Located in South Bristol, this charming condo for $140 per night is a great choice for your next trip. This large studio space is located on a private road in South Bristol. High ceilings with many windows and skylights, this space has a feeling of peace, privacy and spaciousness. Queen sized bed, washer/dryer, full kitchen facilities, as well as a fully equipped artist's studio. Perfect for artists and writers or anyone wanting a retreat space. A 2 minute walk through the woods takes you to the Damariscotta River and deep water access to the beauty of Maine's waters. Close to beaches, restaurants and shopping. A small cabin behind the studio building is available as another bedroom for guests or as a music or writing room. Nearby attractions include a beach, a lighthouse, movie theater, gift stores, cafes, a bookstore, and a health food store that is "better than Whole Foods". This apartment is available for rent all year. I rent by the week in July, August and September. All other months by the day - 2 night minimum.

I had an absolutely wonderful time, the apartment was spotless and had everything I could have asked for - Joy is a superb host! Great location, great light and overall very conducive to working on any sort of creative project.

Enjoyed our stay. Great art supplies available. A little out of town but well worth the drive. Joy was very helpful with our late arrival by leaving a light on. Joy also gave great directions with availability of grocery stores. Summer her must be off the chart.

This studio of a working artist is clean, roomy
This is our second stay in this bright, roomy treehouse-like studio. It is quiet and peaceful and Joy is a thoughtful host. We appreciated the bucket of birdseed for the feeders on the porch. The birds gave us quite a show. We will be back.

Clean and bright. Watched birds, turkeys and little red squirrels. Restaurants were a little hard to find due to time of year. We enjoyed it.

Comfortable studio loft very close to many hiking trails, several lobster co-ops, Pemaquid lighthouse, and the quaint towns of Damariscotta and Boothbay Harbor. Very pet friendly. Well stocked kitchen. We and the dogs enjoyed watching the birds, squirrels and chipmunks, and the short walk to the river. The main road nearby was a bit noisy at times due to roadwork one day, but it wasn’t terrible.

It rained the whole time we were here but didn’t affect our stay at all as there was plenty to do! The space is so spacious and we loved the tall ceilings and art.

Quiet, plentiful natural light, neat, organized, clean and spacious and our springledoodle was welcome so say no more! And yet, at a short walking distance you can sit and enjoy the sunset, perfect place. It had all we needed and more. Highly recommended it!

Joy, the owner, was a pleasure to meet and work with. The apartment/loft was the best appointed place I have ever stayed and was a great location for me to explore all of the nooks and crannies of that part of the Maine coastline. If I travel back to the area, I would definitely stay again.

I couldn't be happier with my time at this place. Between being right by the water and the space itself being very conducive to art and writing, it was really the ideal retreat. The host was always available to answer any questions as well and even made the generous offer of staying an extra night when the day of my departure was a snowy mess. Thanks again!

From the moment we entered the studio, I knew it was going to be wonderful fit for my husband and I and our dog. We celebrated Thanksgiving weekend in the beautifully decorated studio and enjoyed every minute. Joy was the perfect host, keeping us informed and reaching out if we needed her. The place is immaculate and has everything and anything you would ever need! We went down by the river and sat on the bench to be entertained by the harbor seals! It was so comfortable on a rainy morning enjoying our coffee and taking in the tranquility. There is plenty to do if you are inclined to draw, craft, or paint. We will definitely be back and look forward to enjoying this beautiful oasis again! Thanks so much Joy!

Joy's studio is full of creativity and calm. A perfect place to just be.
The cove down the street is remarkably beautiful.
And Joy thought of everything: coverings for the furniture "if the dogs are inclined to get on it" (not telling us to not let the dogs on the furniture!:)) and a bright orange fleece to wear because it was hunting season.
One thing to know for those who are sensitive: the water has a bit of a sulfur edge to it.
Other than that, perfection!

Great location away from busy Boothbay Harbor. Pemaquid Point is a favorite spot for us so this was ideal. Joy’s apt was unique and comfortable. Would recommend!

This was our first VRBO experience and it was a good experience. It felt very much like home, had everything we needed and it was very quiet. She also provided lots of art supplies but having no talent in that area we didn’t use them. An artist would have loved this feature!

This is a delightful cottage in South Bristol. Joy has thought of every detail to make you feel at home in this studio wooded retreat. The cottage is filled with natural light with plenty of windows to allow fresh air to circulate plus a vaulted ceiling creates a sense of spaciousness. The bed and sheets are incredibly comfortable and provide an excellent night's sleep. The kitchen is fully stocked with high quality equipment, pots/pans, coffee maker, toaster oven, microwave, every utensil you can think of. There is a darling deck with table and chairs from which we enjoyed breakfast each morning and star-gazing each night. Parking is available in the garage. There is even a fire pit (wood provided) and chairs if you want to sit by the fire or make s'mores. There is a lovely short trail through the forest to reach the banks of Long Cove and a bench to rest on while you enjoy the view. It is important to note that this cottage is otherwise not walkable to any destination unless you walk on the busy main road (no shoulder or space to walk along this heavily-traveled road so not safe, IMO). If you are looking for a charming, comfortable and secluded retreat, this is the place for you!

