About this house rental
Important update: In response to guests' comments, we have removed the key lockbox and installed a Schlage "Smart Lock" to make your arrival and entry into the house quick and easy. Each party will be given a unique four-digit code (usually the last four digits of the primary guest's cell phone number) to enter the casita. Just punch in your code on the face of the smart lock and "Ouila" the door unlocks. Upon entry, the guest will disarm the security system on the panel in the master bedroom dressing area. This should alleviate the awkwardness at checkin. "Absolutely extraordinary" "Perfection" "Absolute Joy" "Magnificent" "Like living in an art gallery" "Art lovers dream” “Perfect Casita!” “Perfect location” “Sacred space" "Comfy, cozy casa" "Loved this house!" (GUEST REVIEWS) Hello and welcome to Casa Estrella, our Santa Fe home. Casa Estrella is a lovingly-restored historic adobe surrounded by lush walled gardens at the end of a quiet, private lane in the heart of Santa Fe’s Historic District. Our home and gardens are filled with original Southwestern art, and the gardens are full of delightful blooms throughout providing a peaceful haven for relaxing and visiting. There is always a cool shady spot with five mature fruit trees plus blue spruce, aspen, pinon and pine trees providing protection on sunny days. The house is air conditioned and heated throughout. We are pleased to be able to share our casita with discriminating, like-minded adults and are confident you will thoroughly enjoy your stay in our home. SPECIAL NOTE: Please read the 94+ other reviews by scrolling down from our picture and below "About Ed Lanford and Marilyn Burgess" to "Guest comments from the Manager." These are comments from notes left in our Guestbook, emails, and cards "love letters" and watercolors from our guests. Casa Estrella is only 0.4 miles or an eight minute walk to Lower Canyon Road, the epicenter of Santa Fe's finest galleries and restaurants. Stroll to the La Fonda Plaza in fifteen minutes or so (0.8 miles). Explore four world class museums and a botanical garden on Museum Hill within 1.3 miles. The Santa Fe Opera is less than six miles away and SkiSantaFe is only 16 miles. The Railyard arts and entertainment district is minutes from the casita. This authentic casita has been totally redone and has been filled with new and antique furnishings and stainless steel appliances in a contemporary New Mexico style. There are double-adobe walls, 9' beamed ceilings, hand-troweled, diamond plaster walls, skylights, wide-plank pine and white oak floors, and Saltillo tile throughout the casita. The casita is 1250 s.f. in size and sits on almost a quarter of an acre. Warm yourself by the kiva fireplace in the living room on chilly Santa Fe nights. Enjoy a gourmet-equipped kitchen, with a dining table seating up to six. The two lovely bedrooms include a master suite with a California King bed, en-suite dressing area and bath with heated floors, a top-of-the-line Tempurpedic Cloud Luxe mattress, and two each of down, Fibrefill and Tempurpedic pillows, and comfy spa linens. As of November 2015, all spa linens and two down pillows and two Fiberfill in each bedroom are new. There are new towels in the master bath as well. The guest bedroom has a King bed with a memory foam mattress, down and Fiberfill pillows (two of each). The guest bathroom is a modest shower bath suitable for one person at a time to do their daily ablutions. The fully-equipped kitchen is roomy and light-filled with Saltillo tile floors and natural wood finishes. French doors in the kitchen lead to a ramada-shaded outdoor dining area and our extensive garden areas. There is a full-size stacking washer/dryer in the utility area. Casa Estrella is filled with original signed Native American and Southwestern art and is surrounded by lovely garden areas on four sides. Original artwork fills the oasita with original paintings and signed proofs by Nocona Burgess, Stan Natchez, Malcolm Furlow, John Nieto, Frank Howell, photographic work by Lenny Foster and Abby Beck, sculpture by Bill Worrell, Rebecca Tobey, Alvin John, Sandy Graves, Paul Rhymer, Susan Harvey, Star