I loved it

There was free coffee. There was not free breakfast. The location is central to wonderful restaurants and backs up to a nice neighborhood with overnight fee parking. Shares a side of building with a grocery store, but was quiet overnight. Breakfast pastries looked good. I love Cheeseboard Collective next door. I will stay again. Nice microwave and mini fridge. Shower was modern and large. Spacious room that was well decorated. They’re doing the most with what they’ve got. Not a new Hyatt in Emeryville, so if that’s your heart’s desire, enjoy that. This hotel is perfect for my preferences.

The hotel was vacant, so a single female would be slightly safer on a higher floor. I was given 102.

Flew in for the weekend to see our friends show for a first time in Berkeley

Perfect location right on Shattuck ! Many great places to eat and visit by walking just a few steps. Gourmet Market next door, Safeway and CVS right up the street .We ate at Saul’s Deli twice ( and took pastries home ) and had an amazing dinner at LoCocos authentic Sicilian. The room was very well appointed and had a cute little private terrace. Top notch toiletries and bathrobes , bedding, iron, hairdryer… well thought out. Coffee shop served top notch cappuccino ( Sono Italiano) in cozy Bohemian atmosphere with History of modern art / impressionist theme. Worth the little extra cost to have the boutique experience; don’t hesitate or even think about staying down near the marina area just saying this is the better neighborhood.

No complaints totally met or exceeded our expectations; good job management and staff!

The location is great! Really close to good restaurants and public transit.

The lights from the grocery parking lot were a bit bright, but no other complaints!

Great location, but wouldn’t stay again.

Perfect location! Good free coffee. Comfortable bed.

Electricity was off partially, took 2 days to fix. Room didn’t get cleaned one day. Room was smaller than advertised. Small balcony faced grocery store parking lot. Staff seemed a bit clueless, not very responsive as far as customer service.

Great location and amenities, nice staff and felt "very Berkeley" even though summer break.

Great location! Free cup of coffee each morning in the bistro on first floor. In the same block as Cheeseboard with amazing daily pizza and bakery - not to be missed! Delightful little balcony and microwave and refrig, even with plates and silverware. Very good bathroom and room was comfortable with plenty of space to put suitcases, hang up clothes and spread out for those of us who have been living out of a suitcase for a couple of weeks. This was our second stay here and I am sure there will be more. FYI parking was $8 in the parking lot right next door,

Management please wake up!

Location is very good, has every potential to be a charming little inn. The young lady who checked us in was quite lovely !

This is a place I did not wish to leave a bad review , however I feel the hotel was terribly mismanaged, we were there for 5 nights and the bed was made only once! Even when we use the make up room door hang. There was also workers changing the carpets in the corridor, not only were they noisy , that’s ok, they opened our room door without knocking, gave us a terrible fright! When we went to close the door and was told to keep it open! So if we weren’t there, how do we know how safe is this hotel !? All it would have taken was for management to leave us a note to say there will be work done in the corridor and workers may have to enter our rooms … we could have been prepared for that! Housekeeping also tried to enter the room at 9am without knocking, asked to come back later and never came back ! The place though clean just have a feeling of lack of care the wiring for the lights are a mess, they don’t stay on….

For one night, we were very comfortable and glad to be there.

Comfort. Clearly the staff was thoughtful.

The bathroom sink in Room 103 is not draining. The temperature was extremely difficult to arrange/change. This was very uncomfortable and disconcerting.

Pretty good hotel, met my basic needs

Bed was comfortable

Didn’t like the shower toiletries or the bathroom, didn’t like the location of the rooms in relation to the cafe that was down the hall

Location was excellent. The staff was courteous.

It was not very clean in fact there was a fabric chair full stains. Also the floors and rugs were dirty. It didn't look like a 3 stars hotel.

Location! Helpful staff. Adjacent parking at a reasonable rate with no damage to car.

Seemed like some things could be handled more efficiently as people have said. Could have card reader to open locked door. Parking permit had to be written out by staff every day and paid for online every day. Couldn't get heat to work in room but was moved to a room that worked. Would like coffee maker in room but coffee from downstairs was good.

Superb

It’s a very nice room. I liked the little patio area although we never went out there. The coffee was excellent, better than in room coffee even if you have to put your clothes on to get it! It was different, having to ring the bell to get someone to let us in in the evening, but they came rapidly and it was no hassle at all

It’s a minor thing, but we were told to park in the bank of America lot and the Bank of America is no longer open so we weren’t sure where we should go at first. It was easy to use however.

Avoid the cafe bistro.

The bistro owner where the free coffee is given and ice for ice buckets is dispensed was rude and cranky twice during our two interactions. Very disappointing. The rest of the check in staff and cleaning staff were great, helpful and friendly.

the best location, amazing staff, and very clean.

the walls are quite thin so even with earplugs you can hear almost everything. between the cleaners and neighbors, the morning wasn't very relaxing.

Convenient location, knowledgeable staff, comfortable room, and delightful smell of coffee all day.

Room was a little cramped but manageable. Parking and hotel access was complicated but staff assistance was very good.

Loved the location, the much-needed upgrade to the old French Hotel, and the enclosed balcony! Room was well-appointed and the bed was comfortable.

A little on the expensive side compared to comparable hotels.