Joy's Cottage was just delightful. More than we expected. Most rentals listed in Maine that we looked at were too rustic with few amenities. We wanted nature and all the beauty associated but clean, upgraded, and having all the necessary items to cook, stay connected and relax. Joy has accomplished all this with her artist Cottage. Just a short walk to the cove and you are next to the water. Seals resting on the rocks and swimming about. This place is so relaxing you feel lifes stress just melt away. Joy herself is an amazing person who exemplifies independence, humility and grace. We will be back again!

Joy’s studio is a bright and airy room that is spacious and well-equipped. The kitchen area has plenty of equipment for cooking, dinnerware, and utensils. Lots of good lighting for reading, drawing, and painting, a comfy bed, and the water down the road made this an ideal rental.

Our stay here surpassed our expectations. The studio was so pretty and light and well-furnished, and we lacked nothing while there. The area as well was our favorite for the four days we were exploring it. We came right before tourist season, in mid-May, so some of the restaurants and stores weren’t open for the summer yet. This didn’t bother us too much but something to keep in mind.
Joy was a generous host and I thought it was so cool that there were art supplies available for us to use.
I would classify our stay here as the best vacation I’ve been on.

Fun little studio, no really, it's an artist's studio. Light, airy, quiet with a short walk to the water to sit on the oceanfront bench and watch the sunset. Wished I could have seen the ocean from the front porch but the Maine woods was an awesome view too.

Everything went smoothly with our rental. The owner is on hand and happy to help with any questions. The unique second-floor space, clean and sunlit, has all the comforts but is also a working (but odor-free) art studio; we found it inspiring. Numerous woods-walks and hikes are just minutes away, and all the rough beauty of the Maine coastline.

Start to finish we had a great experience. Everything (plus more) was as advertised. We did not take advantage of the art studio but what a great addition. The space was well appointed with a lovely kitchen, small bathroom, sitting area and bed area. Bright and cozy. Our pup was welcomed and enjoyed her visit. We loved walking down to the water and watching the birds and seals. Those looking for some added adventure can scramble down the rocks at low tide and check out the tide pools.
Convenient to hiking trails, historical sites, beaches and rocky coves; this is a fantastic place to stay. We will be back!

My wife and I were looking for a place to escape the city and get offline. We were looking for a quiet place to make some art and cook meals and we hit the jackpot. The studio is a comfortable and light-filled gem, with high ceilings and a simple peace. It’s stocked with every art material you can imagine and a great kitchen to boot. The wooded surroundings are beautiful and we sat on the bench overlooking the sound just watching the seals play, it was unforgettable. We’re so grateful for the time we had here.

A fellow artist and I spent three winter days in Joy's lovely studio/apartment. It was a perfect getaway for two old friends who longed to come together - escaping from our own daily routine for a few days to make art side by side, and enjoy each other's company. Joy's generous gift of allowing her guests to partake in the use of her materials and tools is unusual and so much fun. The light pouring in to this beautiful space makes it the perfect studio space in any season.
We enjoyed walking the property to the water's edge and also along a nearby nature preserve trail through the woods.
We left with plans to return together in the summer - so we can end each art making day with a glass of wine on that bench by the water!

Such a special and well cared for experience. Joy really goes out of her way to make guests feel cared for and comfortable (she’s a treasure). The spaces is beautiful, light filled, well-appointed, clean, comfortable. The deck is a great way to access the outside (so many birds!), as is the lovely little path down to the waterfront bench. Joy is available but not intrusive, very responsive and kind.
The main feeling is of being in the woods, comfortable, cozy and spacious at the same time. It holds the possibility, but not demand, for creative process.
We were concerned about the traffic noises at the start, but that really faded into the background, and can’t be heard at all, when the windows are closed (terrific climate control & comfort, too).
The area is great, if you’re mainly looking for quiet, for many beautiful, shorter hikes, kayaking out to island hikes and swims (the local conservation group, Costal Rivers Conservation Trust, maintains gorgeous and well marked trails all over), osprey, eagle and seal watching, reading and settling down. There are delicious food options not far away, including Broad Arrow Farm for supplies and occasional events, the Fishermen’s Cooperative for dock lunches and seafood for home, and many more. Everything does close down early, or has limited hours, so a little preparation is a useful thing.
We would absolutely return, and are so grateful for the refuge, badly needed, that was provided by our generous host.
