The location. The staff were very thoughtful regarding making up our room. The could see how we had things arranged and left them like that. It felt they cared.

Great location, beautiful spacious rooms and comfy bed.

Would have liked to have been given more info on surrounding tourist events when arriving at the hotel. There was a 50yr anniversary fireworks display that happened over the top of the hotel one night when we were in the room and we missed it. We feel that sort of thing could have been communicated by the staff when arriving to maximise our experience at the hotel and in cairns.

Shangri-La is a famous name that naturally raises expectations. Unfortunately, this hotel doesn’t feel like a five-star. It’s dated, worn, and in need of renovation. Not worth the price. We booked a “city view” room, but the main view was actually at the parking lot. Multiple garbage trucks came under our window every morning at 7 am. For some reason we got an “accessible” room, with a bathroom for disabled people. Which by itself is not a problem, but definitely doesn’t fit the 5-star image. It felt like a motel. Overall, definitely not worth the five-star price. And additional costs for the parking, this is ridiculous.
