The host was lovely and welcomed us in even though we arrived late. She also prepared some homemade cakes for our breakfast the next day. Although dated, the accommodation was cozy and clean and had an authentic feel to it. This was the perfect place to stay to start our Kumano Kodo hike.
Nothing, we really enjoyed our stay.

This is a real traditional, old, Japanese house. With only 2 rooms, rice paper walls, sliding doors and a small garden, this is the real deal. Now, be aware that do to the construction of such a house, you may hear the people in the room next door and their light will create a glow in your room, but that is exactly what an old traditional Japanese is. I loved it and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for an authentic experience. The host, who doesn't stay on the premises overnight, made a huge effort to explain everything to me with the little of English she knows. As the place is a cafe during the day, she baked the cakes in the evening and the house smell so good when I came back after dinner. The bathroom and anemities are not fancy because they are traditional/authentic. If you are looking for a flashy or luxurious ryokan, this isn't the right place, but if you are looking for the real deal, this is the right place!

The lovely lady greeted us with the most thorough walk through I have ever experienced. The breakfast cake was the most soft and spongy I have ever had! This was a bargain for the price.
