Location, location, location! You can easily walk to UC Berkeley (or use nearby bus or BART to get around to nearby communities in addition to SF). It is very close to many good restaurants and cafés. A nice café is in the hotel lobby area that is open mornings and early afternoons. There's also a major grocery store next door where you can purchase food and drink to-go. Many of the rooms have a little balcony with table and chairs for cozy dining for two people. I believe all the rooms have mini-fridge, microwave, and water boiler. For ice, there's a bucket in the room you can take to the desk staff and that person will fill it for you.
For those who drive here in their own vehicle, the biggest loss for this hotel was losing its access to a parking lot next door that is now chained off by its new owner. Parking is a huge problem in Berkeley and you need to keep an eye on your parking meter and/or note the various City restrictions, such as street-sweeping days.

The location is very convenient to BART, the UC Berkeley campus, grocery stores, and restaurants. The room was spacious, and the bed was comfortable. Our room had windows on Shattuck Avenue, which we liked, but some might find it too noisy. We liked having the AC at night so that we could close the windows.
There is no parking lot, but luckily we have a resident friend who was able to get us a guest parking permit in the neighborhood. There were a few quirky things about the room, like none of the clocks were set correctly and the shower configuration allowed water to get on the floor if you weren't careful. Wifi availability was also sporadic in our room.
