The Whale Lookout, Eagle Bay
About this apartment rental
This 1 bedroom studio is only a 7 minute walk to the beach and is set on an acre of beautiful native bushland which it shares with a second residence. Both private residences have uninterrupted ocean views across Eagle Bay, and the Cape Naturaliste National Park – the ultimate escape for a romantic holiday. The large deck area includes an electric Weber BBQ, dining table and timber li-lo chairs to create a relaxed atmosphere and enhances the romantic mood. You will not want to go home after experiencing this amazing vacation. Please note: the studio is situated on a shared property with the owners' residence. Every effort is made to give guests as much privacy as possible; the owners are extremely respectful of guest privacy. Easy to find, good clear instructions.
The owners next door were delightful. We only saw them briefly and chatted with them and their lovely dog. They have the most beautiful garden to look over and walk through.
The unit has wonderful views. The kitchen is basic but fully functional. The lounge chairs aren’t very comfortable but we managed ok. The bed mattress is great but unfortunately the wooden frame creaks a lot on the window side.
The owners were very helpful as when we had a power cut one evening they brought over a solar powered lamp. It would be helpful if some provision is made for such occurrences as apparently power cuts are not uncommon in the busy summer period. It only lasted about an hour but there were no working torches.
The positives were more than the negatives and we did love Eagle Bay and would happily return if on another visit from the UK.

The holiday home is comfortable and well equipped with the essentials for a couples stay. We loved the view and the peaceful mornings and evening on the balcony- need to remember binoculars next time for whale spotting and bird watching! A great stay.

You're paying for the view, and what a view.
The property is a lightweight structure in above average condition, accessed by external stairs, above the owners garage, approximately 6m offset from their house. Access is via external timber stairs onto an upper deck. The accommodation is situated amongst the owners spectacular gardens.
Visual privacy is more than adequate, certainly more than a hotel or adjoined structure. Acoustically, as the rental sits on top of the garage, you can certainly hear it when the owners park, but that was limited to once or twice a day and was not bothersome or intrusive. The owners are clearly conscious of personal space and did not intrude or pry in any way, and were very nice. They have a lovely dog, which we barely saw, which cannot enter the entry stairs to the unit, as there is a gate.
The inside of the rental is exceptionally clean. The bed and bedding are high quality and very clean, though the doona was extremely warm, with limited alternatives. There is reverse cycle AC unit in the living section only, and air circulation to the bedroom was limited. In winter this was more than adequate, but in summer, I'm not sure. The remote is kind of broken (or perhaps running out of batteries), and so it was locked to 25C. Towels in the bathroom were great, and the hot water was faultless.
There is a full fridge and freezer (not a bar fridge), and a Nespresso machine, complete with some pods as well as tea, which is nice. The oven is a counter top electric one, not a 600mm built in, which may affect people planning to cook anything large.
The furniture is fine, mostly an assortment of cost effective and eclectic pieces. The lounge is a tiny love seat, which could be bigger, the chairs wicker or plastic and are outdoor furniture so not the most comfortable. Given the price range, easily comparable to 5 star hotels (minus the view), the furniture could use an update in style, size and comfort.
TV was fine, though it has terrible sounds, though with that view, you likely won't turn it on. A bluetooth speaker is included which is nice.
The deck is large and there are chairs and am umbrella, but we didn't use either due to the weather.
You pay for the views, and you get that in spades. Everything else is fine and comfortable - we will likely return.

Everything you would want, we had a lovely stay at this Eagle Bay accommodation

There is no mention that the cottage is right next door to the owner’s home giving zero privacy. The toilet facing into the bedroom is very awkward. I felt the property is totally over priced for what you get.

Beautiful spot to relax and immerse yourself in the sounds of nature, combined with stunning views of the ocean. Loved waking up to that view every morning. Not too far from anywhere, especially the amazing beaches in the area. Really loved our greetings from Winston, the chocolate Labrador too. We will be back..

We booked this property last minute for a weekend getaway. It’s a small place with everything you need on the property of a lovely couple with the cutest dog! Check-in was very easy and there were no issues during our stay. Only a few minutes from the beach and conveniently close to Dunsborough town, it was a lovely spot for some R-&-R.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Whale lookout. The house was cozy & well priced for the area. The main house was closer than we expected, however the owner’s weren’t intrusive at all. The view was spectacular!
