Built in 1820 by John Ballon, a free man of color, the history of Freeman’s Cottage is detailed in the book "Savannah’s Little Crooked Houses: If These Walls Could Talk," by Susan B Johnson and published by the History Press, 2007. Located downtown in the heart of Savannah’s Historical District, this charming Savannah vacation rental comfortably accommodates up to four people and features on-premise parking and a secluded garden patio. The beautiful wood used in the living area makes the space warm and inviting. Open to the kitchen, you’ll never miss a beat of the conversation. Enjoy a home cooked meal or leftovers from one of Savannah’s many fine dining establishments in the sunroom, where you’ll enjoy a view of the secluded garden patio. The full bath has a walk-in shower and large, wooden vanity. The bedroom is located upstairs, and has a queen sized bed you can relax into after a busy day of exploring. Enjoy the modern amenities of home while experiencing historic Savannah, including a washer/dryer, high-speed wifi, and free, on-site parking. Nestled between Warren and Washington Squares, Freeman’s Cottage is conveniently located within walking distance to shops, restaurants, theaters and other points of interest. With the picturesque garden patio, the Cottage is ideal for those celebrating an anniversary or special occasion. Sleeping Configuration: Bed 1: Queen Bed 2: Queen Sleeper Sofa Parking: Private Parking We can welcome your dog companions at this pet friendly home, but ask that you find other arrangements for cats, birds, and other furry friends. There is a $130 pet fee (non-refundable) with a 35 lb. maximum weight limit per dog and a limit of 2 dogs per reservation. Some homes may allow larger dogs, please inquire for more information. My wife and I stayed here in February 2024. This proved to be an excellent location to walk all over the historic district. Parking space included on property. Very clean and secure, would definitely stay here again.

Small cottage with a good location. Off street parking for one car (my Tundra just fit without encroaching on sidewalk). Fenced small back yard for pups. Worked perfectly for me, wife and two labs.

We had a fantastic day all the way from the ability to check in early for a small fee – thank you so much!, to being able to be responsive to any questions that we had about the property. This little cottage is absolutely adorable and perfect for a couple and or a few small dogs. The property management team was great.
The location is only two blocks from the riverfront, an easy walk to most of the parks, and most of the better restaurants in historic Savannah. The property was well-kept and is neat as it is one of the historic properties
While, this was no problem for us, I would make people aware that the best living arrangements are up a steep flight of stairs that are very safe and navigable, but are necessary to get around.

The Freeman house is beautiful and has so much history. We have been to Savannah many times and found this place very convenient and very comfortable. There is a lovely breakfast area in the back looking out to the patio and garden area. The upstairs with the bedroom is peaceful and relaxing. Stairs were a little challenging with the bathroom downstairs. Otherwise, this place is perfect. Nice size bathroom, and the kitchen upgraded. No dishwasher but really no space for it either so understood why

Freeman's Cottage is a wonderful historic cottage. Unfortunately, our stay was not enjoyable. The cottage is in a location where it's hard to sleep as there are lights that are placed around it that are meant for a commercial location. They are VERY bright! Also, I have stayed in the Northern Historic District before and felt safe, but this time I felt unsafe. This cottage is on the edge of the historic district where homeless people meander. It can also be loud as it abuts the the street and Friday and Saturday are loud with revelers walking by! The sofa turns into a bed but only has one thin blanket for use. There is a need for one more blanket. As if this wasn’t enough, during our stay, the neighbor across the street was having his windows replaced. The entire day there was a "Lift" being used for the upper windows and it was expelling diesel and making loud engine noises. Needless to say, no relaxing breakfast or lunch and no napping occurred. The morning of our departure there as a knock on the door and we were notified by a person from a pest company that they were preparing (tenting) the house for termite fumigation that day. They then placed a notification on the door that read, “DANGER FUMIGATION WITH VIKANE DEADLY POISON. This notification also had pictures of skulls and bones. The owners had not prepared the house to protect furniture or dishes by the time we left.

