The location is beautiful, with a wonderful countryside outlook. I changed my room from one that was immediately above the entrance and therefore restaurant/bar/patio where smokers would congregate, to one overlooking the car park, which was much quieter and enjoyed the views. It was also a much nicer room! Esbe checked me in and was so helpful.
I ate in the restaurant, the Beef Wellington was very good, followed by Sticky Toffee Pudding and clotted cream, rather steeped in Toffee sauce, tho I was not complaining. I know the chef was the only one working in the kitchen this night and he did a stirling job of sending out superb food, piping hot and in good time.
The place has so much history and I enjoyed reading the book that had been put together explaining it all.
The hot water in the morning was not as hot as it could have been, although to be fair, I was probably one of the later guests to use the water.

Great size room for the money. Lovely location with great views over the Devon countryside.
Getting to the hotel was down a lot of country roads, that if you're not from Devon would be interesting to experience.

Reception staff excellent. Generous sized smart room and en suite. Very comfy bed.
Bath takes 30 minutes to fill to a normal level.
You still, after years, have the most appaulling condition access road/drive of any hotel i have ever stayed at. I stay about 30 hotel nights a year throughout the UK. If it gets much worse it will damage my car!

The Breakfast was excellent with both cold and hot choices. The size of the bedroom was good as was the bathroom/ The bed and pillows was comfortyable.
I foumd it difficult to walk up and dowm stairs as I am partially disabled. The WIfi was very poor and non existence in some parys of the hotel. The worst aspect was the smell in the bathroom which was very unpleasent.
