Historic Uptown Beauty b\/t St Charles & Magazine Near FQ
About this house rental
Located in New Orleans, this attractive house for $457 per night is a great choice for your next break. This grand home was built in the late 1870's with some of New Orleans' finest in architectural design. Imagine yourself in the late 1800's living in a southern mansion with fine European chandeliers, iron work and floor to ceiling stained glass windows. This home has the finest of furnishings in close proximity to the St. Charles streetcar line that can take you from the Central Business District, French Quarter or to the the Uptown area that includes Audubon Park and Tulane and Loyola Universities. Come enjoy one of the greatest American cities that welcome tourists as if it were your home 'somewhere in time'. Given the architectural beauty of this home, the bedrooms are expansive with large doors and windows and tall ceilings. The king-size bedroom is adjoined with a large bathroom that boasts decorative ceramic tiles from the 1870's. The queen bedroom that hosts an old brick fireplace and shutters is adjoined by a beautiful, large modern bathroom with a whirlpool tub, and an open, walk-in shower. Ceramic tiles adorn the floor and walls. The third bedroom is large enough to accommodate two full-size beds and an armoire with plenty of room to spare. This bedroom in the 1870s was used as a sleeping quarter to catch the cross breezes in the summer time using nine, large windows. Location! Location! Location! This antebellum can be found between two historical and lively streets, Magazine and St. Charles Avenue that has all the charm, shops, eateries that New Orleans can claim. Enjoy the close proximity, the views, the people, and the history that it represents. Both off-street and on-street parking is available. Walk the neighborhoods and you'll find the best restaurants in New Orleans as voted on by the locals. Look for Shaya's (was #1 in the U.S.), La Petit Grocery, Theo's, Sukho Thai, Appoline, La Boulangerie (French Bakery-my favorite), Haiku Sushi, Superior Seafood, Surrey's and so many more. If you're looking for pubs, consider Ms. Mae's. It's been open for generations! Don't forget Tipitina's! Tipitina's is well-known and home to Professor Longhair. Besides good drinks, it has GREAT music!

The upstairs apartment was more than we imagined. It was comfortable, beautifully decorated, and spacious. The rooms were huge! The acoustics were great for recording some great music, especially the bathrooms! The neighborhood was walkable and had some great restaurants. It was really nice.

I have been coming to New Orleans JazzFest for 25 years and this was my absolute favorite home that we stayed in.
The home was charming and you felt as if you were back in the 1800's with columns and beautiful porch and balconies on the upper floor.
The inside was very spacious which made it perfect for our group of 6 but certainly could have had another 4 people comfortably.
The interior was restored beautifully with large bedrooms and bathrooms. The kitchen was updated and there was plenty of room in the dining area for a large group. There was also a nice family room in the front of the house.
We also took advantage of the wonderful balcony to sit and sip coffee in the morning while watching people walking their dogs and kids on the sidewalk.
I would highly recommend staying here! Beautiful neighborhood that felt safe to walk around to the restaurants and bars in the area.
The hosts were very responsive and made for a wonderful trip this year! Thank you!

As this was our first VRBO rental, we didn't really know what to expect. The property location was close to the streetcar line and was spacious, with kitchen, beds and baths as described.
However, there were shortcomings. 7 bath towels for 5 women for 4 nights was inadequate. No towel bars to hang up wet towels either. The walk-in shower's rain showerhead leaked horribly.
More importantly, the rental was located on the top floor of the property-not the main level! Stairs to the front door, then plenty more stairs spiraling up to the living area.
First floor renters knocking on the patio window while we were enjoying some fresh air was neither wanted nor desired either. Unfortunately, the owner requested windows and doors stay closed, so no available fresh air.
Overall a good experience, but some improvements are needed.

We stayed at the Napoleon House for a long weekend while attending wedding events nearby. It is a lovely old home. It was very clean and in a terrific location near several excellent restaurants. We were delighted to be able to park within a fenced, gated yard off street. The host was responsive and helpful. My only suggestion might be the addition of some armoirs, as is typical with houses of that era, the bedrooms do not have closets, although there is a very large closet in the bathroom. Thank you for having us! We enjoyed our stay.

We enjoyed the property although we had a pretty busy schedule while there. Enough modern conveniences but the quirks of a 19th century house with good bones and an old New Orleans feeling. We would stay again.

We could not have asked for a nicer place to stay. The location is within walking distance to some of my favorite restaurants on Magazine, Tipitinas, is down the street, and easy access to streetcars on St. Charles. Highly recommend this rental!

I was able to book this space four days prior to our arrival when my previously secured VRBO was cancelled due to lingering damage from a recent hurricane. I was thankful to find something on such short notice. I have been a client of VRBO and similar services for over eight years, and have some comments based on prior experiences.
1. It was not clear in the description that we would be occupying the upper floor of this home. This entailed climbing two flights of steps to get to our rental. This was not a problem for us since we were all healthy and able-bodied "senior citizens", but it could pose a problem for others not knowing this.
2. Another party occupied the first floor of the home. Again, this would have been helpful to know - that this is a home with two short-term rental spaces. We were a little uncomfortable until we were able to figure this out by approaching the tenants and gently inquiring as to who they might be. They occupied the "shared" front porch a great deal of the time we were there, limiting its use to us. And, honestly, because of the location of the house, we initially were not sure if it was just a party of folks who had wandered in the front gate to just sit and enjoy the porch!
3. The rental was "adequately" stocked with minimal kitchen dishes, cookware, utensils. It certainly met our needs, but again could be a problem if you are expecting more.
4. We were surprised that there were absolutely no complementary staples in the kitchen. In every other place I have stayed, there has always been at least a minimal supply of coffee, teabags, sugar, artificial sweeteners, etc. I have even had snacks and a bottle of wine left for a welcome! This rental had none of this for use. I brought my K-cups along hoping for that type of coffee maker, but arrived to find I would need to buy both filters and coffee for the coffee maker provided. Again, a little more information in the description - like the type of coffee maker available - would have been so helpful.
4. Along the same lines... Bring your own toiletries! Again, in past experience the rentals I have secured have always had a good supply of the basic shampoos and soaps. This rental had 1 sample size of shampoo and 2 sample size of bar soaps.
5. Since we have family in town, we had hoped they would be able to drop by for a visit. This was not allowed by the owner. Just be aware as we did not receive the rental agreement with all of the restrictions until after booking.

If you want to stay in an authentic historic antebellum estate then this is your destination. Beautiful home with large rooms and high ceilings. You'll feel like a king! Exquisitely furnished with immaculate hardwood floors throughout. Conveniently located by St Charles trolley line for easy access to downtown and Bourbon St. Also plenty of great restaraunts within walking distance. Definitely try Pascal's - great Italian with a southern twist. Also, this part of town is loaded with upscale, gorgeous homes with incredible architecture to check out. Overall, a great place to stay and a really nice owner who responds to questions very quickly. Would certainly rent again!!
