*HOT TUB! SUNSET VIEWS! ACREAGE! IN TOWN!!
About this house rental
Nestled in Santa Fe, this attractive house for $587 per night is a fantastic choice for your next break. Nestled among two acres of pinons, at the foot of the sacred Sun Mountain, your home awaits you. Sunrises and Sunsets greet you daily. Please note that though the house sits on 2 acres there is a guesthouse next door. The only space you share with residents of the guesthouse are the driveways. At Maddie's Place, Sun Mountain is right out your back door. It is 30 minute easy hike to the summit. One mile away is Museum Hill and the botanical gardens. Just a few blocks from there are art galleries, restaurants, and the Georgia O'Keefe Museum. Georgia spent her final years just a couple blocks from your Sun Mountain abode, and you'll understand why. It is the perfect place to watch the skies change across the horizon from Sandia Mountains, the Jemez Mountains, to the Colorado border. Step out on to your patio, grill some salmon, and enjoy a glass of wine while the last of the light lingers on your private portal. There is an additional queen bed outside for use during the summer if you feel like sleeping there, or curl up with a book, or simply watch the birds drink from the koi pond. The sunsets are spectacular. Enjoy the sounds of coyotes as the lights begin to twinkle before you. The perfect retreat after the days activities, your home at Sun Mountain will beckon you to return. *Please note that in the winter, this home sleeps only 4 people as the outdoor queen size bed is only able to be used in the summer (hence sleeps 6 people in the summer) Pets are indeed welcome! There is a $100 USD pet fee x pet x stay. ************************************************* NEED ADDITIONAL or OTHER accommodations? We loved the view and the outdoor bed. Indoor ones were comfortable. The house and property are very kitschy. We were taken aback at the messiness of the front area and the muddy driveway, though. It’s older than it appears in the photos. But we had fun and enjoyed our time here.

This property is in a great location...within 10 minutes of the Plaza and even closer to Canyon Road...but it feels very private....plus it has great views, hummingbirds and 2 koi ponds. We enjoyed the sunrises and sunsets as well as feeding the fish and watching the birds. There was an issue with the hot tub but George and Nancy were quick to respond and took appropriate action. We would stay there again if we are fortunate enough to visit Santa Fe again.

This home is enchanting .
I love it all: the birds, the flowers, the art work, the love and connoisseur-ship !
Everything has been so tenderly and beautifully designed!
I kept seeing art that I had never seen before.

My wife and I have owned several rental and home sharing properties. We also stay at home sharing properties when we travel. We have nothing but 5 star ratings on the home sharing sites. Our experience with this house was so bad that for the first time ever we are filing a complaint with VRBO.
Yes the views are incredible and there is a ton of artwork around the house. However, the house was dirty and smelled of musty mothballs. As others said, there is clutter everywhere; every drawer and shelf is stuffed to the brim with junk. Old spices, kitchen gadgets jammed into every drawer making the kitchen very difficult to use.
We used the dishwasher once and then it produced an error code and would not work. The owners first blamed the prior guests but then when I complained that we would have to handwash dishes for 2.5 weeks they blamed us. And you have to wash the dishes by hand right away because there are ants everywhere. If you leave a dish out for a few minutes, it is crawling with ants. I mentioned this to the owners as well and they brushed it off.
These types of issues continued during our whole trip. The hot tub was dirty with green-hued water when we got there - a complaint others have had. The host said a cleaning guy would come by once a week to clean it. He never showed up during our 3 weeks and we never used the hot tub. Unbelievably, after we left the owners blamed us for breaking the hot tub.
The pipes are old and sensitive and need a major upgrade. When you use the washing machine, the toilet in the guest room where the washer is located won’t flush and soap bubbles up.
The worst part is how the owners responded - tried to blame us at every turn despite this house being neglected for years. I have never been treated so poorly by a host. I have saved our entire communication thread and am happy to share it with anyone who is thinking of renting this property.
Bottom line is that if you are there for a night it is probably ok. But if you at all need to rely on the infrastructure of the house working or expect to deal with normal, accommodating and understanding owners, run away from this listing as fast as possible.

The views and sunsets from this property are absolutely outstanding. The house was as described. Loved the artwork throughout the house and enjoyed the sense of calmness the property provided.

Great house for a family getaway. Beautiful views, nice kitchen, and attentive property owners.

The house was amazing! A few min away from downtown but the backyard patio and hot tub with a view was the best part of the entire trip. My kids had the best time in the hot tub, this will be a core memory for them (ages 3 and 4). The house was awesome too: everything you’d could need for cooking with a luxury range as well, beds and bathrooms were very nice, and each room has an automatic gas fireplace. The owners must either be artists themselves or just avid collectors., or both. The house is filled with so many pieces you would need hours just to comprehend it all, super eclectic and cool. The bed outside was a great spot for afternoon nap but too cold for over night in March. Overall, we had an amazing week at the house and would happily stay there again.

