The last 4 miles of the drive are off-road. The first 2 miles are maintained county dirt roads. The last 2 miles are unmaintained and can be bumpy, muddy, snowy, or washboard depending on conditions. AWD or 4WD is required year-round. There is a shaded section near the caboose where snow lingers.

You have two spaces. The restored caboose is the heart — a genuine 1800s railroad caboose with big windows, a wood-burning cast iron pot belly stove, queen bed, and an RV-style composting toilet with running water. It's cozy, intimate, and unlike anything else. The depot is a full cabin right next door with a normal bathroom, shower, full kitchen, living area with sofa bed, and second bedroom with a full bed. This is where you'll cook, gather, and have modern conveniences. The two buildings share one off-grid power system (with backup generators) and Starlink WiFi.

Both spaces are intentional, not fancy. The floors are uneven in places. The caboose heats via wood stove (you'll feed it). The depot has the same. You're at 9,880 feet in a remote mountain setting. Weather changes fast. Wind is real. This is not a hotel — it's a backcountry experience with running water and electricity.

OUTDOOR LIVING
The depot deck is where outdoor life happens. Ammo-can firepit (great photos in gallery), Adirondack chairs, picnic table, and outdoor games.
The view is the star: panoramic Rocky Mountains in every direction. Echo Mountain Ski Area is visible to the south. The deck faces east, so sunrises here are the moment you'll remember when you're back home.
High likelihood you will not see another person while you're here. The 4-mile off-road approach means zero foot traffic. Complete privacy.
Hiking, off-roading, and forest access start at your door. Arapaho National Forest is everywhere.

🚙 Access:
The caboose is reached by a 2-mile off-road mountain trail. AWD or 4WD is required for every vehicle, year-round, no exceptions. Mountain road conditions can change quickly, and the right vehicle is essential for a safe arrival.

⚡ Power:
The Caboose runs entirely on an off-grid power system. Guests should be mindful of electricity use and avoid running multiple high-draw appliances simultaneously. On rare occasions, the backup generator may need to be activated — it's a simple switch, and we're happy to walk you through it if needed.

🏔️ Altitude:
The cabin sits at nearly 10,000 feet. Guests who are sensitive to altitude should take it easy the first day and stay hydrated.