York, Jim Epler, Earl Eder and glass work by Carol Lujan.. Relax to the sounds of our 'Valentine's' natural rock fountain or our Stone Forest millstone fountain. In the gardens, Find “Sanctuary” and'Freedom,' original sculptures by renowned artist Bill Worrell, other sculptures by Paul Rhymer, Alvin and Melvin John, and Chris Turri. The landscaping is softly illuminated for truly enchanting Santa Fe evenings and professionally maintained. Our goal is to keep our casita and gardens spotlessly clean and ever-changing for the year-round delight and excitement of our guests and ourselves. The casita has DirectTV, free streaming Netflix movies through two new 40" Samsung SmartTVs, high-speed wifi, a Bose SoundWave CD player, and free wifi. The gardens are perfect for romantic evenings for two, entertaining outdoors or the solitude a quiet garden can provide. Within the privacy of adobe and coyote walls are three garden areas. The coffee/cocktail garden is shaded by a large plum and a mature Russian olive tree. A cocktail table, seating for four, two zero-gravity lounge chairs and a chimenea with plenty of firewood are provided for our guests’ pleasure. Enjoy meals, cocktails and conversation around the dining table for six in the shade of a ramada in another area of the gardens. The front portal offers day-long shade from our own Piñon pine and refuge during Santa Fe monsoon rains and winter snow showers. In season, savor fruit from the casita’s apple, apricot, peach and plum trees or make a cobbler. In addition to these fruit trees and the Russian olive, we have a flowering cherry, a dwarf blue spruce, a Scotch Pine, pinon, desert willow, and numerous aspen trees. These are all large, mature trees. There is a big cottonwood in our neighbor's garden that shades our ramada dining area in the mornings and early afternoons. The house and gardens are completely private and enclosed by adobe walls and coyote fences. Aspen trees line the drive along the casita’s outer wall. During the season, the gardens and landscaping are lush and are professionally maintained year-round. For your time indoors, the casita is cooled with remote-controlled air conditioners and heated by radiant in-floor and baseboard systems. This very popular property is perfect for romantic escapes, “girlfriend getaways,” art and museum jaunts, outdoor adventures or all combined. Casa Estrella is best suited for one or two couples! We have strict No Smoking and No Pets policies. The casita has several heavy metal sculptures that have sharp edges and points and also two low fountains that might pose as safety hazards to your little ones. Therefore, the property may not be suitable for 'small children' or toddler appropriate. We own another home, Casa Grande, which is a beautiful four bedroom four bath adobe on almost a half acre. Casa Estrella and Casa Grande are only a 350 yard walk from one another and can be rented together, schedules permitting, for larger families and groups. The combination provides six bedrooms, five and one half baths, sleeping for 12 in six king and queen beds. Plan now for the following summer events: July: Santa FE Bandstand Santa Fe International Folk Art Market Santa Fe Opera Santa Fe Wine Festival New Mexico Jazz Festival Traditional Spanish Art Market August: Santa Fe Indian Market Objects of Art Santa Fe August Zozobra September: Santa Fe Renaissance Fair Santa Fe Concorso Santa Fe Wine and Chile Fiesta November & December: During the holidays, we don't have check in's on Thanksgiving day, Christmas eve or Christmas Day, New Year's eve or New Year's day. Christmas/New Year's week, a 7 night minimum is required. With warmest regards, Ed and Marilyn Casa Estrella has a current City of Santa Fe Short Term Rental Permit #130699 and a Santa Fe Business License #130755. The casita is beautiful, cozy and warm for desert dwellers in a Santa Fe winter. The location is perfect for a fair weather walk to the galleries on Canyon Road and the shopping and museums around the Plaza. Parking worked for our large SUV and it was easy to find. The internet was a challenge but we came to avoid distractions, not perpetuate them. We hope to stay again.