Wonderful winter getaway for the family!
We had such a good time here, with amazing views that I couldn’t help but photograph many times a day! The hot tub was wonderful, the master bedroom is very private, and my 2 teens were able to have their own space with one sleeping on a twin size daybed in the living room. The house is very well stocked with kitchen supplies. The washer and dryer were great. I love the thermostat controlled gas fireplaces in every room! I had never experienced that. The house stayed very warm. Very short drive to town. The covered parking was nice to have when it snowed! We would love to return.

I have stayed in dozens of rentals and NEVER had reason to leave a negative review. This is the exception. Initially, I planned to stay away from details in this review; then I found that this is the 4th complaint about cleanliness in the last 17 reviews. These owners are not reliable with providing a clean house when you arrive. So know that about every 4th or 5th customer is arriving to a house that is partly or entirely unclean. When paying well over $300 a day, are you prepared to have your first day be all about getting the owner to bring in a cleaning crew? (With an ailing wife, I just cleaned things myself.)
But first off, all the great compliments about the views. sunsets, and artwork are well deserved. You cannot beat the ambiance! The kitchen, unfortunately, proved to be a nightmare.
We arrived to find the house clean except for a dead mouse in the middle of the kitchen floor, mouse droppings in several kitchen drawers, mold in the frig (like 3/20 review of Alexandra), dirty dishes in the dishwasher (like 10/21 by Rosalie, 12/20 by Chris) and the gas heater in the master bedroom was not working (again Chris E a year ago). Even after I cleaned it, the frig smelled like fish throughout our visit.
It is also clear that the kitchen cabinets have a LOT of accumulated stuff from over 10-20 years of use. Spices, condiments, chips, even wraps, etc. … CHECK the expiration dates!! The first one I checked was from 2009. A purging of the consumables is long overdue.
If you are doing stovetop cooking or grilling outdoors for a small group, this could be considered a good kitchen set-up. We had planned to host a feast for 8 people and ran into major problems. They have waaay too much of many things (glasses, plates, pots n pans), and are lacking in some key things (oven mitts, cheese grater, serving spoons). The kitchen is REALLY disorganized and cabinets are filled with clutter. So, unless the owners give the whole space a clean-out, plan to stick with grilling and stove-top cooking. And if you plan to use their unique, pretty-but-confusing oven, you WILL need guidance – it is on the side of the frig across the room.
Consider yourself alerted to these long-term patterns of neglect. So, to fellow customers I say don’t “just say nice things” out of habit – in this case, if you DO run into shortcomings, hold the owners accountable, for the benefit of future customers. If not for the sunsets, art and location, this would be a 1.

Charming adobe house with unusual art
Absolutely beautiful adobe house, perfect location centrally located close to historic santa fe downtown while also being tucked up against the mountains with hiking trails that start in the backyard. Beautiful sweeping views of Santa Fe.
Flags: dishes weren't very clean upon arrival, beds were small and too soft for our taste, and the extent of the owner's art collection is not fully represented in the photos... every possible bit of wall is covered with modern art pieces, many of them including heretical and ironic commentary (e.g. in the master bathroom "if you look good and dress well, you don't need a purpose in life"). It didn't bother us, but I would want any potential guest to be aware in case they are more sensitive and find the atmosphere to be less than relaxing.

We thoroughly enjoyed staying here! The location is amazing - what a view! But it’s also a quick drive into town. The house is historic and decorated with so much artwork! Beds are comfortable, the kitchen is well-appointed, and we had fun feeding the koi in the two ponds. Current patio and landscaping work made for a cluttered exterior but did not keep us from enjoying our stay.

Great place for 4 people who love to cook, enjoy views, be close enough to town, yet feel like you are not. Very well appointed home with interesting artifacts and history. Fabulous kitchen, outdoor areas and grill. We loved being able to cook a few meals, enjoy conversation and watching the sunset on the patio! We were outside much more than in!
If the stunning property pictures show a hot tub in background - it’s been out of service since March. That was our only disappointment. Otherwise, it was a very nice stay for a party of 4:).

This house was beautiful! I stayed here with 5 friends and it was the perfect size. The kitchen was the perfect size and the view off the porch was unbeatable. We had so much fun hiking up the trail that connects to the the house. And fairly priced! This house made our trip — absolutely would recommend!

Fabulous house in an outstanding location just a short distance from Santa Fe proper. Everything we needed was there and more. If you’re a bird enthusiast plenty of activity and songs throughout the day. The views are just amazing as well. Thank you George and Nancy for sharing your little piece of heaven with us!

Our family of four had an extremely comfortable stay. The home was well stocked with everything we needed. We were easily able to use the grill and hot tub. The views of the city are spectacular. We also loved that we could walk to the Sun Mountain trailhead and hike without having to drive somewhere. It also felt like there was new art to discovery each time I walked through the house. It was like staying in a museum.

