Sehr liebevoll gestaltetes Hostel mit einem netten und unkomplizierten jungen Eigentümer, der aufgrund seiner Herkunft (Kanada) englisch und französisch (aber auch spanisch) spricht. Großer Gemeinschaftsbereich mit Küche, Sitzecken über 3 Terrassen sowie Billardtisch. Von dort hat man einen sehr schönen Blick auf die Bucht. Daher muss man etwas den Berg hoch laufen (in 5 bis 10 min ist man in der Stadt und am Strand). Der Weg ist auch nach Einbruch der Dunkelheit sicher.
Guter Wäscheservice! Kühlschrank mit Bier und Softdrinks (Strichliste). Die Zimmer sind großzügig gestaltet, überhaupt gibt es viel Platz, so dass das Hostal nur 7 Zimmer hat und daher schnell ausgebucht ist.
Bestes Frühstück ever!!! 😋 Es ist vegetarisch. Es wird auf aber auf Ernährungsweisen eingegangen.
Es ist ruhig gelegen.
Es fehlt in den Zimmern eine Möglichkeit nasse Handtücher und Badekleidung aufzuhängen.
Die Gemeinschaftsbereiche sind barfuß Bereiche. Die Idee ist grundsätzlich schön. Aufgrund der offenen Bauweise und des Windes kommt trotz täglicher Reinigung Staub und Dreck rein, so dass die Füße anschließend dreckig sind und man den Schmutz ins Zimmer trägt. Meine Schuhe waren jedenfalls sauberer als meine Füße danach.

Guesthouse située à 5 mn à pied du centre dans une petite rue légèrement en pente. Vraiment pas difficile à atteindre. Elle est tenue par des nouveaux propriétaires Canadiens charmants. J'ai été reçu par le fils Charlie, très gentil. Ma chambre était déjà prête à 13:00 et j'ai donc pu y accéder tout de suite .
Cette chambre est large avec un grand lit, ventilateur, moustiquaires aux fenêtres et une vue magnifique. Tout est en bois, murs et sol.
Salle de bains grande, eau chaude.
Espaces communs très agréables avec sofas, hamacs, cuisine à disposition. Tout est très propre.
Rapport qualité prix excellent. Vraiment cette guesthouse est à recommander. J 'y serais volontiers resté plusieurs jours s'il y avait eu des chambres disponibles. Petit déjeuner inclus qui change tous les jours.
Charlie peut donner des conseils et aussi trouver rapidement un taxi à prix raisonnable.

We loved our stay at Buena Onda! We stayed for a week and appreciated that it was relatively quiet at night, had a great view in the morning, had new and interesting breakfast every day, and had a full kitchen that we used to cook a couple meals at the hostel. The new managers were so helpful with all of our needs, gave us great recommendations (food, surf instructor, etc.) and we met several other interesting travelers there too. It was also great having breakfast with other guests in the common area and allowed for everyone to get to know each other. We also instantly adored their two sweet dogs Bonnie and Max. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Magic place with a beautiful seaview. The common área is really relaxed and beautiful with hammocks and Nice chairs.

The host Baba was fantastic. The minute we checked in, he showed us a map and marked out lots nearby..He even organised our taxis to airport. The breakfast was delicious every morning. The view was stunning from the property. Close walk to town. Would highly recommend!

Lots of cute cats at the hostel but unfortunately this meant cat hair everywhere :( including in my breakfast lol all over the kitchen counter tops, beds etc which gave it a bit of a grimy feel overall if you wanted to cook in the kitchen

Very beautifull hotel, situated at the edge of San Juan del Sur, 5 minutes walk to downtown but in a quite and green neigborhood.
Especially the breakfast was delicious and the view simply amazing. Guest can use the kitchen and cold drinks are available.
I can highly recommend this place, to everybody!

Very nice hosts, with an amazing view over the San Juan del Sur Beach. We received the best breakfast ever. Very delicious and always very fresh.
There were some problems with cockroaches but the owner was working on solving it.

The view from the balcony was amazing, best spot to be for sunset. The room I booked had an incredible view through the window and I loved the zen vibe of the place. The hammocks are really comfortable. I felt like a lot of love went into the breakfasts each morning, it was always lovely. The owner was really helpful and gave some great advice on places around town. The noise in the neighbourhood was lively, but didn't interrupt my sleep, earplugs were provided but I never needed them.