The home was lovely and carefully decorated. There were a lot of thoughtful touches included. The walk to the plaza and restaurants was easy. We enjoyed getting sandwiches at Kaune's Neighborhood Market prior to our hiking trips. Thank you!

Clean, quiet, pretty house. Beautiful little private garden from which you can see the stars at night.
You can easily walk to a nice coffee shop and a book store. Canyon road, the plaza, restaurants are a very short drive away.
We enjoyed ourselves!

This is absolute the best BNB we have ever rented. The house was perfect for the area--from it's historic location, to the lovely gardens, to the local artwork in the house. It was very well equipped and comfortable for our group of four. We felt right at home from the first minute we arrived with a greeting of soft jazz music, a bottle of champagne, and a beautiful floral arrangement. Those touches helped make this a wonderful experience. These hosts know how to create an amazing experience.
I had a question about the alarm system as I had never used one before, and the renting agent, Pam, was very patient and helpful. Even prior to our stay, she answered all of my questions very promptly.
The location is perfect for viewing all of the sites in the Santa Fe area. It takes only a few minutes to get to the heart of Santa Fe's historic area. While there, we also visited several National Park sites as well as the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta. All were within just an easy hour's drive.

Beautifully decorated, inside and out. A very relaxing stay with galleries just walking distance away.

We enjoyed our stay. The home was just as pictured; beautiful yard to relax in after our busy days. Close and walkable to so many things.
The second bathroom could use a little TLC. It needs some extra cleaning and a new shower curtain.

The house is very nice with 2 wood burning fireplaces, the alarm went off twice and I don't know why. Great time

Every detail of the property has been appointed with care and love and good taste. The art is beautiful and the design of the grounds is equally beautiful. We spent a lot of time outside, lounging in chairs and enjoying the weather and the views. It was perfect for the four of us. I want to give a shout out to Ed Lanford, the owner, who was as solicitous and friendly and kind as any owner we have ever dealt with.
N.B. VRBO itself is tricky: we wanted to add an extra night, and that turned out to be extremely costly, especially in terms of taxes. Be sure to consider all their additional costs.

Classic Santa Fe casita. Glorious garden. AVTech updates would be good.

Our family of four just stayed at this place and it was perfect! The amount of space was perfect. The patio and gardens were beautiful and peaceful...great for morning coffee. The location was also very good. Thank you so much for sharing your home with us:)

Beautiful home with great art work and wonderful outdoor space in one of the best neighborhoods of Santa Fe. Easy walk to the Plaza and downtown. Ed was an extremely responsive host (dropped off a propane tank refill at 9:30PM) and wanted to be sure all our needs were met. We have already booked for next year. In the interest of complete transparency it is important to know that the second bath room is not ensuite to the second bedroom. Not a problem for my wife and me, actually nice to have a his and her bathroom, but might be an issue for two couples. For us it was a perfect place and we look forward to our return.

Our absolute favorite place to stay in Santa Fe. Beautiful, secluded home with lovely private backyard only a few minute walk to the Plaza!

Gardens were terrific - when at the house we were mostly in the garden with art and birds. Location on private drive away from street a top feature. But only a block to a great coffee shop and a couple more blocks to Canyon Road. We hope to stay here again soon.

We stayed for a week and half and enjoyed every moment! The gardens are even more beautiful than the photos, the house is cozy, comfortable, and authentic, and it was such a privilege to be surrounded by such wonderful New Mexican art. I swear each day we noticed a new piece we hadn't seen before in the most wonderful way!
Beyond all that, the very best part of experience is Ed, who is wonderful. When we had a couple of minor things that the property manager couldn't answer he got back to us so quickly and is the epitome of hospitality. We will definitely stay here again on our next visit!

We can’t say enough about this lovely retreat. As promised, it’s a short walking distance to all that Downtown Santa Fe has to offer. It’s also in great proximity to plenty of day trips. The yard was in full bloom when we arrived. The fountain sculpture in the yard is a haven for all the birds in the area. Inside, the home is warm and welcoming. We arrived to flowers and guitar music playing. The beds are super comfy after a day of hiking. Plenty of visitor information on the coffee table to help you plan your days (and your future visits). Amazing artwork both inside and outside.

This was a great place to stand down and relax for 3 days on our Southwestern road trip.

Casa Estrella is a well-located casita located in a quiet neighborhood very closed to the prime spots of Santa Fe. The furnishings and decor are very nice and help set the mood of the community. I have stared there before and will consider it again.

This was a most enjoyable stay. The neighborhood was so quiet and peaceful. Enjoyed the birds with our morning coffee. The art was most interesting and decor very comfortable. A wonderful stay.

coffee maker was worthless. But a block away from a great coffee shop. Was given exact instructions about trash removal. Turns out the neighbor handles setting out the trash.

Comfortable, beautifully appointed home just a short walk from Canyon Road galleries. Lovely garden and accommodation for outdoor dining. Kitchen equipped with everything necessary for meal preparation. Quiet neighborhood setting. Better suited for guests looking for low-key relaxation.

This house was so comfortable. House has loads of lovely art indoors and out. The beds were so comfortable we slept well here. Neighbors are friendly and helpful.
House is a great gathering area to just chill and enjoy your surroundings. It's an easy walk to restaurants and shopping.

