The Neighborhood:
Polanco is home to the main museums (the Anthropology Museum, the Tamayo Museum or the Museum of Modern Art, the Siqueiros Museum) and represents the protection and pride of Mexico.
Polanco is one of the most sought-after residential areas in Mexico City. Established on what in the 16th century was the land of the Hacienda de Los Morales (the Hacienda house was completed in 1647 and today houses an excellent Mexican restaurant and event center), a property dedicated to growing blackberries to feed silkworms. Polanco was initially developed in the 1920s as an area where houses with the traditional “Californian Colonial” style predominated, which can still be seen in many of the “listed” buildings (cultural heritage) in this area.
Its prime location next to Chapultepec Park and the city's main avenues such as Reforma or Mazaryk (the Mexican Rodeo Drive) makes comparisons with residential areas in New York around Central Park, the 16th arrondissement of Paris near the Champs Elysees or the Paseo de la Castellana in Madrid inevitable. It is also close to other areas such as the Reforma-Lomas Corridor, home to the corporate offices of large multinational companies.
A cosmopolitan area par excellence, it always retains a deeply Mexican flavor and is the place to see and be seen. In addition to Chapultepec, there are other areas of great activity and beauty, such as Lincoln Park (also known as the Park of Mirrors, the Clock Park or simply Polanco Park) with its many cafes and restaurants in the area known as Polanquito; Uruguay Park with its century-old trees or avenues such as Rubén Darío, Campos Elíseos or Horacio with boulevards where the green of the trees or the lilac of the jacarandas in season contribute to the aesthetics of the area.
In more recent years, the development of luxury apartment buildings and commercial areas in Polanco has been very popular. Today, traditional families, a growing community of foreign executives and young independent professionals coexist here alongside corporate headquarters of large companies; Embassies and Consulates; art galleries, international schools; the most exclusive boutiques; cafes and restaurants with all kinds of food for every taste and budget (including excellent taco shops and two of the top 50 restaurants in the world); supermarkets; banks; gyms and yoga studios; medical offices; hospitals; and a short distance away one of the most important shopping centers in the city, which has VIP movie theaters and all kinds of boutiques. Also within walking distance are the National Auditorium and other theaters and entertainment centers, multiple Museums such as the Museum of Anthropology and History, the Museum of Modern Art or the Tamayo Museum.
