Enjoyed my stay here and would stay again. Staff were really helpful. Expected alot of noise with bar next door and live music but had a really good nights sleep. Stayed midweek break.

Hotel was very good overall, the room was small but had everything we needed. Shower room was immaculately clean & very modern. The bar downstairs was very expensive.

I loved the location. Room was great value for the money

Service was excellent can't fault it. Room was cleaned and the view was nice. Wish we had checked how many towels we had, but that's on us. Totally recommend for your next stay!

Rude woman at the desk ruined our experience. Mentioned multiple times we were over for an emergency family situation for one night and were 10 mins late checking out and charged us late check out.

One of the loudest hotels I’ve ever been to.

This property is right near the castle in Edinburgh. Great spot! But I booked this because when I contacted the hotel, they said they had an airport shuttle. No shuttle. Fortunately cabs are plentiful, but you’d be taking a chance if it was a rainy day. (Edinburgh was a stop for us on our way to visit a friend in the north. When we needed a taxi to the train, none were available because of the rain)

We stayed at the Grassmarket in 2016 and really enjoyed it, so we chose it again for our stay in Edinburgh. It’s in a great location as far as eating, shopping, and seeing the castle. The day clerk ( sorry I didn’t get his name) was so friendly and helpful. If you need a taxi, be sure to ask about the “magic button”! 😁 If we ever return, we will stay here again. My only issue was how close the bed was to the bathroom door, but after knocking into it a couple of times, we learned!

This is a great hotel right in the heart of Edinburgh Old Town, adjacent to the famed Victoria Street and the Royal Mile. The rooms are clean, spacious, and comfortable. The bathrooms are clean and the water pressure in the shower is great. There are numerous dining options around the hotel. There are lots of sightseeing opportunities in the area, including Edinburgh Castle, St. Giles Cathedral, and the John Knox House.

best location in Grassmarket area

This hotel and area was perfect for a few days. Right in the center of town with lots to do within a 5 min walk. If you do want some peace and quiet around the hotel, this is not the place for you. We were in really on 215 and didn’t have any prob with outside noise. An employee told me some of the rooms above the bar have some issues with noise late at night. The bar below is very fun and crowded till late at night, but I’m 48 and my dads 75 and we never had a problem. It was a younger crown at the bar tho - 25-35 mainly.

Hotel is in a great location, within an easy walk of the Royal Mile and lots of great shops and restaurants. Room felt very dusty (really aggravated our allergies). There was an air purifier in the room with a VERY dusty filter that we didn't use. Duvet covers and sheets didn't look super clean. Room temp was hard to regulate (windows didn't open at all). Loved having Biddy Mulligans and coffee shops nearby. Our stay was fine overall.

The room had a leak on the room ceiling, which made the room odor to be unhealthy. The hotel changed me to another room, which was better but outside the room the carpet was all humid and smelled really bad. The hotel provided me with a bottle of wine for the inconvenience. Other than that, the location is perfect, and the hotel staff was good.

Very centrally hotel

Extremely snug room, with almost no space other than the bed to be, but very friendly people and room was quiet despite being in the very heart of the festival district

In a repurposed older building that adds character to the block and community: That's where Grassmarket Hotel rests. It's a little quirky, immaculately clean, incredibly friendly service, you always feel safe, and beautifully presented. My room was very quiet all of the time. Great towels and internet service. Everyone who I encountered had a genuine smile, wanting to help you enjoy your stay. When I return my first choice of lodging is here.

Website says check in is at 2pm… it is NOT, it is 3pm. The front desk apologized and offered free breakfast when I wasn’t allowed to check in, which I didn’t even ask for but then they would not honor the free breakfast, even saying they were going to look into it the next day, they never did. Room was tiny which is standard in Europe, that’s fine, just not even room to open luggage. Housekeeping never came even though I was gone from 7am-8pm one day and I had the sign on the door, so I specifically asked for housekeeping the next day, and was gone 10am-4pm, and they never came. Also, website states bottled water was offered with the room, there was none in the room, and when I asked the front desk they said they were out and to drink the sink water.

The best wasn’t the most comfortable but the room was clean, quiet and had a great bathroom.