Casa Estrella is a beautiful, comfortable, well-equipped home. We especially appreciated the heated bath floor and the kiva fireplace on a snowy March evening. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there.

The highlight of our visit to Santa Fe every year is staying at Casa Estella. The casita is ideally located on a quiet lane that is only minutes away from everything; the gardens are beautiful; and the art and furnishing make the casita a welcoming home. (The photos on the website capture the casita's charm.) Our favorite season at the casita is winter (but summer in Santa Fe is also fun).

This house was perfect for a romantic get-away with the cozy, warm rooms and the Kiva fireplace. We were there over Christmas and New Years and the house is beautifully decorated and beyond comfortable with every amenity you could think of to make for a perfect stay. The owners have literally thought of everything any person could want. The art work is incredible and it seemed every day I would spot something new I hadn't noticed before. The beds and linens were ultra-comfortable. I found the Santa Fe air to be dry and we used the provided humidifier that solved the problem. We used the fireplace every day and there was plenty of firewood provided. We ate and some of the wonderful local spots but also cooked a lot of meals at the house. I'm sure the outside grounds are even more beautiful when in bloom and we hope to stay there some time when we can enjoy that as well. Thank you Ed and Marilyn for sharing your wonderful home!

Beautiful home, furnishings, yard and artwork. Very well equipped and everything worked as described. Great location. Extremely clean. Overall, an excellent property and wonderfully enhanced our first visit to Santa Fe. (And we especially enjoyed the "staging" of the house when we arrived.) Thank you to our hosts and their property manager.

We had a great stay at Casa Estrela in Santa Fe. The house and grounds are meticulously decorated and maintained. The location is great for exploring downtown Santa Fe, Canyon Road, and many other sites and restaurants. The only small negative I might add is that the house feels a little too full of decorations; at least for the tastes of our party. We would certainly stay again if we needed a home in SF.

My wife and I chose Santa Fe as our first travel destination in 4+ years. Our plans included the 2022 Wine and Chili Festival, a rendezvous with family, exploring Santa Fe as well as the surrounding area, and having a place to stay that would help us rejuvenate after losing our home in 2017 (as well as everything in it), Covid-19 (which delayed our travel plans by 2+ years), and an earthquake near our home just two days before we left (which nearly caused us to cancel this trip). From the moment we entered Casa Estella we knew we had chosen the perfect place to stay. The location provided easy access to exploring Santa Fe and the surrounding area and the warmth and charm of Casa Estrella helped to melt away years of stress and disappointment, as well as facilitated sharing precious time with family members,. Ed and Marilyn Casa Estrella is truly a gem and clearly checked all of our boxes. Thank you for sharing your amazing home.

Santa Fe has been a summertime Mecca for chamber music, opera and fine cuisine for my husband and I for over 30 years. Casa Estrella was an ideal home away from home from which to launch our latest Northern New Mexico travel adventures. We especially enjoyed the property’s beautifully landscaped grounds, tastefully appointed interiors adorned with outstanding art selections, and secluded location. We look forward to a return visit and are recommending the property to friends and family.

Charming, snug home--just right for two couples--in a quiet neighborhood within easy, comfortable walking distance of the Plaza. Beautifully decorated and well-equipped, this is not just a "rental," it's a place you'll feel at home. Attention to detail is everywhere, up to and including the thick leather-covered guest notebook chockful of tourist info and the owners' personal recommendations which are helpful to oldtimer and newcomer alike. Outside, the house is wrapped on three sides by a lovely tree-shaded garden with two separate courtyard seating areas, each with its own water feature, and romantically lit at night. This lovely, peaceful outdoor environment will double your enjoyment of the property!

Absolutely delightful stay. This was our first stay in summer and the gardens and grounds were especially a welcome vacation retreat. Bird lovers will be rewarded. The lush plantings, privacy and calming water features made the grounds a welcome retreat. It was of course good to once again appreciate the art and attention to detail in the casita. We will be back.
5.0
A secluded property with beautiful landscaping, yet within easy walking distance of Canyon Road. The distance to the center of town is a bit longer, but still manageable. The interior decor is tasteful and expresses old Santa Fe. Lastly, the kitchen is among the best equiped of any home which we have rented.
