had to point out for someone who has a baby.
Additionally, the bedroom window had no curtain, making the room extremely bright early in the morning.
However, the most disappointing part was the communication with the host and the late check-in policy.
We specifically booked this apartment because it advertised self-check-in as we were coming in around 9pm. Also, the late check in policy, is buried in the description below, that rarely someone will catch it. Who charges a late fee for self check in?
Unfortunately, we were stuck at passport control for three hours, which was completely outside our control. Instead of being happy to be in Milan, we had to pay €15 for arriving late, with the potential of paying 50 euros if we were to check in at 12am, which again was NOT in our control.
What made this particularly frustrating was that the check-in process was entirely self-service, using access codes and a key box. There was no physical check-in or need for anyone to meet us. I asked the host three times why a late arrival fee was necessary under these circumstances, but never received a response. Instead, I was simply sent a separate Stripe payment link.
This added completely unnecessary stress to the beginning of our trip, especially after an already exhausting delay at the airport. The whole reason we chose this accommodation was the flexibility of self-check-in, so being penalized for arriving late made absolutely no sense.
We also requested a slightly later checkout at 10:30 AM but received no response whatsoever.