The hotel has a cool vibe. Rooms simple but comfortable but lumpy pillows. Wonderful, spacious shower with large towels and soap products. We thought it would be noisy at night due to its location but was not. Nice coffee and tea and chocolate treats.

Great location but it’s just a very basic room with a bed and a bathroom. VERY NOISY!!! Water in the shower kept getting either very hot or very cold during my shower.. no way to get a steady temperature. They gave me a room between the elevator and the stairs so every time a person came in and out, I heard it in my room. Not many amenities (I am being kind) and, the coffee machine in the lobby didn’t work. Wouldn’t stay there again.

A quaint older building right in the heart of Old Town. Tons of great restaurants nearby. Great bus transit. Older rooms, small but comfortable. Very European. Safe. Lift but still steps to some rooms. Great price for the area. Will definitely stay there again.

I chose this location because of it's proximity to Edinburgh Castle. Secondly, I chose because I wanted simplicity. I don't vacation for a hotel experience. All I want is a clean room and a bathroom. And this is exactly what this is. And in that respect, I got what I asked for. I had been traveling in the country for a week when I had arrived and they have a great laundry service. I paid 20GBP to have a bag of clothes laundered and it was worth it.
I hate to give a negative, but I have to on two issues. No one ever serviced my room, even when I put out the door tag. So I had to ask for extra coffee and towels each day. I had paid for full breakfast for my stay, and I was given a couple of different stories about what my breakfast entailed. At first I was told what I paid extra for wasn't off the menu and that it only covered the continental breakfast. I even showed a document that said I had full breakfast covered and the waitress at the adjoining restaurant, Biddy's, still said that meant only the buffet and I had already missed it. Frustrated, I ordered off the menu anyway and someone finally came back and told me what I ordered was covered. So, that needs to be clarified with all the staff. I didn't pay 10GBP for croissants and cold cuts. The next morning we almost went through the same thing until a gentleman behind the bar agreed that I could order off the menu. So, yes, it's frustrating that all parties involved didn't have the same story.

Very convenient location but the tiles in the grout between the tiles in the shower was quite moldy and the walls in the bedroom were scuffed up (looked quite tired and like it needed a coat of paint). Overall was not a bad experience but don't think we would go back.

Your site says hotel has lift. But it was not to all floors. My room was 3rd fl in part that has NO lift. Hotel staff could not change my room to part of hotel with lift access. I had to climb many flights of stairs after getting off lift on 1st floor. Your information is not correct. Staff said he was not authorized to change ... what rubbish.

Probably the best location for its centrality to all the sights of Edinburgh. Most tourist venues are easily walkable from this hotel. The area directly around the hotel are full of excellent and historic pubs. The room is small, but if you came to Edinburgh for the hotel room, you are doing Edinburgh incorrectly...lol. The room is comfortable and clean, and the staff is great. Awesome place to stay.

This was a nice hotel in a great location. They’ve done some trendy marketing which is nice, maps on the walls, etc. But the front desk lady almost double charged us and did not appear to make any effort to make it right. We had paid already through hotels.com but she insisted it was pay upon arrival. She was rude, kept saying “you can’t check in until you pay” to me in front of other guests. Finally we found our credit card statement online and showed her we had paid. She made a two minute phone call and said yes everything is paid. Never apologized, barely looked at us. We traveled for 16 days and stayed in various cities and hotels and she was the rudest person we met on our entire trip. It’s a great hotel, too bad it was tainted by how we were treated. There’s too many other great places. No one should put up with that. Good news, we spent the next four nights at the Brewdog and it was heavenly! ❤️❤️❤️

Room was mot as clean as it could have been. Had to go ask for some amenities like tp, towels. Management thought my room was empty and entered with passkey at midnight.

The hotel has a weird form, and theres only one elevator to the first floor, the rest has to walk stairs. The room is small but clean and comfy.

Really great staff on front desk both morning and night. Helped us plan our drive and advised on local transport, were welcoming and funny. Great guys. Adjoining bar with live music was awesome, and nice selection of bars and restaurants right outside. Clean, comfortable room, great shower, nice touch with the treats in the room!