Great location, a very short walk up to edge of town where the hills begin. Beautifully designed terraced architecture to give wonderful breezy view of the bay. The owner, who is french but with the charming nickname of "Baba", is very friendly and helpful. I felt very welcome and right at home. Quiet but nice social atmosphere as well. Small breakfast but delicious and made with care. The right size for me since I don't like to over-eat in the morning. Excellent coffee included. Room and washroom clean and pleasant, King bed large and comfortable. Shared kitchen, nominal charge for beer, water, and sodas. Pool table as well. Can't say enough good things really!
Unfortunately, through no fault of the owner, the roosters and dogs party all night, so ear-plugs will help of which Baba gave me a pair. I think it would be helpful if people would train and socialize their dogs properly, like we have back home with dog parks and walks, but they are kept as guard dogs, so also stay outside all night instead of being brought inside. I guess you can't train a rooster though! Is this part of the charm of these countries? you decide!

- breakfast is every day different and a suprise. There is no option to choose between things. If it's not your taste you can't get something else.
- everything was really clean. But during our stay there was no room cleaning. Wich we missed, as you need to trow toilet paper in a bin and it never got cleaned out during our 4 night stay.
- We had a weird contact with the owner, who lives in the property as well. He has some principles, wich we totally understood but it was the way how he communicated..

To get these views, you have to walk a bit out of town and up a hill. Which was hot at times. It was also quite hot in the room.

The view over San Juan del Sur und the sea was great, there were plenty of places to chill and the bed was big and comfy. The kitchen was also well equipped. The staff was very kind and helpful and the included breakfast was a dream!
In the bathroom were a lot of ants and once even cockroachs.

Buena Onda is definitely one of the best places we have stayed. The room we had was very nice, spacious and quiet at night. The communal area is super relaxing with an amazing view over the bay. The kitchen is well equipped too and nice to cook in with the view.
Finally the best thing about this place is the breakfast! It changes slightly everyday and the days we were there it was amazing.
Highly recommend staying here. We could have stayed a lot longer.

I loved staying here with my husband. Baba was the most amazing host! As soon as we arrived we were greeted with warmth and kindness. This is honestly one of the best places we have stayed in 3 months of staying in central America

the best hostel we’ve stayed in after 6 weeks in Central America! such good value for money, beautiful rooms (we had one of the top ones with a view over the sea), amazing breakfast, lovely staff, beautiful views of the town and of the sunsets!!
also the location is really quite central - probably 5 minutes away from the main square. it’s not in a touristy area but we thought that just made it nicer! also lots of lovely cats and dogs around.
the local animals do bark quite a lot, but it never stopped us sleeping or woke us up!
only thing (not to do with the hostel) is it probably is worth staying in Maderas rather than San Juan deal sur if youre after beaches and not looking to party. there is not much to do in the town!

Baba was brilliant. Breakfast was very impressive. Enjoyed the use of the table, the honor system for the drinks and the laundry that Baba recommended was great. The view from the hostel was amazing.
The window in our room when shut was slightly ajar and one or two cockroaches got into the room.

the owners are super friendly and gave great recommendations about activities and things to do around San Juan del Sur and they gave me a walking stick as a present because I had troubles walking (thank you so much again)

well equipped kitchen, and a fridge where you can get some drinks (to pay when you check out)
very dark in the bathroom and low water pressure
many stairs (only a problem because of my injury otherwise would have been fine)
not an issue for us, but many cats and dogs (you should like animals when you stay there)

This place is exceptional! The owners are the kindest people, super helpful and genuine, the location is good (10 min walk to the town), the roof terrace has the best views - breathtaking sunsets -, the room is big with a comfy bed and hot shower and the breakfast is the best we had since traveling. There is a kitchen to use on the terrace which is well equipped and you can enjoy the view while cooking. You can also grab a drink from the stocked fridge and pay afterwards, all drinks are 1 dollar. This was very very convenient. The hammocks, couch and pool table are a nice addition. Just loved everything, thank you for the amazing stay!