When we arrived we found that the home had not been cleaned, the sheets had not been changed and there were dirty dishes in the sink. We also found that the gas heater in the master bedroom was not working, the toilet in the second bedroom was clogged, and the shower door was broken. The ceiling fan and light in the second bedroom also were not working. When we called the owner they had a housekeeper come immediately to clean the house, and she did a great job under the circumstances which was working late on Christmas Eve! But we couldnt help but feel like we could have endangered ourselves entering an unclean house with kiddos during a pandemic! Already it was not off to a good start. The heater was not fixed for a couple of days which was annoying but acceptable since there was a backup electric heater in the closet. The clogged toilet and shower were not fixed so we only had one bathroom that was usable during our entire stay. The owner did offer to fix the toilet, however it was not going to happen until our last full day so it would have been too late to make a difference in our stay. The shower door was never fixed and it was suggested by the Owner that it was just "off the rails" but I have pictures that show it's clearly broken off the metal brackets that hold it on the rails. There was no way to use the shower without getting everything wet! The ceiling fan and light was never fixed or even offered to be fixed. The hot tub was working when we got there but after using it once it tripped a circuit or something and did not turn back on. The owner sent someone over on our last full day and it was fixed, but too late for us to enjoy it again. Once we got past all the issues, the house is really beautiful and in a nice quiet area on a mountain hillside. The home has spacious rooms full of eclectic art and nice furniture. The kitchen is nice and big and the gas stove is amazing to use. The views from the patio are breathtaking and the sunrises and sunsets are one of the many joys. If we didn’t have all the initial issues then I would have given it a better review. The owner only refunded us less than one night's stay even after we asked for more, therefore I changed my review to 2-stars after I was going to give them 3 stars. The refund barely covered the cleaning fee! Also, the welcome sheet says to call or text with any questions but I found that I got no responses to my texts so make sure you call and DO NOT TEXT.

Beautiful Santa Fe View
The house was quaint with a beautiful view of Santa Fe. We enjoyed sitting outside having coffee in the mornings and watching gorgeous sunsets in the evenings. There were a few things that we wish we had known prior to making the decision to stay in this house. 1. Although we were very glad to be able to bring our pet Sheltie on vacation with us to this pet friendly home, there was very little outdoor space for him to walk or relieve himself without getting into cocker burrs or cactus. 2. The house faces the West sun in the afternoons. Most of the year, this would be really be nice. But, in the middle of August it was almost unbearable. The house is equipped with sun shades on the patio that can be lowered to block the sun, but they were not set up to be secured at the bottom and just blew wildly in the wind. The afternoon sun warmed the house up so significantly without cross ventilation that sitting in the living room was uncomfortable. We were grateful for the small window unit in the master bedroom. 3. Lastly, we were not aware that there is a Casita attached to the main house. There were two different groups of people renting the casita during our stay and one also had their dog. Although we could not see them when sitting out nor did we share any common areas (other than the driveway), it was not the secluded retreat we were hoping for. Lesson to us to read the fine print in the property description.

Love this property! With a patio overlooking all of Santa Fevand the mountains beyond, we enjoyed much of our time right there. Cooked many of our meals in the well equipped kitchen and enjoyed them at the patio dining table. A true Santa Fe treasure.

We enjoyed our stay and the home was lovely.
The house is well appointed and has great views. We used the house as our base for hiking in Bandelier, Tent Rocks and surrounding area near Santa Fe. It was nice to come home each night to wonderful views overlooking the city. We also enjoyed the hike up Sun mountain which can be accessed literally right outside the back of the house. We were a bit disappointed when we arrived after driving from Houston that the house had not been cleaned or prepared for our arrival. We contacted the owner and she responded immediately. A cleaning crew arrived shortly after that. The house seemed to be a bit neglected since moldy food was left out, trash was smelly and cobwebs in doorways. Plus the koi ponds needed some TLC, the yard had not been cared for in awhile and the outside patio furniture needed to wiped down before we could use it. Perhaps, that's because winter is just ending and the property needs a good Spring cleaning. The owner contributed to our dinner out while the cleaning crew worked which was nice of her. Since the crew needed to work rapidly, I feel like they didn't do as good as job as they may have given more time. The house is full of really interesting art and items to enjoy. Beautiful collection of pottery too. The property felt very personal and that we were invited as friends to feel at home, not just VRBO renters.

Fantastic house in a fantastic place
The property was everything we expected and more. Cozy, spacious, with an amazing view of Santa Fe, in a quiet location at the foot of Sun Mountain. Great internet for all your devices and digital entertainment. And you have the Sun Mountain trail at the back of the house, which takes you to the top of the mountain to even more amazing views of the area. We went up several mornings; it was a fabulous way to start our day! I can't wait to visit again, next time during the summer months.