We love the location of this house and its the second time staying here. The problem that we have is that the bathroom is down steep stairs and during the night can be very challenging. A dishwasher would be a plus and a full-size refrigerator for longer stays.

The property is near a square and it has a small fenced in area, both perfect for our pups we traveled to Savannah with. The inside of the cottage is very historic, but the bathroom redone. The kitchen had everything we needed, although small. The home was not as clean as I would have liked - I could see dust build up on the stair banister, on the light fixtures and there was mold in the shower. Although the dedicated, off street parking was so convenient, we'll probably look for somewhere else to stay next time we visit Savannah.

We spent a long weekend at this property. Great for 1-2 people. Location was excellent. We used the hop-on, hop-off on Saturday and walked everywhere on Sunday, Management team was also very responsive. We would stay here again.

We enjoyed our 4 night stay in the cottage, and couldn't have asked for a better location. All points of downtown were walkable, and having dedicated parking was a huge plus! The cottage had everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. Would definitely stay again when visiting Savannah!

Perfectly clean, well equipped property. Amazing that it is a historic landmark, 200 years old. Situated ideally in the Historic district to explore Savannah. Responsive property managers. Parking on site. Dog friendly, which is huge. Only comment is that the back yard could be improved, but this is minor given all the great places to go just minutes away.

Cottage was cute, clean, and in a great location. It was within walking distance to the River walk and all its restaurants and shops. However, the garden patio was disappointing. The plants were dead and it was overtaken by lots of weeds. A previous guest left their dog's droppings as a present for us. Suggest paying a gardener to clean up and plant new flowers- it would be such a valuable amenity.

We really enjoyed the Historic Cottage. The proximity to River street and downtown allowed us to walk to dinner, shopping and parks. The cottage was very clean and had a nice historic charm. Check in and out was uneventful. We enjoyed the private yard and loved that we had a place to park. The bedroom is upstairs and the steps are a little steep but they have rails. This is one of the better properties we have stayed at.

This was a great little property conveniently located to so much. Nice little squares within a 1/4 block or so, and a quick walk to Emmet Park.
The little courtyard was great for our furry family member, and the house was spotless. The stairs going up to the bedroom / loft are a little steep - but the entire cottage is a great little place to stay.
Having a private parking spot also makes the stay easier. No having to look for a spot when you return from quick little jaunts to see other sites.
Was a great fun four day - three nights with awesome memories made. The property was a great way to start and end the day!

This beautiful historic cottage is situated in walking distance to so many wonderful places to explore in Savannah. The cottage is cozy, comfortable, clean and gives you the feel of Savannah. The backyard and own parking space are definite pluses too! This was our third time staying there and will look forward to a return visit.

This is a cute little house, and in a great location close to most things. It has private parking. The rental company is great and easy to communicate with if you need them. The downstairs has high ceilings and lots of space. The bathroom is a little snug, especially around the toilet. The upstairs has enough room, but the ceiling is pitched on both sides. So if you are tall you might not want to rent this one. We enjoyed our time and would definitely rent it again.

We travel and have been in tons of places. Although it is a cute house for historical purposes, it is very uncomfortable with a small tv, horrible couch and very uncomfortable bed upstairs where it is warm.

This cottage is in a perfect location. We were able to walk to the river front. We were surrounded by great places to eat. We were close to Tybee Island. The best bonus was a private parking spot. We have small dogs so the fenced in courtyard was great. The house itself was very clean. We had the best time.

Definitely perfect for two people. Close walking distance to Riverfront Walk, Parks, Restaurants. Very Interesting history of Cottage. Enjoyed sitting out in back; however, wish the Flowers were more in bloom! It would have been nice.

This cottage lived up to everything I saw online. However, there were a few issues; the door locks (understandable for an 1820's doorknob) and a double sheet set for a queen pull-out sofa bed. These issues were immediately addressed and resolved after contacting the Lucky Savannah Management. Without a doubt, I would book with them again.

Loved this former freed slave’s home and it’s amazing location - proximity to everything. Some street/pedestrian noise due to location. House was adorable and just as listed, except for the courtyard landscaping.
