We booked the family caboose for the 6 of us. It was cozy. The bunk beds, especially the bottom bunks, are very low, not a lot of head space. Overall it was nice. We mainly traveled around the area and only came back to sleep, so it wasn't too bad otherwise we would've felt a little squeezed in ;) Loved the experience of sleeping in a caboose and will definitely be sharing the experience and encouraging everyone who loves unique experiences to stay there. Small but functional.

Love the location, and the old farmhouse. Unfortunately we had a very loud group over top of us in the farmhouse and they had dogs, cooking on the porch, very noisy. But loved the atomsphere and the beautiful scenary.

AMAZING. it was such a unique experience. They did a wonderful job with the interiors of the train cars. It was immaculate. Better than any high end chain hotel that I have stayed in. I recommend it to any and everyone.

Very unique property in the heart of PA Dutch Country. Great people and restaurant is also great eating in a Dining car. Very family friendly. I’ve wanted to stay here for over 40 years. Shop, eat and stay local.

Staying in a caboose is a fun idea ….but these are very run down, no hooks or towel bars, uneven floors, ok beds, and generally not maintained.

I am a frequent guest at the Red Caboose and am always satisfied with the rooms and service and food at the onsite Casey Jones Restaurant.
The only glitch was on my latest stay regarding access to the restaurant for 7:30AM opening.
Normally, access to the restaurant is via the main entry for the front desk and gift shop which normally opens at 7AM.
A portable sign on the outside deck points to that doorway for restaurant access.
However, the front desk door was closed and locked as of 730AM and I tried again at 745AM to see the same result...The restaurant access sign was still pointing to the main entrance at that time as well.
I discovered at that point by checking their website that the front desk weekday opening hours had changed from 7AM to 10AM so I figured that the restaurant hours had changed to 10 as well.
I needed to be on the road well before 10 so I pondered alternate breakfast options.
I went to turn my keys into a drop box at 8:25AM to find that the portable sign had been moved to another alternate doorway to allow restaurant entry before the main entrance opened so I was able to have breakfast, albeit an hour later than planned.
My suggestion would be to have the front desk associate inform guests upon check-in about the alternate entry to the restaurant prior to 10AM due to the modified Front desk entry hours.

My family has stayed here multiple times and love it. The only nitpick is the Wifi is not that great in the caboose we stayed in as it is further away from the main building.

Another enjoyable stay at The Red Caboose Motel .....was assigned to Caboose #49 which was very comfortable.
It was a cold night during my stay but the heat kept the inside of the caboose toasty warm.
A delicious pot roast dinner and a delicious bacon, egg and potato scramble for breakfast at the on-site Casey Jones Restaurant were additional highlights of the stay.
I have stayed at The Red Caboose a good number of times so far and am looking forward to my next visit.

It was lovely. This is our 4th time here. Customer Service was wonderful. We had an issue with the key and resolved in matters of 5 minutes.
Check in and check out was easy peasy
The sound of the trains were music to my son's ears.
I love my annual visit with P. P. X2 (Pennsylvania Pig). Im sad the 3 little piglets are gone.

Totally unique stay inside real caboose. Or course space is tight and cramped but it was work, tv worked good, shower was great, and overall we enjoyed it a lot.
Restaurant was excellent.

So much fun to sleep in a refurbished Caboose! What a local treasure! Bed was comfy and facilities were clean. Loved the little deck out back on our car. Coffee in the morning on the deck with the sound of a train whistle in the distance. We watched several trains cross the property. The petting zoo was fun and breakfast was delicious in the Casey Jones restaurant. The waitress was very friendly and attentive. Only wish they would fix the 'car shaker' as that was a very fond memory when we ate here years ago. Please fix the train 'car shaker'. It is legend!

I am a regular guest at The Red Caboose Motel, staying at least a few times per year since my first stay in 2016.
On my most recent stay, I was greeted upon check-in by front desk clerk Christine who also greeted me on my first stay in 2016 and many times since.
She is always enthusiastic and makes guests feel welcome.
My assigned caboose was #7 this stay which was roomy and comfortable.
I dined at the on-site Casey Jones Restaurant for dinner and breakfast and the food was tasty and service was good as well.
The owners have been remodeling the property over the past several years.....remodeling the barn, farmhouse, fresh paint and carpeting in the restaurant as well among other things.
The Red Caboose Motel is located near the Strasburg RR and the Railroad Museum of PA.
To sum up, I enjoy my stays at The Red Caboose and look forward to many future visits.

Our stay at the Red Caboose was awesome! We had two adults and two toddlers in a caboose with two double beds and it was perfect size. Bathroom was spacious and stocked with plenty of towels. Staff was attentive and called to check in to make sure that we all settled in okay. Displayed excellent hospitality when extra linens etc. were needed.
Conveniently located and beautiful scenery. Other guests staying were very friendly as well, it was clear everyone was having a great time. Brilliant idea of having garbage cans outside of each few caboose rooms, since you cannot open any windows to let any unwanted stench out. (Thank you, from a mom with endless diapers LOL) Rain also doesn't stop you from having a good time! There's something for everyone to do in the area but if you're looking for something low-key, between the petting zoo, horse and buggy, gift shop, watching the train go by, just the overall excitement of being in a caboose, and walking distance to the Toy Train Musuem (1 free adult ticket) - you do not even have to leave. Cannot wait to be back!

The Red Caboose Motel is a great place to stay! Where else can you sleep overnight in a caboose. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay...this was our second visit. It is close to the Pennsylvania Railroad Museum, the Model Train Museum and the large Choo Choo Museum, a model train layout that is really something. The motel has a dining car restaurant and nice gift shop. Also close by the Strasburg Railroad steam train that goes by right in front of the motel. Restaurants are nearby that serve Amish style food. This is a great area for train buffs!

My husband and i were here to relax and get away from the craziness of life. We love Lancaster. The Red Caboose was very nice and quaint. Will return.

We had an enjoyable stay here. The room and accommodations were larger than I thought, which was very nice. And it was so nice to see their petting zoo and the animals were so funny and cute. The grounds were well kept up very well.
The staff was very friendly, and I regretfully did not get to try out the restaurant.
For little kids and train enthusiasts it would be a magical place. I took teenagers who hate everything but I still hope they will remember it years later as that cool time mom took us to stay in a caboose, because I will remember it that way.
It’s also only minutes away from downtown Lancaster so you have everything at your fingertips target Walmart, outlet shopping and all your chain restaurants.

It was very nice. It only complaint maybe that I could think of is maybe a little trashcan in the bathroom But it was fun. I haven’t been there probably in 20 years. I took my son when he was younger because he loved trains.
