The house was listed in the Historic American Buildings survey in 1934, the first Tuscaloosa home to earn this distinction. This house is vital to American and local history because of the many prominent inhabitants of the home over the centuries. The house was originally built by James Jenkins in 1822 as a two-room cabin. David Scott, a prominent merchant and church leader, added on to the house in 1832. From there the Burwell Boykin Lewis family occupied the residence from 1886. The president of the University of Alabama’s daughter and widow of a U.S. Congressman lived in the house until the turn of the century. This is a roomy comfortable 4 bedroom, 3 bath home which includes a formal dining room, updated kitchen, family room, sunroom, and formal parlor. The finished basement is a unique space with a walk-in fireplace, bar and TV room. The 3rd-floor bedroom runs the length of the top floor. There are two full bathrooms. The house is furnished with period antiques and soft upholstered pieces. There are awesome large outdoor porches and a big yard for entertaining. This home is perfect for a family or larger group. There are 3 large flat screen TV’s, WiFi and a completely fenced yard.

Great home, wonderful owner. Our entire group was thrilled and we all had a fantastic time. Location is close to stadium but not in the middle of all the traffic. Close to downtown and campus. So easy to get to and just the very best of all worlds.

Our Family stayed in this Beautiful Antebellum Home for our son's graduation from the University of Alabama. We were greeted by Cindy when we arrived, she had placed a "Welcome Socinski Family" sign on the front porch( very nice touch), walked us through the home briefly, and was very pleasant and prompt with answering calls we made to her with any questions throughout our stay. This home is loaded with all the accommodations and amenities you need to feel at home! Fully stocked kitchen, including an amazing counter top ice maker, updated appliances, and a large beautiful white marble bar height island that was perfect for breakfast and dinner gatherings. Lots of room and privacy for larger families or groups. We have rented homes, condos, and hotel rooms for the last four years in Tuscaloosa for Football games (of course), and visits with our son. This LOCATION IS THE BEST!!! Walking distance to downtown restaurants( 5 minute walk), stores, and the stadium(10 minute walk)! Very nice and quiet neighborhood, gorgeous large back porch with an amazing fenced in yard including a fountain, fire table, furniture, and a gas grill if needed. TV's galore! The kitchen, formal dining room, living room, finished basement with full bar,and all bedrooms except the 3rd floor bedrooms have Tv's. Excellent WiFi! Plenty of plush white bath towels and linens. Check out requirements were non-stressful and simple compared to other rentals in the area. We would HIGHLY recommend this spacious historical home! Thank you Cindy!! Sarah and David Socinski

My California born and raised daughter now calls the University of Alabama her “Sweet Home.” As such, we needed to find a sweet home for Parent’s Weekend. We could not have made a better selection! This amazing property was the perfect location to bring our family together with some Alabama friends for an amazing weekend. When you drive up to the property – you will find yourself saying “Wow!” From the massive American flags celebrating our nation to the pure antebellum aesthetic so masterfully maintained – this house is steeped in pure Southern tradition and pride. The pictures hardly do it justice. Inside you find the perfect blend of old and new fitting this property. We had a family barbeque and great conversation out on the back porch – while catching multiple football games on the TVs throughout the home. Whether you bring some food back from a local restaurant or cook yourself (we did both) – the kitchen is well equipped for whatever you may have in mind. Plenty of sleeping options for your group with multiple bed configurations - including a cool basement with a sleeper sofa that attracted the kids. WiFi, while almost out of place in this historic home, worked well and kept my phone addicted children happy. When it came time to watch the Crimson Tide unleash on their opponent – we simply walked the few blocks to the stadium. The location it perfect for anything associated with the University. Given this is her first year – I’m sure we will be back!
